Nice back position and speed but to be nitpicking, she doesn't keep her free leg turned out and her foot points downwards.

I'm a huge fan of the Sims 3. In the game skating is a skill and once your Sims masters it, they can do some pretty neat spins. I just found this out last weekend when I was playing. They do a lovely layback, a leaning position, and finally a Pearl spin...and it's a Caroline Zhang circa 2007 level Pearl spin! I was so shocked and excited.

No discussion of classic laybacks is complete without a mention of Angela Nikodinov.

Youtube any of her performances. They all include an exquisite layback spin. She sometimes ended her programs with one, just because it had to pump the judges.

Made my day! Really nice positions, though Caroline still does it better.

i can't help but marvel at alissa's layback. nobody else does it like her. it is the highlight of each and every one of her programs and her choreographers always put it in the right place with the music. in every position she gains speed and not by intentionally pulling her arms or legs in, and i bet she could do whatever variation you ask of her.

in this combo spin she does a back beillmann http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=igTgLpC2orQ&t=2m15s
this is my favorite program of alissa's and the absolute best part of the program they could have put the layback...omg sooo beautiful http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=5hJk-vTcdjg&t=4m53s

For a great classic layback Alissa's shoulders should be parallel to the ice. In this spin one shoulder is dropped from the beginning as a prep for the bielmann I assume. I'm another Nikodenov fan

Post TO RECAP, most of these skaters have been listed:

For better "judging," I organized the list:

    11. Lucinda Ruh - http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=M0fvU4wnp34&t=1m29s

    Post-CoP (2005-present):

    10. Elena Radionova - http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=BnlHq18c0Fk&t=3m43s
    11. Sasha Cohen - http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=94TgJGnuypQ&t=2m38s

To be honest, I think many of the pre-CoP skaters listed beat the post-CoP skaters in terms of an aesthetically-pleasing classic layback.

But this thread isn't really about the classic layback, anyway.

I'll be posting a small rant on my blog either today or tomorrow about how the IJS is slowly phasing out the classic position layback spin. So many of the newer girls don't even bother trying to do it; they do that ugly side lean position and then go straight to some form of haircutter. I HATE it!

the only " real layback" actually in little girls is Karen Chen.. but judges only credit level 3.. the other girls do a "haircutter" an end in biellman.. no more classic layback for the new girls

You know who else had a lovely layback. Sandy Lenz. If you watch her performance from the 1980 Olympics in Lake Placid. Lovely free leg and arm positions. Really understood how to incorporate it into the music and create a "moment"

I love Alissa's Biellmann because she increases speed after getting into the Biellmann.
