Beautiful or exciting blast from the past

Do you have a link to a skate that moved you, thrilled you, maybe is of the older or forgotten variety? Many wonderful skaters never had a long career yet had that one great performance. I thought we could link to skates on youtube many have never seen or forgot amongst the superstar skaters. Any offerings in the off season?

Roca & Sur skating to Neil Diamond's "If You Go Away." They are one of the most underrated ice dancers out there. They themselves were surprised to beat Usova & Zhulin with this program, which demonstrated choreographic maturity and brilliance. Their style is understated, yet full of dramatic moves. They really conveyed the regret and sadness of the song in an adult manner. They didn't ride on sex appeal which some skaters do.

Thank you for the links! Rudy and Michelle were really amazing. Dick was so euphoric every time, when Rudy landed in his jumps

I never remember how to quote two different posts, but thank you so much for Regoczy/Sallay, and thanks to BlackPack for Roca/Sur! Both of those ice dance couples are forever favorites of mine, both elegant and with great connection to their partners. I'd add Rahkamo and Kokko of Finland skating to La Strada:

They have a fall in this performance, but it's still so wonderful. Susanna especially is so expressive. She acts with both her face and her body.

Gorsha and Sur were to die for. No wonder they were faves of SOI producers for so long. These are the performances I meant. We know the MK super skates, the great Galindo 1996. Does anyone here adore Caryn Kadavy like me? What's your favorite skate of this lady who had a big pro career? It was hard to beat Witt or Thomas. 1997 she was bronze and it is a wonderful skate. Ten years later she was still lovelier as a pro....Kadavy fans post away!

Caryn's one world medal...she lost a split decision with Thomas for silver. Her 1995 Tosca was like watching the baby Baiul but even better. Caryn Fest is deserved, and like buttah!

I do love Kadavy. Such a smooth style. During a pro competition someone once did a split-screen display showing both Kadavy and Baiul skating routines to the Meditation from Massenet's opera Thais. To my eye, Baiul's was overly fussy, with a lot of excess arm movements and posturing, while Cadavy's approach had simplicity, lyricism, and flow. But whichever of these skaters one prefers, it's plain that Cadavy managed to hold her own with the skating phenomenon of the day, the Olympic gold medalist. She had a definite "voice," a strong personality on the ice that was instantly recognizable.

Just wanted to say this is a great thread! Exposed me to so many performances I've never seen before.

There was so much attention in 1992 of Yamaguchi vs. Ito, but Chen Lu's performance in the LP blew me away: https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=c19Hk1g0qrE

It is so amazing how mature she was at age 15. And how awesome was it that she backloaded that program with all those awesome triples while staying true to the music? So cool.

Oh, Annenko and Sretenski! My friend used to call her "the goddess." Pro skating gave them a second career, thank goodness, because they were part of such a crowded field of ice dancers in Russia. They were so delicate and elegant.

is where R&K skated La Strada perfectly. There have been many skaters with La Strada programs, but I don't think anyone has captured the music and told a story as faithfully as R&K had. Even if the level of difficulty and skating skills were not considered as advanced as the Russians, R&K's choreography (by the Finnish ballet director) always interpreted the music brilliantly and relevantly. Their Finnstep is of course next year's OD theme. Just awesome. Their programs were like film on ice, making you watch a story unfold with great characters to relate to. http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=7m0xMDwr9HU

Thanks so much, BlackPack. And thanks for the info about R/K's choreography. Yes, they were a breath of fresh air in skating.
