Wow Carron/Jones beat all the Russian teams. Why are these junior champions having such a hard time transitioning to seniors?

Representing Russia in seniors when a team is not part of their annointed top 3 seniors is very, very difficult, obviously, because this happens all the time. It's clear that they have no push from their federation behind them.

It's very sad to see Stepanova & Bukin go the way of Natalia Mikhailova & Arkadi Sergeev (not to mention Sinitsina & Zhiganshin and Monko & Khaliavin). For those who don't remember them Mikhailova & Sergeev finished second at 2006 Junior Worlds, ahead of Davis & White and Capellini & Lanotte, and behind Virtue & Moir. You'd think a couple that skilled could have survived in Russia-not so.

That was a big performance from C/J, that must rank as definited French No.2's now, I thought they were going to be passed by P/C but it looks unlikely now. This performance and score should have them pushing for Top 5 in Euro. Last week at Golden Spin they were over 11 points behind Z/S but here they turned the tables. They done really well on GOE went from 37.8 to 47.4. Personlly techno Swan Lake is not for me, she was quite emotional on the podium.

Really impressed by the Slovakians, highest TES of the night, giving them 2nd in the free and 4th overall. I have become a big fan of Z/S, they have come leaps and bounds since they switched to Aze, they would have been lost and forgotten in Russia. I like this Pina routine but I think they were expecting a bit more, especially after they strong performance last week, still nice to see them on an international podium.

On the whole it was disappointing for the Russians couples, I would think they were expecting more than 3rd, 5th and 6th. S/Z got on the podum, just holding of the Slovaks, I like this programme (Norma). Was very impressed by S/B, there is real power to their skating, they look very commanding on the ice. A very disappointing skater from M/K, to only get 7th and to finish as the 3rd Russian couple. I though they might have a shot for the Russian 3rd spot in Sochi, it looks unlikely now. It's not easy being a Russian junior breaking into Seniors, they are just so many couples fighting a few places.

That's a lot of "movement" between the short and free dances. I actually think that alone could be thought of as "nice to see for a change" as it would argue for the possibility that placements were more a function of how the skaters actually delivered their programs, over the "placement politics" which seems so evident on the Grand Prix series.

It is a very bad timing to her injury. She looked so good at the beginning of the season, but if she skates like this now, there is not much chance that she will be ready in 10 days time for Russian nationals. Pity, I was wondering whether there will be some unexpected results (her getting a spot for Europeans by beating both Liza and Anna and finishing as the third eligible lady. Perhaps not her time now...).

who Artemyeva ? even if she was healthy her chance of making Euro Team is close to nil
she may have big jumps but she is 100% fold the headcase Sotnikova is

I know their height difference makes lifts awkward but I can't help myself, I love Stepanova/Bukin. :p They didn't skate good free dance at the Skate Canada and they didn't skate good short dance here. I hope they can skate better at the nationals because to me they are better than Riazanova/Tkachenko and Monko/Khaliavin.

How can you say that she had no chance? Of course she would have a chance. Did you think that Gosviani would make the team last year? You didn't and she managed to go to Europeans. I think Lipnitskaya and Sotnikova will be send to Europeans, but the third spot is quite open; Liza has not been skating well, so it will be to whoever delivers at the nationals. Anna probably has the biggest chance for the third spot, but if someone else delivered, I don't think they would try to give it to Anna anyway. They will send whoever skates well at the nationals. Last year has shown us that if that means sending someone who has no name over someone with a good name but the person didn't deliver, they will send the no name skater who did score higher.

This type of "movement" should happen more often, because this is in fact a sport and not a travesty marked through predefined protocols.
