I don't know, I don't think Max will ever become artistic skater, and they should focus on his strengths which are jumps. Rather than that I see taking off one quad which lowers his scores even more. His PCS stays the same :shrug:

Rather than focusing on adding another quad which is playing up to his strengths they are going to 1 quad FS..... hopefully it's just because of early competition in the season

This is not critic, I am just wondering what are your thoughts on Max direction they took?

Does Max have a lip?

I looked at his layout from WTT and he has 2 2A's and no flip.
And he didn't do a flip in the FS at Collegiates either.

I though that his last three jumping passes were nicely choreographed to the music = https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=mca2DtzJ-30#t=3m50s. You have Max doing a 3Z-1L-3S then he goes into a 2A and then the third jump.

My overall assessment is that I feel like a lot of the "artistic effort" is in the upper body. It's like he's trying to be ballet dancer above the waist and power skater below it, so it creates a bit of a disconnect in the overall presentation.

I think he's had a couple of ! calls on his flip in the past, but he's definitely had it in there - it was the third jump in his Gladiator FS last season. I still hope/think that the 2As are placeholders.

I'm not a fan of a couple of the choreographic revisions that have been made. But I do like the new end positions - I think that works a lot better. I think perhaps he's still having a little difficulty with the constant movement, so it's a building game. I'm still looking forward to this season for him and I still think it will be special.

If Max really improves his presentation in competition and gets awarded for it, US Nationals could get really exciting to watch between him, Jason, Josh, and Adam. We'll see how well Jason does with the quad, though.

Thanks to all who are updating information about the skaters. I've been way out of touch during the off season and am enjoying all the video and comments! I am really excited about Max's new programs and the progress he is trying to make on the artistic side. I just love his attitude and work ethic, and will be rooting for him to do well this season. Hopefully his PCS will improve across the season as is often the case with skaters who show improvement (i.e. they are not initially rewarded, but it catches up eventually). Go Max!

Max also broke his social media silence by putting the picture on his instagram, too.

The Team USA people asked us to guess, but it was so easy, especially when they tagged US Figure Skating. Only one male US skater with a body like that! :laugh:

One of the reasons why it's extra cool

that Team USA chose him as one of its models, I'd say. Max is a good example that world-class athletes come in all shapes and sizes

If you haven't checked the protocol yet, you are correct :yes: that Max got positive GOE on his quad combo.

BTW, the DailyMotion channel for Nebelhorn has archived all the individual programs, so it should have the Andrew Dodds SP video.

Anyway, I echo your WOO for Max :yay:.

He got +GOE on all the jumps (one crazy judge gave him -1 for the 3Lz, huh?). It was so great!!!!!! :love:

(And I saw Andrew's lovely lovely skate too!)
