Mine is Kulik at the 1998 Olympics, particularly because he was able to peak and deliver his best ever performance there. His R&J from the previous season was even better choreographically but I don't know that he ever skated it clean.

Perhaps it was because of the emotion surrounding the skate, and the fact that I was in the arena and it was very real and evident, but the one that has stuck in my mind ever since is Tim G's 2005 Nationals SP - http://youtu.be/c0EjEssavls

Daisuke Takahashi's La Strada and Jeremy Abbott's Muse are some of the most recent ones that come to mind for me.

The first one that came to my mind was Browning's Casablanca, if I could only choose one favorite.

I could probably choose 100 that I love.

When I get a chance, I'll try to figure out some of my favorite IJS-era men's programs. But because I get to see so many more programs a year now, what with online streaming, I don't tend to rewatch the same programs as often as I used to when videotapes were precious, so they don't stick in my memory as well.

Exactly! Tarasova made the Olympic program easier than R&J and other previous programs for Kulik to be able to deliver, though the R&J program had really great transitions for its time.

With out a doubt - Kurt Browning's Casablanca! The character he played, the finesse and class he displayed, not to mention the technical expertise. IF ONLY he had had a good short program!

Well, if I limit it to one (admittedly so hard to do), it's Todd Eldredge's "First Knight" from 1996 Worlds (his performance of it at the 1998 Goodwill Games - in a different costume was also great).

I agree abt that program- it was beautifully choreographed, loaded with technical difficulty (everything except quad), and gorgeously delivered at just the right moment. One of the most thrilling Worlds performances ever!

My favorite men's programs?

Ilia Kulik's 1998 Olympic SP and Jeremy Abbott's Exogenesis FS

What was Ilia's short?? I remember the long to Rhapsody in Blue. I always wanted Ilia to stick around longer since he could have been the greatest of all time potentially had he developed a consistent quad and really polished his artistry. What talent, flair, and spark he had.

The great thing is, he did develop artistically, as a professional. He came along just in time to take part in the pro skating boom that then faded in the early 2000's. He kept his jumps and also grew in different artistic directions. One can see that he learned a lot, especially about footwork and presentation, from Kurt Browning and the choreographers of SOI. As with many other skaters, I came to like him better during his pro career. He's still got an impressive international career: he seems to be very much in demand in Japan, for instance.

I need to watch more of his pro programs!! Will go to youtube now. I hope that he and Katia are still happy and together. Even though he is younger than she and was very young when they married (which worried me a little), I can totally see why they would work. and I'm sure her peerless artistry has rubbed off on him!
