Wasn't Fabian about the same when younger? Maybe? Sometimes girls just have that extra fight and maturity when younger. They both just need more time. Curious though, are there any videos of him as a singles skater? Very cute, I would imagine...

Here is a photo of a group of local skaters taken at the Jet Centre, Coleraine in the mid-90's:

Included in this photo are some significant names in Ladies skating in Northern Ireland:

10x British Senior Ladies Champion, Jenna McCorkell (from Coleraine), is at the end of the front row wearing the red skirt.

2008 British Junior Ladies Champion, Karla Quinn (from Rasharkin), is in the front row wearing the reddish-pink skirt and a yellow hair ribbon.

Jenna's original coach, Margaret O'Neill (from Belfast), is in the back row weaing the blue sweat-shirt.

1974 (Jaca) World Professional Ladies Champion (and Jenna's current choreographer), Lorna Brown (from, er, Newcastle-upon-Tyne in England) is wearing the black ski suit (which she wishes she still had!)

Photo courtesy of Louise Rowan (who is also in the photo!)

(Sorry if this has already been posted!)

Mao Asada at the 2000 Novice Japanese Championships, which would have made her 10.

Throwback Tuesday: A time when your favorite skaters were cuter ...

It is Jenny Kirk’s birthday on Thursday, and to thoroughly embarrass her, for the past few days Dave has been posting links on the TSL Facebook page to videos of Jenny skating when she was a lot younger ( https://www.facebook.com/TheSkatingLesson ).

    13 year old Jenny
    http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=lcGFpcAQSkY

14 year old Jenny (Lion King)
    http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=ErVcFLNXb9Y

    16 year old Jenny (Pocahontas)
    http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=QoLZw99jmRk

Jenny is so cute and adorable in the first video!!! You just want to pick her up give her a big hug!!!

What I find so remarkable looking back is how good Jenny was so young! I had only ever seen her skating before when she was already at senior level. But, from looking at these, she was a VERY good novice and junior. I know I have been raving on about how good the current Russian teenagers are, but I think Jenny at the same age was as good as, if not better, than them.

And, although Jenny is embarrassed looking back on it, I love her costume in the Lion King routine! It really helps your enjoyment when you can see the lengths the skater goes to make their performance look just right. It’s like Mao Asada and her Mary Poppins exhibition from last season. It just shows their professionalism.

I just wish I had watched these videos before I watched the “This and That” video from a couple of weeks ago, as all I could think during these throwback videos was “Where did it all go wrong?!”

Thankfully, Jenny made up for that major fashion faux-pas a few days later by posting this photo of herself when she was going out for her first competition:

    https://fbcdn-sphotos-d-a.akamaihd.n...92232095_n.jpg

Jenny wrote in the description accompanying this photo “The number of fashion don'ts in this picture is overwhelming.” But, I totally disagree. She looks just how a wee girl of that age, at that time, SHOULD look. And she looks so happy!

Thank you for the memories! (Even though, for me, they are completely new! )

Michelle came in 8th, I think, at that 1992 competition. None of the skaters who finished ahead of her made it to the elite level. I wonder if any of them could have guessed at the time that they were skating with a future legend. By 1993, though, they could. http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=zxjA5J76QBk
