Amazing in this day and age that something like this could be hidden for all these months. But i guess if Miki hide herself away no one would have know she was pregnant. Still amazing. I do wonder with something this life changing why she now wants to come back for one more year. I would think she would call it a career.

Is it Morozov's child? Any documentation yet?

anyways, im worried how miki could get back into competitive form after having a baby. she must have had to take a long time off the ice for the safety of the baby. will she be able to regain her jumps so quick after such a long break from the ice...?
Nancy Kerrigan's doctor ok'd her skating (professionally) for awhile when she was pregnant.

swedish figure skater Magda Julin won a gold medal in the 1920 Olympics while three months pregnant.

I would not be surprised to learn that one or more women who competed in singles skating in any of the pre-WWII Olympics were mothers, but I haven't done the research to determine whether that is or is not the case.
According to Wikipedia - Barbara Ann Roles (married names: Pursley, Williams), born April 6, 1941 in San Mateo, California) is an American former figure skater who currently works as a coach. She is the 1960 Olympic bronze medalist and the 1962 United States Champion.
She retired following the 1960 Olympic season and had a child (Shelley Pursley Boatright). She was asked to come out of retirement after the Sabena Flight 548 crashed and killed the entire 1961 US Figure Skating Team.[1] Roles complied and won the gold medal at the U.S. Figure Skating Championships in 1962 making her the first skater[citation needed] to win a gold medal in novice, junior and senior nationals. She was the only skater to accomplish this until Kimmie Meisner performed the same feat in 2007.
Later in 1962 she had a son (Ronald Dean Pursley Chorak) whose middle name she named after her mentor, Deane McMinn, who died in the 1961 plane crash. After missing the 1963 season, she again came out of retirement in an attempt to qualify for the 1964 Winter Olympics, but only placed 5th at the national championships and failed to make the team.[2]
She later took up coaching; her pupils have included Lisa-Marie Allen, Wendy Burge, Nicole Bobek, Brian Pockar, Vikki DeVries, and Geoffry Varner. She is also the step mother and former coach of U.S. skater Scott Williams.

Yes, I thought about Barbara Roles as someone who competed at the Olympics and who also competed after giving birth, but not in that order.

She's also a technical specialist these days.

Going further off topic, other ladies who have won the US novice, junior, and senior titles include Joan Tozzer, Gretchen Merrill, Tenley Albright, and Carol Heiss. So Roles wasn't the first to do so -- she was the last, until Meissner repeated the feat.

I take my eyes off this place for a minute and the skating world turns sideways. Best wishes to Miki and her new little one! I hope that both of them stay happy and healthy, and that Miki has plenty of emotional support from family and other loved ones as she starts her family.

As far as skating parents, I think Irina Rodnina took a year off to give birth in 1979, which is when (and possibly why) Tai and Randy won the world Championship that year in pairs. She came back in 1980 to win the OGM with her partner and fellow parent, Zaitsev.

I am a huge fan of Miki, and eventhough I would like her to continue to compete, all I can say is that hopefully she's very happy with this new phase of her life. Congratulations to the new mommy and best wishes to the baby girl.

Of course, there's Gordeeva who came back to win OGM in '94 after giving birth to Daria in '92. Navka also became a mother before she was started to win medals. Of course, Rodnina is a famous example. I may be wrong, but I think it was the 1980 Olympics LP that Rodnina gave Zaitsev a look of death after he stumbled. It is highly amusing. Unfortunately, all these mothers were at the top of their game, while Miki is definitely not. I wish Miki and her daughter the best in any case.

As for the father of the child: Kalina mentioned that the tabloids speculated that Miki lived with Nanri. One thing we do know is that Miki had an intense, long-term relationship with Morozov. They were rumored to be engaged, but Miki's mother was against it. I also read that Miki split from Morozov around the time she became pregnant.

Is it really a surprise? Well maybe that's she's returning to competition but not the pregnancy part. It was long rumored that she was pregnant about when she split with Morozov, but I'm not sure about the time frame. Like it was kind of understood that she was sitting out the season because of it but with other excuses up front. Anyways, congratulations to her and wish her the best.

Congrats to Miki! That was a shocker - I just watched her Art on Ice performances, and the thought of her being a new mum never even passed my mind!

I don't remember such rumors... OTOH, there were rumors that Miki was dating (and eventually living with) Yasuharu Nanri.

Anyway, the point is moot now - according to Nikkan Sports Himawari's dad is a retired Japanese skater, and he and Miki plan to marry and officially announce their relationship when the time is right.

No, not Morozov. She did not reveal the father but the time frame does not match and Morozov obviously was really shocked and denied it on a telephone interview. Poor Morozov. It seems it hit him really hard...

I think Miki made a wonderful choice. Congratulations!

I am envisioning how beautiful that baby must be. Whoever the father is, just look at her mother.
