    Cross-posting from the Endorsements thread in The Edge:

    Max Aaron's new sponsor = Liberty Mutual Insurance

    Congratulations to MaxTAstic!

    He is the only figure skater among the thirteen newly-announced Team Liberty Mutual athletes whom the company will support for the 2014 Olympic and Paralympic Winter Games in Sochi, Russia.
    Team Liberty Mutual will assist the insurer in their new marketing campaign, which celebrates human persistence, highlights what is possible with the support of others, and showcases the determination in all who face a setback to come back and “Rise.”

    Exciting day all around for the Aaron family today:

    Maddie Aaron/Max Settlage placed third in the pairs SP at JGP Minsk. Their score: 49.03 (not even six points below first place, and not even three points below second place).

    Good luck to Maddie and Max S. in the FS tomorrow.

    Nice to see a skater other than Ashley, Gracie, Meryl/Charlie, or Evan obtain a sponsorship (for a change).

    Cool photo from the USOC media summit shows Max Aaron live onstage with Team USA singles skaters for a press conference -- with a huge image of his West Side Story FS on the video wall behind them. [I hope Max is aware that the image is visible there -- a larger-than-life moment for him. ]

    After the conclusion of the presser, Max looks as if he is having a good time speaking more informally to some media.
    And this photo offers a better view of what seem to be USOC team jackets that the skaters are wearing.

    Hilarious about the shoes. Max has these random single high-end fashion purchases that get so much "air" time and attention. Like his "first suit" from last season. Cracks me up. Adorable.

    Out of the 100+ athletes at the Team USA media summit, the subject of the USOC's day-in-the-life story is none other than Max Aaron.

    Promoting His Sport To The Max
    By Amy Rosewater

    http://www.teamusa.org/Road-to-Sochi...ort-To-The-Max

    Full report on Max's very busy and enjoyable day at the USOC media summit.
    Look forward to seeing all the forthcoming coverage of Max that is based on his interviews and shoots yesterday.

    Fun facts:
    - He can squat 315 pounds.
    - He was a pretty serious drum player from the time he was in fifth grade until he was in eighth grade. Playing the drums for one interview was a highlight of the day.

    Max's reaction to being interviewed by Michelle Kwan for Fox Sports 1:
    Later in the day, at about 5 p.m., Aaron was getting prepped for a TV interview with Fox Sports 1. What made this interview different from the rest is that the interviewer was none other than Michelle Kwan. Although Aaron had met Kwan, the nine-time U.S. champion and two-time Olympic medalist, in brief meetings before, he had never had a sit down chat with the skating legend until this moment. ....
    Afterward, he [walked] out of the hotel room and said, “That was truly neat. I remember meeting her once at a Champions on Ice show and always admired her. But to sit down and share my passion for the sport with her … wow. I have to say that was really neat. I’m glad they recorded it because maybe I can show it to my mom.”
    Love the good son's sweet reference to his mother.

    ETA:

    Max Aaron's interview was the first topic that Michelle Kwan discussed (for a good two-and-a-half minutes ) in her Google+ Hangout (Oct 1). Sounds as if they had some good bonding moments. Lucky Max -- and lucky Michelle too.

    Additional details re the Aaron/Kwan interview are in this article:

    Cross-posting from a Skate America thread:

    @USFigure Skating tweeted quotes and paraphrased comments from Max Aaron's pre-Skate America media conference call today:

    "I am super pleased with how the International Classic went, even though I didn't skate perfect" - @MaxTAaron

    . @MaxTAaron says doubling his quad Sal reminds him how difficult the jump is. Eager to work hard on the element.
    [Comment from g411: It actually was his quad toe that he doubled at the Int'l Classic, so USFS mis-tweeted or (maybe MTA mis-spoke).]

    .@MaxTAaron admits that he is more inexperienced than most internationally, but is looking forward to getting his programs out there.

    @MaxTAaron "No backing down" from doing three quads in his free skate and two triple Axels in the second half.

    Skating first at @HiltonHHonors Skate America, @MaxTAaron wants to set the tone and end up in the second warmup group for the free skate.

    "I have watched my program 1,000 times, I think all of the views on YouTube are me." @MaxTAaron

    "Go big or go home. That's my approach." - @MaxTAaron

    @MaxTAaron just dropped the words "Lung capacity" and "lactic acid threshold"

    @MaxTAaron called @EvanLysacek an idol of his and that he can't wait to step out on to the ice with him. Dissapointed [sic] he wont be at #SA2013

    Hate to contradict Max, but he is wrong about his self-scrutiny being responsible for all the YouTube views. I have lost track of how many times I have watched his SLC programs ...

    I think IceNetwork usually posts audio of the media calls (in entirety) eventually. If/when Max's audio is available, I will try to add the link to this post.

    ETA, full audio of Max's teleconference in advance of Skate America:

    Max also said they changed the beginning of the SP and changed most of the step sequences and some of the transitions into the jumps in the FS to make them more difficult. He said he was very excited to compete in his first Grand Prix. "It's just a dream come true." About the PCS, he said that he is looking for a big score this year. "I love the challenge going thru this process. It's based on the performance. That's what we have been training for this season - making sure we are getting every point we can get.

    Thx for your reporting, KKonas. Sounds like a lot of changes for Max, but seems that "going big" does not refer only to his jumps.

    Love the tweet from McCarvel. Thanks, karne.
    LOL, reminds me of a Hersh tweet regarding Max's pre-Worlds media call earlier this year. Hersh made note of Max's unusually gracious manners back then too -- because of the frequency with which he was heard to say, "Yes, ma'am," and "Yes, sir," as he politely replied to questions. I'm a sucker for good old-fashioned courtesy, so that one tweet from Hersh really opened my eyes and made me think to myself: "Not only did this Max Aaron guy pull off that exhilarating win at Nationals, but also he gets exceptional marks for personal decorum. I must start paying more attention to him."
    My compliments to Max -- and to his parents, who clearly brought him up right.

    ~~~~~~~~~~~~~~
    In other news ...
    Congratulations to Maddie Aaron and Max Settlage, who are first alternates for the JGP Final for pairs.
    At JGP Estonia, they attained personal bests for both their SP (49.06) and FS (92.73), and placed fourth overall with a total score of 141.79.
    Grassroots 2 Champions performed Hannah Montana's "Hoedown Throwdown" and Rascal Flatts' "Life is a Highway" to close out their 2013 Summer Camp at Shattuck-St. Mary's in Minnesota.
    Very nice to see Max, Hubbell/Donohue, Mroz, etc., giving inspiration to young skaters, as well as receiving inspiration from them in return.
