how stupid were the USFSA not sending Wang here ?
the field was weak she could have easily took silver even gold and qualify already to JGPF

Do anyone find it interesting that Rika got bronze with two fifth place placements in the segments? But ya for Da Bin Choi for pulling up from 11th to 4th place.

And congrats to Polina for her second victory, she's heading to the JGPF (and gets a bye to Nationals!). I'm thinking that some of the Midwestern gals might want to consider transferring to Pacific Coasts...(I'm talking to you, Carly Gold....)

Rika: It's weird if you started watching skating back in the old ordinals days, or factored placements, Where 5th + 5th never equalled 3 (bronze). COP allows all sorts of interesting results..

Carly Gold: I think registration for Regionals was back at beginning of this month, so wherever she registered is wherever she's going to compete. Unless the Gold family had some sort of foreshadowing about the move to Frank--or they just gambled--I'd be surprised if she changed clubs and registered out west instead of through the original club in upper great lakes.

Yup. It's gonna be tough for her to make the JGPF now, she has to compete against Proklova and Sotskova at her 2nd assignment, I can maybe see her beating Sotskova if she skates really well, but she's unlikely to beat Proklova, and 2 silvers doesn't always get you into the final, especially because her score from her 1st event was pretty low (for comparison, Sotskova's score when she won silver was almost 15 points higher, and Proklova's more than 15 points higher, which would come into effect with a tiebreaker for the same placements). Realistically, it's more likely she places 3rd and then there's a very good chance she doesn't qualify, especially if Sakhanovich can win in Estonia, which seems possible now that that field has opened up. 3 ladies are already in (Medvedeva, Edmunds, Chen), Proklova and Sotskova are likely to qualify ahead of Wang, and Sakhanovich with a 1 and 4 would qualify ahead of Wang with a 2 and 3, meaning Wang wouldn't make it. And then that's excluding spoilers who could medal and make qualification situations more difficult.

Didn't that happen to Jeremy Abbott at CoC a couple seasons ago? Or maybe he won with two 3rd places. I think that was it. But under COP, these sorts of things aren't that uncommon because it comes down to points.

Becky Bereswill won the 08-09 JGP final on a 4th in the short/2nd in the free.

What's happening to the older talented junior girls?? Starting with Heajin, then Mariah, and now Barbie also?!?! Puberty issues? Body change? Injuries?? I hope they all regain their former strength and reach their potentials...

Mariah struggles with her jumps sometimes so i don't think it's puberty issues. As for Barbie i've heard she looks taller so she might be trying to get used to her body changing.

Mariah and Barbie both run hot and cold, they have been like that for awhile. Both girls had one pretty good JGP event, and one pretty bad one. They have both filled out a bit since last season and might be a little taller, but no drastic changes for either girl have taken place and they both have pretty desirable body types for the sport, especially Bell who is petite and slender with long legs, I guess Long is a bit taller with wider hips but they've both shown they can still do all the triples. It's just a matter of consistency. In the past, those two have done better as the season has progressed. This summer they were hot-and-cold as well, some good skates, some bad ones. Even if they aren't at their best, I would think they are both likely to qualify out of sectionals just where Mariah can do a 3lz & 3f, and Barbie a 3lz & 3lo, with pretty decent consistency along with the easier triples like 3t and 3s, which is more than a lot of the other girls who will be competing at Mids can do. And further, although Barbie has never had great PCS, they will still be on the higher end for the Sectionals crowd and Mariah is capable of getting quite high PCS if she skates well. So, it's unfortunate they didn't have the best JGP showings and won't make the final, but I wouldn't start to panic yet. They have a couple months until sectionals.

I don't understand the marking. Alaine Chartrand did what looked like a perfect triple flip in the LP, and the judges marked it as underrotated and grade of execution -2s and -3s? I see there was an edge call, but does that merit a -3 deduction? Similarly, her second triple lutz had GOE marks of -3, but it looked fine. Can anyone think of an explanation?

If a jump takes off on a wrong edge and is also UR, it's going to get -GOE. It would have to be HUGE to get -1. That jump was pretty small, so -2 and -3 is to be expected.

The second triple lutz was double-footed, as were many of her jumps towards the end of the program. She was clearly tiring, which accounted for her fall on the final spin.
