All girls in the TOP 6 were clean, with well executed elements!!

The field is VERY deep this season.

Mao is looking really strong. She's skating with a lot fo determination and purpose. Definitely sending a message that she intends to vie for the spoils of Sochi.

That was lovely. DAMN! 73.18.

They clearly gave her the triple axel. MAN this was a HIGH scoring ladies sp. If competitions were more like this people would start watching again!

well its Detroit, what do you expect ?
its an economically depressed city

Was it wise for RF to send Radionova out at seniors in the Olympic Season? She will shadow all the other Russian ladies.
Great program and the score!

I think that they are planning on Kim, Kostner and Asada to retire after the Olympics.
Than Radionova has a good shot a world medal (even gold).

Can Mao not do 3-3 combo's anymore? Yes she does the 3axel but most top skaters can do 3-3's. Her jumps don't have much power behind them. Her jumping prowess has really regressed the last few years.

Mao now does a triple axel with difficult/creative exit, has transitions going into her triple flip which finally got the flow on the landing and does a nice set-up into the loop with that hop. Choreography is wonderful, detailed, sublime. Elegant and yet powerful flow between the elements. The only thing that should be improved is the speed in her spins. Looks like Mao is going for the gold in Sochi. I think she's never been in such form at the very beginning of the season, hasn't she?

The areas around Detroit (particularly where skaters train, such as Canton/Novi, Bloomfield Hills -- most of Oakland County essentially) are actually very wealthy. I think it's more a lack of interest than anything -- Joe Louis Arena is always PACKED when the Red Wings play.

I have to hand it to Asada . . . she has done a complete 180 turn from where she was at the beginning of this Olympic cycle when she first moved to Nobuo Sato and she was skating disastrous program after disastrous program and basically pulling herself off everyone's radars as an Olympic contender. It really wasn't until the 2013 Worlds LP that she began to find her mojo again. Great, solid start to her Olympic season! She has shown that she is a fighter! Her tenacity and determination is paying off! :)
