And, remind me again why USFS thought it wise to send Rippon and Mroz to this event? Thought spring internationals were 'developmental"....these two are about as far away from developmental as it gets. Hmmmmmm.......

Sure, glad to remind you again since it has been talked about since 4CC....I believe that Mroz W/D from 2 previous due to injury and Rippon need a few points to maintain a top 24 standing in world rankings. I salute USFS for having the foresight of getting as many skaters out in the GP next season as possible. The concept "Development" only works if the current skaters are supported.
Who should have gone in their place? I actually think they were good choices.
Is it better to send skaters out who are too young to even compete on the JGP like Vincent?

Additionally, it gives both a chance to get qualifying TES scores.
I believe Rippon already has qualifying TES he was set for 4CC.

Junior Ladies FS:
great score for Polina E.
And also great skating Karen Chen.

Good girls, real competitors at JGP for Russian girls, who just now skate at Nationals Elder Age. All the best young ladies next season eligible for JGP (except Sakhanovich).

Hmmm, Polina E. will be next season age eligible for Senior Championships. She shows level of Gracie, doesnt't she?

Karen Chen and Polina E. were always the US skaters to watch out for next season this two will be fighting fo the Top JGP placements

I can only think of 5 skaters only that are consistent enough for JGP
Polina Edmunds, Karen Chen, Maria Sotskova, Evgenia Medvedeva and Serafima Sakahnovich

Polina E. this season was a substitute but did not have JGP Event.

Ogoreltseva looks restored. Good skating both at Nationals Younger Age (2nd place, 19-23 Mar) and SP at Nationals Elder Age (today, 2nd in SP after Sotskova).

Mroz needs to train consistently...that seems to be the crux of the problem for him. I don't think he w/d due to injury...it was lack of preparation for those events.

I am not questioning sending someone like Vincent out to an event like this...this is exactly what he needs...some experience traveling, competing in new surroundings, skating programs in front of international panels....that is part of what the spring events have been about. I look at someone like Mroz, who has had ample opportunity for years to make good showings at internationals, and he has not done that. I am sure there are other skaters who could have been sent out rather than someone like Mroz, who in my eyes, just did not deserve it. Save the $$.

TES of past season is for past and this season only. For next season is needed TES of this season (or to make it at next season).
Adam has the TES for next season (even before it was lowered) from this season: 35.77 in the short program (Cup of China) and 75.22 in the LP (NHK)

she hit her all time career peak at Euros that's it, done.

I'm starting to like how your "predictions" turn out :) please keep writing skaters off, saying things like they're done and might as well retire. Valentina just had a very good LP here, a great comeback

Im talking about her overall career

Oh, no! You are again at it. Feeling better now, when you have written off another skater?
I think your lack of confidence is treatable, if you try some counselling...

Oh what a terrible FS for Valentina. She landed five triples, including two triple lutzes (one got a +1.17 GOE) and her TES was higher here than at Euros; got level 3 and 4 on her non-jump elements, and won the FS segment and the entire competition.

Yep, she's doomed. :sarcasm:

Don't worry, sky_fly20 seems to be writing off everyone. One can't take this poster seriously. The things sky_fly20 writes.... no comment!

Obviously Marchei's WHOLE SEASON has been a fluke: just three bad program out of 12, that's really inconsistency! :sarcasm:
However, congrats to Vale and congrats to Haruka for her good FS, I hope we'll have videos of them!

I reckon by JGP, Karen Chen will be a bigger force than Polina E.

Doubt it, Polina's been outscoring Karen by a lot for the majority of this season. Her URs seem to be getting better while Karen's appear to be getting worse. Also, Karen is like half the size of Polina so puberty monster could still do her in, where she's already struggling with her jumps now when she's so tiny, I wouldn't be surprised if she has a tough time of it, at least for awhile, once she starts growing. Polina is probably mostly done growing in terms of height, and filling out might help her jumps get stronger anyways just where she's super thin now. Polina seems heavy edge to Karen right now, by a long shot, and I expect it will stay that way come JGP. If Radionova and Pogorilaya compete on JGP again, I think Edmunds can contend with them, and if they go to seniors, Polina really could be the dominant lady on the JGP or at least one of them, but I'm not so sure about Karen for now. Hopefully Tammy will help clean up some of her jumps. Polina's score in the FS here is really good, even PCS, her numbers are in the 6s which is great for a debutante and especially given she's still only 14.

Karen's PCS were in 6s as well. The novices completely lack a "choreography" component, so that's why she only got 39+ for PCS.

She also didn't UR anything in the FS.

I have to say I agree with you, after seeing the results of today's competition. Glad to see Rippon win the FS and I think you are right on the money that Brandon lacked preparation, too bad.

I remember at Nationals, Scott noted that Brandon always improvises his FS depending on how he executes his elements. I think that's a terrible idea because then you never gain muscle memory as we saw here.

Adam won...but no triple axels in his LP :-( Not really worthy of a Sr Men's LP on the international stage. JMO....

Good thing you are not in charge of assigning "worth" on things. :sarcasm: It seems that the judges disagreed with your value assessment. :rolleye:
It was on the boards that Adam was just off an injury. If he was able to captivate the panel with limited jumps I think it must be pretty worthy.
Brandon and Adam should be commended for W/D from earlier assigned competitions and giving others a chance instead of going to them injured.:slink:
Both of them had injuries and Brandon exceeded expectations in the SP and Adam in the LP so best to them both next season. IMO any athlete that puts enough work in to get noticed by their fed & gets invited to represent their country is worthy.
