since Yuna's Chinese nickname is salty swan, why not skate to a swan of some sort

Like Kanako she's not very voidy in the face but I definitely see it in the way she delivers her program. That was a great performance; a lot clean triples under the spotlight! I don't think she's Sochi ready at this point but I think she'll definitely make her case by the time nationals come around.
I have never heard of Satoko before watching this program but I was very impressed. She knows how to use her arms to interpret music, which is refreshing to see for someone so young. She reminds me a bit of Akiko, who is another skater that I think interprets music very well. She is a bit unlucky to be from Japan because I think if she were from any other country (besides USA and Russia) she would be a lock for an Olympic spot.

My favorite Scheherazade--in fact, the only one I like--is Mao's short program in 2011. Now that was a different take on the old warhorse. I also liked her harem pants.

She still has the tendency to over rotate. Her problem is she may have a growth spurt this year and it may affect the rotation of her jumps. She does remind me of Akiko mixed with Yukina Ota.

    Very gifted musically, too.
Her debut SP from 2011 was actually one of my favourite ladies SPs from that season, choreographed masterfully by Tom Dickson. I loved her instantly.
I think it's unfortunate that her less-than-ideal jumps get so much attention when just about everything else which she does so wonderfully gets pretty much overlooked. I love her musicality, her self-aware movement and carriage, and her butter-like blades that do the steps and turns so effortlessly that they seem like they can go on forever.

Wow, I think you kind of nailed it. She has the elegance and softness of Ota, and the freedom and energy of Suzuki. All three are amazingly musical and wonderful dancers.

ETA watched Satoko's LP again and I'm already ready to proclaim it one of my favourite programs of the year The girl is just brilliant. Which 15-year-olds move like this?! Who is the choreographer, again?

The IN article mentioned that Davis and White aren't going to reveal their music until after Champs Camp. Why does the beginning of this thread say they're skating to Schehrezade for their FD? I'm assuming it's based on rumors?

It was reported in Doppio Axel, the well known Italian figure skating site. It may not be true. One can never make assumptions about US skaters until after Champs camp, because sometimes the federation will shoot down a program. Consequently, D&W did not do a waltz SD to Amelie in 2010-2011, doing waltzes from La Traviata and La Boheme instead, and did not do an FD to Nino Rota's La Strada, doing Die Fledermaus instead, in 2011-2012.

Because Doppio Axel is a generally reliable source, we left Scheherazade listed, but we won't really know until after Champs Camp in any case.

BTW, Vincent Zhou's IN bio was updated, and his SP is to the Barber of Seville. His choreographer is Justin Dillon.

    Scheherazade?????????????

    Awful news.

I didn't expect that at all after the last 2-3 seasons. I thought she'd come up with something special and unique.

    Very, very disappointing.

Ah, thank you for the reminder of the beautiful Yukina. A very uniquely elegant skater. Part of the tradition of incredible Ina Bauer's from Japanese ladies.

People seem very concerned about the free program. Let me just say this: I have seen it with my own eyes and it blew me away!
Lori and Caro know exactly what they are doing and they have come up with great stuff for this season. Just wait and see :-)
