Very bad day for Russian pairs  and bad idea to send 2 inconsistent couples( the new team Tarasova/Morozov who usually tank the LP and Gainetova/Bich who had some low results this season). Maybe Davankova/Deputat are still injured, otherwise it wasn't too wise not to send them instead of Gainetova/Bich. Even Vigalova/Zakroev would have been a better choice for the third spot, they had better results this season and are the most consistent russian pair. Fedorova/Miroshkin are young and the pressure got the best of them. It happens, a medal is still within reach, but only if others make mistakes. The performance of the night was Denny /Frazier's program  Shocked to see they actually won on PCS, the judging was spot on tonight on the pairs, no reputation points. Lovely comeback from the Chinese couple, I hope they won the title since Chinese pairs are in a slump currently.

Just wondering, why weren't Davankova and Deputat sent?
Hard to say... Games of russian federation, may be they knows?
PS: It`s a coincidence, I'm sure, that Igor Beach - ISU technical specialist

Yes, a disappointing night for the Russian pairs. I still really enjoyed the performance of T/M, I hope they can put in a good free skate, although there is no guarantee of that. F/M seemed a bit nervous, it took her an awful long time to get back into the routine after her fall. Both are still very close to the lead, 1st to 7th are covered by 5 marks so there is the possibility of a few moves. Didn't see G/B skate but they are a long way back, they gave a good performance in Russian nationals but not today.

My favourites were the Canadians P/M, their twist, throw and jumps weren't the highest but all were done clean, there is a real nice quality to their skating. I am surprised to see D/F leading on PCS, I found the routing to be a bit rushed going from element to element. I liked the Ukrainians a lot more than the judges, maybe they got low levels?

G/B did bomb their first JGP event but their score at their second event was similar to what the other Russian Junior pairs were getting during the series. They beat V/Z at Russian nationals and D/D were injured so there was no good reason not to send G/B to this event. Implying their selection was due to nepotism is pathetic. G/B went for some of the most ambitious side-by-side jumps we've seen in pairs (junior or senior) this season: 3Lz+2T and 3T, landing both. In comparison, F/M and V/Z have never attempted ANY sbs triples, ever.

That double twist from Fedorova/Miroshkin was just unbelievable. I don't remember seeing this kind of height ever.

Shame the rest of the program was rather :disapp:.

A bit of a mess overall. But well it's Junior Pairs.

Yu/Jin was definitely the standout performance. Very composed, very polished, very confident throughout. Really strong elements.

Presentation needs work, however.
