Ouch 2 points for a senior men's short program. That must feel rough. Hopefully the ISU can see this as an opportunity to get a development program going in countries like India and Malaysia.

Good for Machida! I became a fan last season and I rooted for him to make the worlds team. I hope he will be more consistent this year and peak later in the season. I am not sure if I read somewhere about his music choices but I am very curious to know them and of course to see the programs. I hope I will not be disappointed because the last year ones were really great.

North Korea has figure skaters? At least at the Novice level?

Didn't know that.

I'd like to see a clip of him.

North Korea has figure skaters? At least at the Novice level?

Didn't know that.

North Korea has figure skating. Men, Ladies, Pairs. Only Dance we did not see at internationals for 10 years or so.
Not very high level, but much better than, for example, India. I believe, not worse than Taipei or Malaysia.

At Asian Figure Skating Trophy 2012 they had results:
1st at Basic Novice A Men (2A+2T, 2Lz+2T)
7th at Basic Novice A Ladies (2Lz+2T, 2A< fall)
5th and 10th at Junior Men (3F e fall, 3T+2T in SP, 4 different triples in FS).
3rd and 5th at Senior Men (3Lz+3T and so)
5th at Senior Ladies (3T+2T, 3Lo<<, no other triples)
They won some skaters of South Korea.

So we see they are really skaters.

They not very often skate at hi-level competitions like ISU Championships, but they sometimes take place in this level competitions, with hot high, but not last places (25th of 30 place of Men at Olympics-2010, for example).
At JGP Germany 2012 pair from North Korea was 10th (of 15).

At Senor Bs they sometimes have medals.

Thank you. I've been looking forward to watching these. :)

Machida is keeping last season's 'Firebird' LP.
http://www.nnn.co.jp/dainichi/rensai/skate/130725/20130725048.html

Excerpt of the article:
Last season while I was able to portray the image of a Firebird flapping its wings at the GP series events, it all came crumbling down at the Japanese Nats. Firebird is a god of resurrection and samsara. This season, I wish to reinvent this program and go with the theme of "resurrection".

Firebird symbolizes consecrated fire.
I talked things out with Phillip Mills and brushed it up to make the soaring image more vivid. I want to create a new Firebird. I intend to put out something worth seeing and befitting of an Olympic season.

Does anyone know when they will announce who is competing in the Asian Open Figure Skating Trophy 2014 in Taipei? Trying to decide whether or not to book a hotel and flight… thanks.
