Day Five is starting in about four hours time. Today is going to be a smaller day. There will be the Primary Ladies' Free Skating Event starting at 1:00pm with 29 competitors.

From then on until the end of the Championships, it will begin to get serious. Spots for Junior Worlds (Don't forget that our top 2 Australians are still Junior Eligible as well) and the World Championships are up for grabs and our Sochi representatives need to send a strong message to the skating world and the Olympic Judges that Australian skaters are not pushover skaters.

At 6:00pm, The Junior Men's Short Program will begin and the Junior Ladies' Free Skating Event begins at 7:00pm.

All times are Australian Eastern Standard Time (AEST).

Figure skaters first Aussies selected

"FIGURE SKATING: With just 65 days to go until the Olympic Winter Games in Sochi, the first athletes have today been officially selected to the Australian Team.

Figure skaters Brendan Kerry, Danielle O’Brien and Greg Merriman were welcomed to the Team by Chef de Mission Ian Chesterman at an event in Melbourne this morning.

“We are looking to send our biggest and best-credentialed team ever to Sochi, and it is really great to have the first of those athletes officially named today,” Chesterman said. “Figure skating is one of the most popular and highest rating sports at the Winter Olympics and we are proud to be fielding a team of vibrant young athletes who will do their country proud...”

Aust figure skating Olympic berth appeal

SYDNEY - The naming of Australia's women's Olympic figure skating team has been delayed after Sochi hopeful Chantelle Kerry took a dispute over the selection of fellow prospect Brooklee Han to the Court of Arbitration for Sport.

The Australian Olympic Committee was expected to announce all of its figure skating positions Wednesday, but will now only present men's competitor Brendan Kerry, Chantelle's brother, and ice dancing couple Danielle O'Brien and Greg Merriman as the first Australian athletes confirmed for the Sochi Games in February.

Chantelle Kerry claims that U.S.-born Han is ineligible for Sochi because she entered an event without the approval of the national federation. The CAS hearing is scheduled for next week.

Kerry was unsuccessful in another appeals tribunal appeal in August in which she argued Han should not be allowed to attend an Olympic qualifying event in Germany, where Han ultimately earned a spot for the Winter Olympics.

Han, who is based in Connecticut, was born and raised in the United States but can qualify for the Australian team through her father's nationality. She would be competing at her first Olympics.
