I actually think Murakami was overscored. Her jumps are absolutely terrible and should get no GOE points at all, yet are getting really high GEO comparable to Kim and Kostner on some jumps, what a joke. When I see her jumps I momentarily think I am watching Caroline Zhang. Maybe her PCS could have been a bit higher, but she was more than overcompensated for the generous TES she received.

Carolina would NEVER get the kind of over-scores she gets if fellow Italian Cinquanta wasn't chief of the ISU. Been happening for years. There, I said it.

Yes that's definitely the reason. Nothing to do with the exceptional quality of everything she does (provided she doesn't fall on her butt :p).

Ockham's Razor is calling.

It's just unbelievable. Not only was it two-footed, it was also very noticeably cheated (under 1/4). GG judges. :rolleye:

It is very easy to comprehend. Kostner had the best skating skills by far, the best choreography by far, the best transitions by far, the program was presented beautifully and that fall aside absolutely everything else was of exceptional quality.

There is a part of me that agrees with this but I guess I think that a fall should be penalized more than it currently is. Also, Caro typically has easier jumps than others. I understand why she chooses them and b/c they are easier, it's easier to do them well but perhaps my argument is not with Caro but with the system - that does not penalize a fall enough and seems to equalize an "average" hard jump (lutz, flip and maybe loop) and a "good" easy jump (toe, sal and maybe loop). With that said, I do think that despite her higher scores, the fall really negatively impacted the entire program and should have "cost" her more.

I have a question.
I've seen some competitions with tough-for-toe-jump, slippery-for-everyone, or not-for-edge-jump versions of ice so far.
But somehow, today it seemed like traverse-while-you-spin kinda ice.

Is it an ice problem or just a row of coincidences?

To those to criticize Mao's 3A got +GOE. I think that's wrong, but not totally out of line in this event
Some judges gave Adelina +GOE for her UR and double footed combo.
Same with Gracie

You really think that Skate Canada has that much influence in the skating world and have all the judges and technical specialists in their back pochet? Come on now, this is ridiculous.

And how do you explain Carolina's placement?

Carolina must have some connection with Skate Canada.

Russia needs a miracle to keep their spots. The only reason they still technically have a chance is because the competition isn't over. It's too bad because Russian ladies was already going to be a bloodbath next season.

Was that really judged to be Carolina's Season's Best performance?

Caro didn't pop a jump, she fell, which is not as bad as popping a jump. And since it was on the second part of the combination some judges gave it -2. I don' agree though. A pop is a mandatory -3 in the SP

EXACTLY what is wrong with the judging. I'm not sure if I would say a popped jump is better than a fall but a fall should NOT be better than a pop.

Truthfully, Carolina definitely has had the advantage in her career of hailing from Italy and being able to go to Worlds year after year without having any tough competition to win a position at Worlds. Once at Worlds she was gifted many many times over the years due to politics and her obviously great potential. But still it took her ten years to figure things out. Plenty of good skaters from other countries will never have that opportunity. It was about time that Carolina won Worlds last year, and now I wish she had gone ahead and retired. You shouldn't ever be allowed to fall in this field and be held up over equally talented skaters. The stakes are too high.

I'm personally fed up with skaters around the World training in the U.S. and gaining an edge, while our equally good skaters get dissed right and left from the way the system is structured, from their own federation, from partisan politics and from ISU judges.

As far as Murakami, she deserves her placement.

3-3(fall), 3L, 2A beats two clean short programs with 3-3, 3F, 2A. That's absolutely unreal. I thought from last night and today's conservative marking in the earlier flights that the judges were cracking down on errors, regardless of whether or not you're a top skater, but apparently the cheques cleared just before the final flight. :sarcasm:

What don't you get? She made one mistake, but everything else was first rated. Her PCS alone should beat both of these girls. She was gaining points on all other elements. There are 7 of them, btw.

Looking at Yuna's program, I do think she was a bit underscored. I didn't think she was that tense at all. The spins weren't the best, but I thought she did a good job interpreting the music.

I'd say she should had had 70-71ish, even with the edge call.

It's different with free skate. In a short program you have to do all the required elements. If you don't you'll be penalized.

She got above 70 twice this season in the SP.

Getting off the ice, Yu-na told her coach that she almost missed the 3Lz. I guess that's why...

So it wasn't just me then. Yeah, her arm positions in the air looked angular, but I'm glad she didn't miss the jump!

Watching the program again, she didn't look like she was "phoning it in". She performed it a lot better than she did at NRW and Nationals. At least she held the ending position this time. :p

Quality > quantity.

What quantity? They all did 3 jumping passes, 4 jumps.

It's difficulty. The 'quality > quantity' argument doesn't even make any sense.

(I'm not saying this because I want to join the "Caro was overscored"-group, but because this 'argument' pops up regulary...)

All in all, men and ladies considered: I'm not liking this years worlds
