Pretty good result for Shershak. Does she qualify for Nationals?

    Yes, she does.
She is third on results of Russian Cup Events, so high place is because she was at two last Events where skaters were not of so high level.

This season strongest skaters were at three first Events. There were Sotnikova once and Pogorilaya twice (for practice and as test skating, but of course with first places), Gosviani once, and good skaters Artemieva, Kajumova, Pervushkina, and known skaters Biryukova, Agafonova, Korobeynikova. Agafonova and Korobeynikova were not so good, Biryukova progresses from competition to competition - hope we will see "old good" Biryukova.

Not so good results for Shershak. TES at SP 24.37, at FS 49.45. Only 3T and 3S of triples, 3+2 combo in SP.
Before her illness or injury she had also 3Lo, not absolutely stable 3F and stable enough 3T+3T combo.
    Hope she restores.

Too many competitions. Having GPF in December, then Russian nationals in December, then Europeans in January, Olympics in February and Worlds in March, all within 4 months felt too much. They originally wondered whether they should skip the Europeans (Trankov mentioned in one interview that they consider not going to Europeans) and someone probably told them that it wouldn't be very clever (better to go to Olympics as European Champions) so they decided to skip the nationals. To be fair, they are the best from Russian pairs, so why shouldn't they? Most of top competitors skip their nationals. Savchenko-Szolkowy skipped theirs for a few years, Carolina Kostner too, Yu-Na Kim, some of the Chinese pairs...

**Volosozhar/Trankov and Fedorova/Miroshkin will not participate at Nationals.
Good job Volosozhar/Trankov and Fedorova/Miroshkin will not participate at Nationals. There is only 12 places at the Russian senior nationals for pairs and participants are chosen from 1. participating at GP event, 2. qualifying to JGPF and then 3. according to the results of their internal competitions Russian Cups. This year 6 pairs got GP event (Volosozhar/Trankov, Kavaguti/Smirnov, Bazarova/Larionov, Stolbova/Klimov, Antipova/Maisuradze and Martiushheva/Rogonov) and 5 pairs qualified to JGPF (Fedorova/Miroshkin, Vygalova/Zakroev, Gainetdinova/Bich, Tarasova/Morozov and Davankova/Deputat). If Kavaguti/Smirnov were not injured and Volosozhar/Trankov and Fedorova/Miroshkin didn't decide not participate at the Nationals, there would be no point holding the Russian cup competitions for pairs because only one pair would be qualifying based on those competitions. The spots for nationals would be already given (except of one spot) before the competitions have even begun!
