RFAD and all, little Genia is so adorable, and very promising! He skates from his heart, very expressive, and some of the jumps were nice too before the second half when he ran out of gas. And he's nothing like Plushenko!! Love seeing these male skaters from Russia with their own style! And Alexei is not even 14 yet and so tiny still I don't worry about the content, he has time to get the big jumps.

Hino's TES is great but PCS still really low. If he could improve in that area he could be competitive on the senior level in Japan once Takahashi, Oda, and Kozuka retire which will likely be after this season. I wonder if he landed a quad, 74 is pretty high TES especially because he usually doesn't get much GOE on his spins or jumps other than 3a.

Nathan's video is up now as well. Very backloaded program again with no attempt at a 3axel. Those pants make him look all legs and like he is already growing out of them. This costume makes him look like he has grown an inch since yesterday. I like the program - needs some growth. I like the Porgy and Bess parts better than Chattanooga Choo choo.

Chen with the 2/6 layout of jumps! Lol. Two double axels lol in the whole first half!! This is just lol almost bonus abuse! How about some highlight distribution. This is not a bonus for highlight distribution! His is just not distribution at all! It should be banned!

Chen's score  the boy is a COP-genius (or Raphael is). And how cute was he in that blue shirt and those little red suspenders? Wow. I was worried about him after last season but it seems like he's back and just as strong. Not worried about the 3a for now if that's what was causing him injuries and pain last season, he can focus on that later once he's grown a bit. He doesn't even need it now anyways. 19 point victory and 36 points above the bronze medalist, holy cow! Plus I love that he can pull off the character driven programs as well as the classical ones and is trying both at such a young age, very ambitious, very impressive!

If the skater is trained enough and has the stamina to pull the jumps off in the second half then why not? IIRC, the 2010-2011 season when Miki Ando won just about everything she had a 2-5 layout and put up big TES numbers doing 5 or 6 triples and no 3f. If you can work the system, might as well.

There's no stamina involved here! I said the same thing with ando! If you are not really doing anything with the most energy in the first half what stamina? You are just in a holding pattern unitl 2:00.

A couple of high-lights for me on Nathan's skate. The 3loop at the last music change (I'm on My Way) is very effective. Then there are 4 triples in the space of about 30-45 seconds. Very impressive. Also, I love his back entrance in to his camel spin - fast, quick and sure - with the free leg pencil straight and stretched.

I mean I guess but everyone knows there's flaws with COP so might as well take advantage and style your program that way. Do you think Hino should have won? I get he did harder jumps but Nathan's PCS was 11 points higher so even if he did most of the jumps in the 1st half he still would have won anyways. And I thought the step sequence he did early in the program seemed pretty demanding. Ando I remember kind of twirled around and looked pretty for the first couple minutes of her program that season, Nathan did at least a little more here...those spins :yay:

I just don't even care about a Hino! sure his program had more balance and he tried quad and 3a but the total bonus abuse of Chen racked up the points! I just think chens program is awful trash! CoP is awful trash!

Chen is a quality skater and did quality jumps and spins - that's all I really care about. The program, the jump layout...meh. When someone is that good it's exciting to watch regardless of the program or jump layout. And actually I thought Hino had improved, he had some really nice jumps. Still needs to commit more to the movements but hopefully that will come in time. Israeli boy was good too!

Hino's skating is so robotic it's hard to watch his program all the way through. He landed most of his jumps, but some were just eked out.

I didn't much like the layout of Chen's program, or for that matter the music, but his elements were skillfully executed, even if they were horridly backloaded. He got +GOE on every single element! Nathan also could 'sell' the program a bit more, especially in the second half. He did make efforts to connect with the audience in the bare first half, but he was all business in the second half and the audience connection got lost.

The Israeli boy Daniel Samohin was born in Israel but has lived in the US for many years. He was 4th at 2013 US Novice Nationals. I guess he didn't see much hope of getting international assignments for the US, so he switched to Israel. Daniel and Nathan both train at altitude at Lake Arrowhead, so they had no trouble with the Mexico City altitude, unlike some of the other skaters.

Nathan Chen's step sequence did not deserve such crazy high GOE. Five +3s are so unwarranted.

Nam Nguyen's downgraded "triples" looked like doubles.
