I just watched his Salt Lake performances again. I was brought to tears again. He is amazing. I was wondering how his programs would have fared under the new system. I loved Gladiator with the knives. I thought to myself, well if anyone can do it...Alexei can.

Those programs not very well, but he would have adapted them to the new rules. He tried a comeback in 2007, you know?

I did not know that he tried to come back. Are there any videos on youtube? It seems that a skater like him would have been able to adapt to the new styles.

Yagudin will always be my favorite male skater. I miss him. *sniff* I was reminiscing today and watched his Exhibition routine from Oly's 2002. Perfection.

Thanks for posting this! It so great to see this performance in HD. He had such a masculine way of skating combined with great artistry, for me he's one of a kind because of that.

Yes! Masculine but also artistic. He was also very expressive too. Nowadays you can't find male skaters who have both of those qualities. It's usually either 1 or the other. I miss him... It was such a shame about his injury because he was too darn young to retire. I always thought if that injury never happened he would have kept on dominating and quite possibly won the next Olympics. Wish he would coach!

I wonder if figure skating was responsible for Yagudin's hip replacements, and if he could have no surgery, provided there was no skating in his life. I understood he had a genetic problem, whatever that was.

Yagudin is still flying!
His body is amazingly musical.

Even now Lyosha says the pain nearly don't let him practice. But he is happy, when he skates for people. He is always grateful, he keeps saying he loves his work.
Actually... Yagudin can't stop dancing and jumping, when he might have a rest. Even his daughter says: "I want my husband to be like you, daddy. You are such a cheerful clown!"

In extreme cases he goes to a mirror, makes faces - and he is happy again. Ready to work.

Averbukh's team is a team of champions. And they say this team is a family for them.

Yagudin is a TV-host. A really good one. He tries to play in films and at theatre...
He represented Russia's bid to host the 2019 Winter Student Games in Krasnoyarsk. And these games will take place in Krasnoyarsk.

Lyosha is able to look into eyes of all the people around...
"Lyosha can do everything!" - now everybody repeat these Tarasova's words...

Actually, this is true. He is playing on ice, he is kissing on ice - and he is flying.

here are some good videos:

2016: "WITHOUT SAFETY ROPE"

To say the truth, it was a weird TV-project. As for the numbers, many numbers were interesting. The participants spared no effort, the coaches were really good.
One of the participants told, that during the first month there even was no doctor on the ground, where they worked. This man decided to leave. Many participants were injured, some of them were replaced, some of them continued working. The media were already full with all these stories, when another participant quarreled with the judges, decided to leave too, and Yagudin came to replace him.

The coaches and the choreographers fell in love with Lyosha, they were saying: "This man is teachable in 15 seconds, perceives everything adequately", "he has brightened us with his positive thinking"...
The commentator or the judges happened to say strange things, but the participants really supported each other, took care of each other. It was nice to see the universal love.
Channel One was going to repeat this project, but it seems we can hope they won't do it. It is strange, that such problems with organizing the project are possible on this TV-channel. Enough.

Yagudin's partner is Anastasia Eremeyeva (she is a professional).

Lyosha's numbers:

:) with ribbons! (music: WOLAND THEME)
https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=EVIzh4y6YYc

in the air (music: SHNITKE)

acrobatics (THE NEW STYLE - LONG TALL SALLY - his first number)
https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=_tMun0mEN94
(Marchenko is a professional)

In the semi-final everyone had to repeat one of the programs. Lyosha decided to work with a ribbon, but they changed the music. Yes, he nearly repeats his previous number, but everyone had also to work on a trampoline on the same day. (Yagudin didn't work on a trampoline before, since he joined the project late.)

his Olympic WINTER - with a ribbon

on a trampoline (THE GOALKEEPER by V.Vysotsky)

the final - with a stick (THE POLOVTSIAN DANCES)

As for ribbons, Viner-Usmanova said Yagudin should be added to the national team, now men compete too. Actually, she was speaking about his artistry, because he had mistakes with a ribbon.

Elena Berezhnaya was in this project from the beginning, and she won.

In 2016 Yagudin got married

Somewhere in Siberia.
Actually, he proposed to Tanya 9 years ago. Now he has two children... and Tanya finally agreed.
They insist they didn't need this wedding. "Nothing has changed!"
But Lyosha is tired of all of the questions, he needs harmony.
Now they have to answer new questions. (Yes, about Tanya's dress too.)
Lyosha and Tanya laugh! What else can they do?
As for the dress, Yagudin said: "because!"
Yet Lyosha is so obedient, that later he even told everything about the dress: Tanya had one day to go by plane to see Michel in Moscow (their second daughter), and Tanya took from Moscow the dress, which she had found there. The dress is blue, by the way.
It seems even on the video they try not to laugh...

I hope the subtitles will become better. A native English speaker started to help with the text. I am very grateful.

Lyosha, where is Yuna's portrait? The Olympics begin!
Our Minister of Sport can't pray alone.

By the link - the photo with Lyosha and Yuna Kim.
:) And the first comment under their photo is a comment with a photo of our Minister of Sport Vitaly Mutko (praying): "Lyosha, I am with you!"
https://twitter.com/yagudinofficial/status/462553567807541248

Our synchro swimmers are gorgeous!
Our athletes likely are the cleanest at these Olympics.
And Elena Isinbayeva is clean (to our knowledge). Elena is going to appeal to European Court of Human Rights. She wants to hear our anthem all these days long! And she wants to have more kids. :clapper:

Forward!

I like Plushy but I've always preferred Losha's skating. His "Man in the Iron Mask" remains the single greatest gold medal-winning men's free skate ever, bar none. Not a single downgraded element, or "watering down" to play it safe, the man went for broke. He deserved every single 6.0 awarded back then but IMO that entire row should have been nothing but perfect scores.

Nice to meet you.

Love this photo

I think the Minister is the most charming character in this story.
:) As for Yagudin... he has more funny photos. He can catch Yuna Kim. (Lyosha can do everything). I think he is the one who caught Yuna, because he really holds her
https://pbs.twimg.com/media/A1P8vyHCUAEIpYn.jpg (2012)

I have many reasons to respect Yagudin. As for his skating, I love "Winter" more than "MITIM", though your words are right. And I love "Racing" (his "hello" to Formula-1).
They speak about the pain, he nearly laughs... and... racing indeed!

Among his LP I love "Lawrence". This video is beautiful:

I like Evgeni on this video:
