On the commentary (this happened at Canadian nationals), they said it was a shoulder pad from Josée (Piché)'s dress.

LOL 42 - I can imagine!! The funniest part was seeing them skate around it. It fell out pretty early in the program, and fortunately they both knew it was there. There was a point late in the program where they had to do a lot of footwork that took them right where the shoulder pad was, and they skated right around/over it, but maintained total control throughout - they never seemed at all in danger of stepping on it. Full marks to them for that, regardless of their scores in general.
