Oomph. Feel so badly for the Russian team that had the fall coming out of that lift. They were fortunate that it did not occur a second earlier or she would have come down upside down squarely on her head. Good for them for getting right up and finishing. Pairs is scary.

A really lovely skate by C/C to take a well deserved lead, not so sure they can hang on, wasn't really impressed with the free at the previous JGP event. F/M skated well, Lena has tonnes of personality, I would have them as favourites to win, they scored big in their previous event. The Canadians impressed in 3rd. A bit disappointing from G/B, she was all over the place on the 2a and both fell coming out of the lift, it could have been a very nasty accident but luckily both seemed fine afterwards.

A field of 6 is a very poor turnout. Where is everyone else?

I suspect all the federations except Russia are running out of pairs that are both junior level and age-eligible. And quite a few countries have more novice level, youngish pairs that probably aren't quite up to JGP snuff yet. This year has an extra JGP competition with pairs, there used to be only four but now five competitions to fill out. For some reason, this competition only had 7 pairs scheduled (1 disappeared for some reason) but Tallin has 14 scheduled, so distribution is uneven on these last two comps.
