Yes, Skater Boy, the Canadian ladies you mention had wonderful jumps when they could jump. Manley had the skate of her life in Calgary and Rochette attained a high level of excellence at last, in time for Vancouver, but Chouinard never had the satisfaction of an Olympic medal. I did notice, though, that when Josée skated well, she really flew!
Michelle's jumps weren't the biggest, but her skating was never blah to me. The way she put everything together, her smoothness and lightness, and her musicality made her electric for me. You may have a different take on it, but I feel that though she did not necessarily spring (especially compared to Slutskaya), she did float, both on the ice and in the air.
