First, huge thank you to Macassar88 who came up with this idea last year!!

Rules (pretty much the same as last year):

1. Guess the top 6 finisher in each discipline at each Grand Prix event in this thread. We will go one event at a time, so the first predictions will be for Skate America. If you don't know who is competing at an event, you can go here for the info: http://www.isu.org/vsite/vnavsite/page/directory/0,10853,4844-136494-137802-nav-list,00.html

2. Only the top 5 guesses of each person will be scored. The 6th person you guess will be an alternate in case one of the 5 skaters you pick withdraws or can't compete at the last minute.

3. You can change or make your predictions until one hour before the first event at each grand prix event starts. If the pairs are first and they start at 7pm EST, you have until 6pm EST to make all predictions

Scoring

Scoring is going to be different than last year. Please note I'm still open to input on this and let me know if you have questions/ it is not clear.

What I propose that that each correct guess is worth 15 points. If you guess Mao will be first and she is first, that is 15 points. If you guess Mirai is 5th and she is 5th, that is 15 points.

Each guess that is one placement off is worth 10 points. If you guess Ashley is 2nd and she is 1st, you get 10 points. If you guess Gracie is 5th and she is 6th, you get 10 points.

Each guess that is two placements off is worth 5 points. If you guess Akiko is 4th and she in 2nd, you get 5 points. If you guess Tukt is 3rd and she is 5th you get 5 points.

I hope this will accomplish several good things: It will hopefully ensure that each discipline and each GP event have equal weight in your final score. Men won't be more important than ladies because they are worth more points, and Skate America won't be more important than Skate Canada because the judges are scoring higher (for example). It will make it so that each guess everyone makes is equally important and can be equally harmful. It will also hopefully make the scoring easier for the scorers.

Several people were nice enough to say they'd be willing to help score or to help generally in the other thread on this. Please PM me if you are also interested. I will be contacting those who responded to the other thread within a few days.

The Google spreadsheet can be found here: https://docs.google.com/spreadsheet/ccc?key=0Aj0ihY3NN6OzdGtQNFBLSHlZdjJfSnhzbkl3dnJsUmc&usp=sharing

Guess away below!

Quick question before I begin, if I only predict for dance now, can I still predict for the rest on let's say Saturday or Monday?

One week to first ISU GP. So excited, especially in this season (#Sochi14). Who will win Skate America, second and third?

My predictions:

Ladies
1- Mao ASADA. Maybe not win short program, but then in free program get the top.
2- Elena RADIONOVA. She will be the surprise in ISU GP, this season, like others olympic seasons who can't go is always medalled.
3- Ashley WAGNER. Good skate, but not enough.
4- Elizaveta TUKTAMYSHEVA. Rough beginning, like always.
5- Mae Berenice MEITE
6- Samantha CESARIO
7- Valentina MARCHEI
8- Viktoria HELGESSON
9- Caroline ZHANG
10- Elene GEDEVANISHVILI

Men
1- Max AARON. I hope he win. Good programs and at home, perfect to get gold.
2- Daisuke TAKAHASHI. The second mark will help him.
3- Takahiko KOZUKA. Good skate, but his free program costume put him in 3rd. lol
4- Tatsuki MACHIDA
5- Denis TEN. I think he will not start well.
6- Jason BROWN
7- Brian JOUBERT. I even think he won't compete.
8- Adam RIPPON
9- Artur GACHINSKI
10- Alexander MAJOROVPairs

Pairs
1- Tatiana VOLOSOZHAR / Maxim TRANKOV. Easily... They will win everything, fair or not.
2- Kirsten MOORE-TOWERS / Dylan MOSCOVITCH. They will skate very nicely.
3- Caydee DENNEY / John COUGHLIN. Home factor.
4- Stefania BERTON / Ondrej HOTAREK. Nice, some erros, but not enough.
5- Marissa CASTELLI / Simon SHNAPIR
6- Ksenia STOLBOVA / Fedor KLIMOV
7- Felicia ZHANG / Nathan BARTHOLOMAY
8- Margaret PURDY / Michael MARINARO

Ice Dance
1- Meryl DAVIS / Charlie WHITE. Easily too, I love them, so great, but Merly dissapoint me with some speeches,
2- Anna CAPPELLINI / Luca LANOTTE. They will start this season very well. I looking forward to watch the news programs.
3- Maia SHIBUTANI / Alex SHIBUTANI. Home factor too.
4- Madison HUBBELL / Zachary DONOHUE
5- Pernelle CARRON / Lloyd JONES
6- Julia ZLOBINA / Alexei SITNIKOV
7- Isabella TOBIAS / Deividas STAGNIUNAS
8- Cathy REED / Chris REED

Ladies and Men will be stuff. Many good skaters. Pairs not easy to predict 2nd, 3rd and 4th places.

Skate America:

Men:
Ten-don't know, really. If he skates like at Worlds, the title is his..
Takahashi-gets older - jumps get harder to make
Aaron

Ladies:
Asada-she looks strong. I guess everything will come down to how much her score at JO was inflated
Radionova
Wagner
Tuktamisheva-she can easily be 3d, but her short program will kill her as always

Pairs:
Volosozhar and Trankov-I'd be very surprised if they get the 2d, even with falls
Moore-Towers Moscovitch
Berton Hotarek

Dance:
Davis and White-obvious win
Cappellini and Lannotte
Shibs

If you want to play, you have to predict the top5 (possibly with a 6th alternate) ;)

We will still score people who choose to just predict the top 3, for the record. They just have a much smaller chance of winning.

All right, I had no intention of joining - as I'm awful at predictions or guessing. But... This just seems like too much fun to pass up. And besides, someone has to be dead last, right? ;) Might as well be me. :)

So... without further ado:

Skate America

Men:

1. Max Aaron
2. Takahiko Kozuka
3. Daisuke Takahashi
4. Jason Brown
5. Tatsuki Machida
6. Artur Gachinski

ETA Changed because of the withdrawal of Brian. (Boo hiss to the French skating fed whom I now hate with the passion of a thousand suns.)

ETA2 Due to the withdrawal of Denis. (Get well soon, Denis!)

(Honestly? I have noooooo idea! Is it me, or are the men especially tricky?)

Ladies:

1. Mao Asada
2. Ashley Wagner
3. Elena Radionova
4. Elizaveta Tuktamysheva
5. Valentina Marchei
6. Mae Berenice Meite

Pairs:

1. Volosozhar/Trankov
2. Moore-Towers/Moscovitch
3. Berton/Hotarek
4. Denney/Coughlin
5. Stolbova/Klimov
6. Castelli/Schnapir

Note: In ice dance my blind guessing is even more blind - as I don't even watch it. So, if some of my guesses sound especially insane, it's not because I'm betting on an underdog - it's just ignorance plain & simple... But here goes:

Ice dance:

1. Davis/White
2. Cappellini/Lanotte
3. Shibutani/Shibutani
4. Tobias/Stagniunas
5. Hubbell/Donohue
6. Carron/Jones

(And now I'll "go" and see what other people have guessed... )

1. Something we learned last year is that we are ALL terrible at guessing. Welcome to the party!

2. To not be dead last all you have to do is actually guess for each event. If you do this you'll be in the middle at a minimum, promise :)
