54 (close to their PB) with one fall (and a not-so-good execution of the StSq) is still good for E/P, it means that they can surely get close to 60!

They didn't lose that much on the fall, because it came after the dismount from the lift, so it didn't affect the level. Her stumble on the midline step sequence was actually more costly since it brought the level down to 1, costing more than 4 points.

No disrespect to the Parsons - congrats to them on their Short dance win. But, kind of surprising to see the strength of results for the US Dance teams this season. What happened to all of those strong Russian dance teams? Was the whole point solely to try to be in position for an outside shot at a Sochi 3rd spot, and now that it is past that point of opportunity, there is no incentive?

Once Navka/Kostomarov retired, Russia no longer had a lock on the World's top spot in ice dance, as the presumed heirs Domnina/Shabalin struggled due to his injured knees, and Khokhlova/Novikov faded and then split. North American teams V/M and D/W swept in to fill the void and have dominated since. No strong Russian team or teams have even made the World podium until Bobrova/Soloviev in 2013. IMO, the problem lies in coaching and and choreography; Russian teams often look fussy and old-fashioned, or try to be cutting-edge and instead border on bad taste.

It's not surprising that the same thing is happening at the lower levels.

To be fair, the Russian teams that dominated the junior ranks in previous years (Monko/Khavalin, Sinitsina / Ruslan Zhiganshin, Stepanova /Bukin) are all now seniors, along with the other medalists from JGP and Jr. Worlds last season (Aldridge/Eaton; Papadakis/Cizeron). So the junior Ice Dance field is wide open. All the American teams who have won competitions this season (including the Parsons, if the pattern holds) have all medaled in JGP last season, so the move up is not surprising.

NcNamara/Carpenter won gold this year, but did not medal last year in the JGP: they were 6th in France and 4th in Turkey. OTOH, Kosigina/Moroshkin won two silvers last year in the JGP but were 4th in Poland and lost the spot in CZE to P/V.

So far, after two years on the senior circuit, Monko/Khaliavin and Sinitsina / Zhiganshin haven't exactly had dazzling results.

Seems you haven't been paying attention to the junior results in the last few seasons. Russian ice dancers have won Junior Worlds three years in a row and Yanovskaya/Mozgov have a good chance at medaling this year.

S/Z have just one year behind them on the senior circuit. And actually, M/K too since they missed their international events in the 2011/12 season (mononucleosis).
Anyway, it's not like juniors from other countries have been storming the senior ranks lately.

It can't have helped Evdokimova & Bagin that they have perhaps the worst music choice of the year for a Quickstep SD - Hava Nagila paired with 16 Tons? Really????

I agree about Edwards & Pang-especially the Anything Goes part of their program works really well. It's too bad about the trip & the fall. Best wishes to them in the FD.

So it's no wonder the Parsons have a lead.

Russian Ice Dance results in this quad:

2011
JGPF: Five teams (last year of 8 pair roster); Russian sweeps podium (Monko/Khaliavin;Sinitsina / Zhiganshin; Stepanova/Bukin)
Jr. Worlds: Russia goes 1-2 (Monko/Khaliavin; Pushkash /Guerreiro)

2011-2012
JGPF: Russian teams sweep podium (Sinitsina / Zhiganshin; Stepanova/Bukin; Yanovskaia / Mozgov)
Jr. Worlds: Russia goes 1-2 (Sinitsina / Zhiganshin; Stepanova/Bukin)

2012-2013:
JGPF: Four Russian teams; Stepanova/Bukin wins
Jr. Worlds: Russia wins (Stepanova/Bukin)

The only team still left in juniors among those successful teams is Yanovskaia/Mozgov, who won a JGP earlier this season and will be in Estonia next and will likely get a JGPF berth. As for the other teams not making a blazing path in the Ice Dance world, that's not surprising given the amount of depth in Ice Dance right now. In Russia, B/S and I/K basically have the top two spots locked, leaving the rest to fight for one spot. I'd imagine that Aldridge/Eaton will be dealing with much of the same in the U.S.

The N. America record
2011:
JGPF: One team (Lichtman/Copley, USA, 4th)
Jr. Worlds: Lichtman/Copley, USA, 3rd

2012
JGPF: One team (Aldridge/Eaton, USA, 4th)
Jr. Worlds: Aldridge/Eaton, USA, 3rd

2013:
JGPF: One team (Aldrige/Eaton, USA, 3rd)
Jr. Worlds: Aldridge/Eaton, USA, 3rd

The last Canadian team to get to JGPF was Ralph/Hill in 2009-2010 JGPF and the last Canadian Team medal at Jr. Worlds was Paul/Islam in 2010.

That said, it's clear that the U.S./Canadian dancers have been nipping at the heels of the podium, so it's not surprising to see them do so well this season.

its called cycle ever remember 2001-2006 ? NA juniors dominateed
for a while 2009 - 2012 Russian juniors had good pairs now they moved up to seniors and have dried up
and its NA juniors doing well again, I don't see any good current russian juniors, it will shift back starting 2015-216 season

, many young russian juniors will be junior international eligible in 2 years with the start of Konkina/Reviya http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=F5Vj3qPzrvw and there are many more of them to be eligible.
