Disclaimer: The GOE values listed next to the elements are the ones, I'd award if I was a judge, to give you a general impression of how well it was executed. I try to describe each of the elements but there's not always time to be as detailed as I would like and those numbers can sometimes say a thousand words. So if you see positive GOE, it means an element was executed to a high standard (and yes, I am generally being very nitpicky ).

Any questions, comments, criticisms and discussion are very welcome.

1. Josefine TALJEGARD /SWE/
Once Upon a Time in the West (soundtrack) by Ennio Morricone

3toe/2toe(cheated over a quarter) [-1]
3flip [-3] – cheated over 1/2, weak landing
3salchow(cheated over 1/2)/2toe [-2] – not a lot of flow out
2axel [0] – good height but could use more flow out
scratch butterflies to flying camel(poor free leg extension) to catch to donut [0]
3toe [-2] – cheated over 1/2
straight line step sequence [1] – good character, decent flow
3lip [-3] – landed forwards on two feet
2axel [-2] – cheated over 1/2
sit to cannonball/change sit broken leg [0]
camel/jump to sit/change up var to catch [1] – quite good rotation speed

A fair amount of power in her skating, decent edges. She's shown quite a lot of character on the step sequence but other than that, has skated mainly from one jump into another.

She is just ridiculously overweight for a competitive athlete. This has been an issue for her ever since I remember but it's now got even worse. It isn't surprising at all that she can't manage to rotate her jumps. And more importantly, she's going to end up destroying her joints.

2. Jenni SAARINEN /FIN/
Pop Guiz and The Time Machine Montage by Danny Elfman
Fairytale by Harry Gregson-Williams and John Powell

2axel/3toe [0]
steps to 3flip [-3] – step out with hands down
flying sit cannonball to broken leg to pancake [0] – could use a little more speed
3lutz [-1] – turnout
3loop/2toe [0]
3salchow [1] – decent height and a soft landing
camel/sit var/up Y/change camel upward catch/sit/up [0] – rotation speed not bad
3toe/2toe/2loop [1] – all jumps secure, good flow throughout
straight line step sequence [-3] – fell at the start doing fast twizzles, laboured aftewards
2axel [1] – solid, short entry
sideways to layback to catch [1] – good rotation speed
finished a little behind the music

Very slow. It's actually quite impressive how she was able to rotate (and mostly land) those triple jumps with so much speed going in and short entries in most cases. Hopefully more power in her skating will come in time. She's only thirteen and very tiny.

Choreography featured quite a lot of arm movements throughout but she could have extended them better and shown more attack.

3. Alison Krystle PERTICHETO /PHI/
Sleeping Beauty by Pyotr Ilyich Tchaikovsky

3flutz(hand down)/2toe [-2]
3toe/2toe [1] – good height, decent flow out
camel/up Y/change sit cannonball to pancake [0]
2axel [0] – not the most secure landing
3salchow [0] - likewise
3toe/2toe/2toe [0]
some spirals into 2axel [1] – solid
sidways to layback to catch to biellmann [1] – good positions and rotation speed
straight line step sequence [1] – quite good flow
2flutz [-1]
flying camel coe(weak free leg extension) to donut to upward catch(again poor extension) [-1] – could use a little more speed

Quite good flow throughout and her movement was quite elegant but the choroegraphy was rather generic and she mainly skated through the music.

4. ZHAO Ziquan /CHN/
Black Swan (soundtrack) by Clint Mansell

3lutz(cheated over half a revolution)/3toe(cheated over a quarter) [-3]
3loop/2toe [0] – secure landings but not a lot of speed out
2axel/3toe(cheated over a quarter) [-1]
camel/up Y/change sit cannonball/up var [0]
2axel [1] – solid
3lip [-3] – cheated over 1/2, step out
3loop [0] – poor flow out
scratch butterflies to flying camel to upward catch to donut [0]
3salchow [-1] – cheated over a quarter
straight line step sequence [0] – busy upper body movement but edges not very strong
layback to sideways to layback catch to biellmann(full split) [1] – good positions

Stiff back, weak and unextended upper body movements. She was just going through the motions throughout, lacking projection and conviction in her movement. Basic skating isn't very strong either.

She looks emaciated, I wonder whether the lack of strength might be the reason for all those underrotations.

5. Angelina KUCHVALSKA /LAT/
Tango de los Exilados by Walter Taieb performed by Vanessa Mae

3salchow/2toe(weak landing, turnout)/1toe(eeked out) [-2]
3toe(cheater over a quarter, poor flow out)/2toe(toe-axeled slightly) [-2]
straight line step sequence [-1] – shallow edges, lacked flow
3salchow [-2] – weak landing, turnout, foot down quickly
3toe [0]
flying sit holding foot(spun on wrong edge for a moment) to forward bend [0]
2flutz/2loop(cheated, step out) [-3]
2axel [-2] – overrotated
2axel [0]
camel to upward twist/change up butt out/sit broken leg/up [-1] – quite slow
sideways to layback catch to biellmann [0] – not a lot of speed

Shallow and scratchy edges, poor speed and ice coverage. Very weak basic skating. Her movement wasn't sharp and staccato enough for a tango. Everything looked strained and laboured.

6. Sabrina SCHULZ /AUT/
Feeling Good performed by Escala

3lutz [-3] – bad fall, crashed into the boards and took her a while to get up
3toe/2toe/1loop [0] – a shame about the loop because first two jumps were quite well executed
3salchow [-3] – cheated over a quarter, overrotated
flying sit side twist to pancake [0]
2salchow/2toe [-1] – long, tentative entry
2axel/2toe [0]
camel to illusion/change up butt out/sit holding foot/up [0]
straight line step sequence [-3] – tripped and then fell towards the end
2toe [0]
2axel [0] – not a lot of speed out
flying camel coe/jump to sit/change up var to biellmann [0]

Really long entries into the jumps, skating around the rink. Basic choreography. She skated pretty much totally through the music.

7. Yasmin SIRAJ /USA/
Seven Years in Tibet (soundtrack) by John Williams

3lip [-1] – solid landing with good flow out but the jump was off an outside edge and she cheated over a quarter
3lutz/2toe [1] – secure landings, good flow between the two jumps
1salchow [-3] – popped on two feet
camel to catch coe/change camel to upward twist to donut [1] – good rotation speed
3toe into 2axel [1] – good height and solid landings on both jumps, good speed out
3lutz [1] – high and secure
camel/sit var/up/change sit/up Y [1] – decent flow throughout
straight line step sequence [1] – quite good flow
3toe [-2] – overrotated
2axel/2toe/2loop [1]
flying camel/sit pancake/jump to change up var [1] – good rotation speed

She was much more 'in the zone' tonight. Very impressive technical elements. High and solid jumps with good running edges coming out.

I have to take back what I said about her basic skating after the SP. She's shown quite deep and clean edges here and had decent speed and glide throughout.

Quite a lot of arm movements throughout but a stiff back. Choreography was very generic and she just stroked from one element into another.

8. Anna KNYCHENKOVA /UKR/
Overture from Don Juan by Felix Gray

turns to 3flip [0] – not a lot of speed out
3loop [0] – long set-up
turns to 3salchow/2toe [0] – not a lot of flow out
scratch butterflies to flying camel to upward catch [0]
3toe [-3] – fall, a shame because she could have landed it if her timing was a little sharper
2axel [1] – high and solid
sideways to layback to catch to biellmann [0] – not a lot of speed
2axel/2toe [0]
3toe/2toe [0]
straight line step sequence – slow [-1]
camel/sit/up Y/change sit holding foot to broken leg [1] – quite good rotation speed
finished a little behind the music

A solid jumper but she skated through the music and showed no expression whatsoever. Quite slow and heavy skating. Stiff, sluggish, lumbering movements. It all looked as if she was about to fall asleep any moment now.

9. GUO Xiaowen /CHN/
Grenada

3flutz(cheated over a quarter, landing a little skiddy)/2toe [-2]
3flip [-3] – cheated over a quarter, fall
3loop [-3] – underrotated over 1/2, running edge a little scratchy
layback to sideways to catch to biellmann [1] – decent rotation speed
3salchow/2toe [-2] – both jumps cheated over a quarter
2axel [-1] – underrotated over a quarter
straight line step sequence [0] – decent upper body movement but could use more speed and flow
3toe [-1] – weak landing, turnout
3salchow – underrotated over half a revolution, fall [-3]
flying camel coe upward twist to donut to upward catch [1] – good rotation speed
camel/up Y/change up var/sit pancake [0]

Good posture and lines but she skated through the music. I don't understand this choice of music at all. Her movements are quite soft and her flow isn't bad, something more classical could have worked well for her. But she had neither the timing, nor the attack and confidence to interpret a Flamenco piece with a strong driving beat. The choreography didn't have any Flamenco character either. What was her team thinking?

10. Ivett TOTH /HUN/
Barcelona by John Tesh

2axel [0]
3flip – fall [-3]
3salchow/2toe [0] – not a lot of flow out, done on the same spot as the flip
3toe/2toe(turnout, poor flow out) [-1]
camel to upward twist/change sit var/up var [0]
3salchow [-1] – cheated over a quarter
sideways to layback(lost balance and had to abort the spin early) [-1]
2axel/1toe [0]
straight line step sequence [0]
scratch butterflies to flying camel to coe to donut to upward catch [1] – good rotation speed
split jump to steps to 2toe [1]

She showed a lot of spunk and fire but really doesn't know how to move her arms. Her movement looked very messy throughout. Ice coverage was really lacking. But that probably has to do with her being very young and tiny and not having a lot of power in her skating yet.

11. PARK So Youn /KOR/
West Side Story by Leonard Bernstein

3lutz [1] – high and solid
2axel/3toe [0]
camel to upward twist to upward catch to coe [0] – could use a little more speed
3loop [0]
sideways to layback to catch to biellmann [1] – quite good rotation speed
3flip [-3] – cheated over a quarter, step out
camel/up Y/change sit cannonball to pancake [1] – quite good positions and rotation speed
1salchow [-3] – popped and landed on two feet
2axel/1toe [0] – landed the axel perfectly, soft and smooth landing, just lost the focus on the toe
3salchow/2toe [0]
circular step sequence [1] – good speed

Elegant movement, good speed and flow and plenty of expression throughout. Good height on the jumps as well. A shame about the silly mistakes towards the end. She just wasn't able to maintain her focus.

I thought that she was undermarked on the PCS again.

12. Brooklee HAN /AUS/
Ave Maria by Caccini

3loop [-1] – cheated over a quarter
3toe/2toe [0]
2axel [0]
3toe [1] – decent height and flow out
sideways to layback to catch to biellmann [1] – quite good rotation speed
3salchow [-2] – cheated over a quarter, weak landing, turnout
2axel/1toe [-1] – poor flow out of the axel and didn't have enough momentum for a double toe
flying camel/sit pancake/up Y [1]
circular step sequence [1] – strong upper body movement, quite sharp footowrk
3salchow(cheated over a quarter)/2toe/2toe(cheated over a quarter) [-3] – poor flow out of all jumps
camel to donut/change sit var/up butt out/sit pancake [1] – good positions, decent rotation speed

Lovely arm movements throughout. Her back was quite stiff, however. Basic skating is not bad but not the strongest, either. Some more speed and flow would help to elevate her higher up the rankings.

13. KIM Hae Jin /KOR/
Sleeping Beauty by Pyotr Ilyich Tchaikovsky

3lip/2toe [-1] – landings quite heavy
3flutz – underrotated over 1/2, fall [-3]
3salchow – underrotated over 1/2, fall [-3]
flying camel to upward catch to donut [1] – good rotation speed
sideways to layback to biellmann [1] – quite good flow and rotation speed
long entry into the lutz – didn't take off at all in the end
3flip(cheated over a quarter/2toe [-1]
2axel [0] – solid but a long and tentative entry
straight line step sequence [0]
3loop [-1] – cheated over a quarter, not a lot of flow out
camel to upward twist/up catch/change sit var to pancake [0]

Quite elegant and soft arm movements but she seemed quite tense and did not present her program as well as in the short. Her movement was a little messy at times. Her jumps had really long, stalked, tentative entries which disrupted the flow of the program.

She was a very promising Junior, landing triple-triple combinations a couple of years ago. But she seems to have massively grown since last season and that has surely affected her jumps. Along with a string of injuries she has been plagued by. Hopefully she can adjust to her new body and return to form next season.

14. Laurine LECAVALIER /FRA/
A Chorus Line
Victor - Victoria (soundtrack)

3toe [-1] – landing quite weak
3lutz [-1] – hand down
3loop [-1] – weak landing
straight line step sequence [-1] – really tense and tight movement (she received no value for this element, probably because of not utilising the whole surface – that's the first time I have seen this rule applied, this is a very strict technical panel)
flying camel to donut to upward catch [1] – good positions, decent rotation speed
2lip [-1]
3lutz/2toe [0] – good height but not a lot of flow out
2axel(slightly over the toe)/2toe [0] – not a lot of speed out
hop to camel to upward twist/up/change sit broken leg to side twist [0]
hops to 2axel [0] – not a lot of flow out
sideways to layback catch [2] – good position, very good rotation speed

She was really tense and her movements were quite tight and cautious. She has quite good charisma but didn't sell the program as well as in the SP.

15. Gabrielle DALEMAN /CAN/
Piano Trio Opus 90 Dumky by A. Dvorak

3toe/3toe(cheated, turnout) [-1] – good height
3flutz(shaky landing)/2toe [-2] – a lot of elevation again
3flip [-1] – turnout
2axel [1] – high and solid
sideways to layback catch to biellmann [1] – good positions and quite good rotation speed, although slowed down on the biellmann
3flutz [-2] – landing a little shaky
3salchow/2toe/2toe [1] – secure landings, good flow throughout
catchfoot spiral towards 2axel – solid, nicely extended landing [1]
camel/sit cannonball/change sit broken leg/up butt out [1] – quite good rotation speed
straight line step sequence [0]
scratch butterflies into flying camel coe to donut to upward catch [1] – good positions and rotation speed

Good speed and energy throughout but a big question mark over the choice of music. I think it was too sophisticated for her and there was a lot of detail in the music that she just wasn't responding to. She does skate with a lot of power though.

She gets extremely impressive height on her jumps but had trouble controlling the landings.

16. HONGO Rika /JPN/
Swan Lake by Pyotr Ilyich Tchaikovsky

3flutz [-1]
3flip(cheated over a quarter)/2toe/2toe(cheated over a quarter) [-2]
flying camel coe to upward twist to donut to upward catch [-1] – poor extensions, lack of speed
2axel/turn/3toe [-2]
flying sit cannonball/change camel/sit var/up catch [0] – a little slow
3loop [-2] – cheated over a quarter, foot down
3salchow [0]
3flip [-1] – cheated over a quarter
straight line step sequence [0]
3salchow into 2axel [1] – solid landings, decent flow out
camel to illusion/change sit forward tuck/up [1] – decent flow and rotation speed

Just like in the short program, she was just going through the motions, lacked expression and her arm movements weren't extended and finished properly.

I don't understand why her team is giving her classical music, when she isn't balletic at all.

She was in tears in the Kiss & Cry even before the marks came up. She must have been aware of the cheats.

17. Alaine CHARTRAND /CAN/
Compilation Misa Tango by Luis Bacalov

3lutz/half-loop/3salchow [0]
3lip [-1]
three-turns into 3loop [-2] – cheated over a quarter, weak landing
flying sit to pancake/change sit forward tuck [1] – very good rotation speed
flying camel to donut to upward catch(slow)/change up butt out/sit broken leg [0]
straight line step sequence [1] – quite good flow, skated to the music well
footwork to 2axel – overrotated [-2]
3lutz [-2] – over the toe, hands down
3toe into 2axel [0]
3salchow/2loop [0]
camel/sit/jump to sit/change up sideways to layback to catch [1] – good rotation speed

This program worked much better for her than the short. The music had a strong rhythm and a lot of accents and she reflected a lot of them with her movements. A very impressive display of jumping ability as well.

Posture and lines need work, however. Her arm movements weren't extended properly.

18. Nathalie WEINZIERL /GER/
Havana by Dave Grusin

3lutz – high and solid [1]
2axel/3toe(step out) [-2]
3lutz(step out)/2toe(didn't count because of her foot touching the ice) [-2]
flying sit cannonball to broken leg to pancake [0]
steps towards 2flip [0]
straight line step sequence [1] – quite good flow
3loop [1] – high, secure landing
3salchow/2toe/2toe [0]
3salchow [0]
layback to sideways to catch to biellmann [1] – good rotation speed until the biellmann
camel to upward catch/change sit var/up var [0]

Her movements are quite stiff and lines weren't very good. She skates with a fair degree of power but interpretation was lacking. Choreography was quite generic and the program didn't really have any Latin character.

19. Courtney HICKS /USA/
Red Violin performed by Ikuko Kawai

3flip/3toe(step out with hand down) [-2] – very good height
3salchow [-3] – landed forwards on two feet
3lutz/2toe(eeked out, weak landing) [-1]
flying camel/sit/jump to sit/change sit broken leg/up layback catch [0] – rotation speed decent but positions weren't extended well
scratch butterflies to flying camel to donut to upward catch [1] – good rotation speed
three-turns into 3loop into 2axel [1] – solid jumps with decent flow out
3lutz [-2] – step out
straight line step sequence [0] – horrid upper body movement
3flip [1] – high
2axel [0] – hardly any preparation
camel to catch/change sit cannonball/up [1] – good rotation speed
finished slightly behind the music

Heavy, unelegant movement, everything was unextended. Her movement didn't reflect the character of the music at all. Why give a classical piece to a skater whose basics are so weak?

20. Elena RADINOVA /RUS/
And Finally I Love You (soundtrack) by D. Malikov
Country of Deaf (soundtrack) by A. Aygi

3lutz(not a lot of flow out)/3toe(cheated over a quarter) [-1]
3lip [-1]
3lip/half-loop/3salchow [-1]
camel/up Y/change up butt out/sit forward tuck [0] – good extension but not a lot of speed
3lutz [1] – solid
2axel [0]
2axel [0]
3loop/2toe with arms above [1] – secure, good flow throughout
flying sit cannonball/change camel to upward catch coe/up – good rotation speed [1]
straight line step sequence [1] – light on her feet, quick footwork, timing off though
sidways to layback to biellmann(full split) [2] – very good positions and rotation speed

You can't fault her technical ability and she has quite good edges. But her posture and lines could have been better extended. There was a lot of arm flailing in that program and I don't understand how it was supposed to relate to the quite gentle GFB music.

21. Julia LIPNITSKAIA /RUS/
Nutcracker by Pyotr Ilyich Tchaikovsky

2axel/3toe/2toe [2] – high, good flow between the jumps and good speed out of all of them
2axel/3toe [1]
3lutz [1] - solid
3loop [1] – soft landing
flying camel to donut coe to upward catch [2] – good positions and rotation speed
split spiral towards 3lip/2toe [-2] – could use some more flow out
spiral towards 3lip [-2] – strong outside edges on take off, not a lot of flow out
2salchow [0]
straight line step sequence [0]
layback to sideways to catch to biellmann(full split) [2] – good positions and rotation speed
camel to upward twist/sit broken leg/change sit leg over head/up Y(full split) [2] – good positions and rotation speed

Lipping aside, the elements were very strong. She had good flow and showed effort and attack throughout. But it was another program where the relation of the movement to the music was very questionable. "Nutcracker" calls for languid longato movements and her movement was quite sharp and staccato. And again there were random kicks and splits that seemed to serve no purpose. I can understand a kick to an accent in the music, or a spiral to a crescendo. But randomly lifting her legs up and down is just pointless.

22. MIYAHARA Satoko /JPN/
Adagio by Tomasino Albinoni
Romeo and Juliet by Nino Rota

3flutz/3toe(cheated over a quarter) [-1] – soft landings
3lip [-2] - cheated over a quarter
camel/jump to sit side twist/change sit/up Y [1] – rotated in both directions, decent positions and speed
3loop [0] – soft landing but cheated over a quarter
2axel [1]
layback to sideways to layback catch to biellmann [2] – very good rotation speed
straight line step sequence [2] – good flow, great use of the whole body
2axel/3toe(cheated over a quarter) [0] – soft landings
3flutz [-2] - cheated over a quarter
3salchow(cheated over a quarter)/2toe/2toe [-1]
flying sit to cannonball coe/forward tuck [1] – good speed and positions

Tiny jumps but the best program construction and presentation of the evening, by far. Good kneebend and edgework gave her good flow over the ice. She used her whole body throughout the program to interpret the music and her soft movements were very appropriate and reflected the character of the chosen pieces well. A great job by Lindgren and Dickson. Both this and her short were beautifully choreographed.

She should have won on the PCS.

23. Anna POGORILAYA /RUS/
Danse de Phryne from "Faust" by Charles Gounod

3lutz/3toe(heavy step out) [-2]
2axel/3toe(weak landing) [-1]
scratch butterflies to flying camel coe to donut to upward catch [0] – not a lot of speed
3lutz [1] – solid
2axel [1] – solid
3salchow [-1] – over the toe, hand almost touched
camel to illusion/change up butt out/sit var/up [1] – quite good rotation speed
3lip/2toe/2toe [-1]
3loop – step out [-2]
straight line step sequence [0] – could use more speed
sideways to layback catch(very fast!) to biellmann(a little slow) [1]

The program wasn't bad and the choreography reflected the character of the music quite well but she needs to push the expression more and show more conviction on her movements. She needs polishing. Posture and lines were a little messy and her movement a little awkward (like she's adjusting to her new body – which very well might be the case).

24. Samantha CESARIO /USA/
Black Swan (soundtrack) by Clint Mansell

3flutz [0] – high with a secure landing but slight change of edge on take-off
3loop [0] – high and solid, good flow out but cheated over a quarter
3flip/2toe [1] – high, soft landing with good speed out
flying sit cannonball to broken leg to pancake [0]
3salchow [0] – good height and secure landing but cheated over a quarter
3flip [1] – high, strong landing
layback to sideways to layback catch to biellmann [1] – quite good positions and rotation speed
3loop(cheated over a quarter)/2toe/2loop(cheated over a quarter) [-2]
straight line step sequence [1] – great upper body movement, detailed footwork
lovely coe spread eagle
2axel into 2axel(cheated over a quarter) [0]
camel to illusion/change sit/camel upward catch/up Y [0]

The program was a little open and could have used some more transitions but she had good flow throughout and her movement was neat and well composed from start to finish. Very elegant, beautiful arm movements, lovely lines. Each jump landing was accentuated with strong extension of the arms and the free leg. A really stunning performance.

She has only herself to blame for the underrotations on her jumps and she doesn't have a triple-triple combination in her arsenal so her TES was rightfully much lower than that of the Russian girls. But she should have easily beaten them on the PCS, by a large margin as well. It's frustrating to see the judges not being able to mark the two seperately. I think split judging panels should definitely be introduced by the ISU.

It's surprising to see her struggle with underrotations because her jumps are really high and solid. She must be either a little slow with the timing on the take-off, starting rotation too late, or opening the jumps too early. Usually the skaters who struggle with cheats are the ones who can't get enough elevation but that's definitely not Cesario's problem.

Cesario deserved the bronze on PCS. It's 2008 Worlds all over again.

Also major kudos to the Canadian and Korean ladies.

I agree on all points. Especially with regards to Cesario. There really should have been a huge gap on the PCS between her and Pogorilaya whose movement were very messy and unrefined in comparison to Samantha's.
