The music doesn't help Yuna. It lacks the climax needed to lift the skater and the audience, which Mao's music has. For the Olympics, the choice of music seems all the more important. For example, S/S is helped by the glorious Tchaikovsky music; Yuzuru is helped both by his SP and LP music. His music forgives his shortcomings: not so great posture and carriage are de-emphasized by pop music (youngsters have sloppy posture anyway) and Romeo & Juliet music (Romeo can be breathless and almost crawling on the ground in desperation).

The vid of her free skate is no longer available for copyright infringement. Boo

Her doctor gave her the go ahead to skate and she stated same, so I don't believe the injury is the cause of this performance other than effecting her preparation time.

After seeing the lp vid, I am less concerned. I hate that part of the music that starts at 2.40. Not really sure why , but here it seems somewhat out of place.

As a work in progress, Yuna's performance is strong at the start of the season. There are lot more accents and points of interest in the choreography here than the Les Mis program. I think she hit those points better in the second half of the program than in the first. It's all about the position of the hands and the body line; with that sleek, black outfit, it emphasizes her body lines so she can't hide behind anything.

I remember her free skate program to Les Mis at the NRW Trophy and I feel that this has the same nervous quality on technique. Her fall on the opening 3Lz cost her about 5 points with the loss of the 3T (made up a little on the 2T later) and the negative GOE (plus 1-point deduction). The last spin was only a level 1, mainly because she was behind the music at the end. All of her spins, though, were well-centered and her jumps were cleanly landed for the most part. Maybe she was just trying to be safe to get that required TES mark.

I don't mind this selection of Adios Nonino, but it's more complex and requires more fire and emphasized delays than she delivered here. I think she was about 65% on the money with the choreography, just about how she was last year at this time with Les Mis, so I'm not too concerned. I just hope she can rehearse this program more by the time 4CC comes around.

Just read through this thread and...uh...I'm pretty sure there were divisions OTHER than Ladies at Golden Spin, you know.

Anyway I'm pleased for Voronov and unbelievably happy for Artur because THAT'S more like it! Two quads, two triple Axels (one in combination), level 3s and 4s...much, much better, I knew he wasn't finished yet. Watch out Kovtun, these two aren't going to lie down and die!

Gachinski did do so much better than had been the case normally. Voronov seems to always peak around Russian nationals.

Thank you Mao!
I was underwhelmed. And sad. I remember the Yuna who did a delayed triple flip that vaulted six feet over the ice. This Yuna is a shadow of her former self, and I do not understand why she is still competing. She has won everything there is to win, why not retire? Will people even remember the Yuna who was one of the greatest skaters to ever step on ice?
As far as the short programs, there is no comparison, IMO between Asada's inspiring short and Yuna's dead faced one.
The short music is oh so slow and boring, and the long music is sleep inducing.

This post is sleep inducing. A laundry list of privately harbored grudges and unfulfilled wishes does not make for interesting commentary, even with a couple of back-handed compliments for camouflage. Forgive me if I harbor a wish of my own: that yours will remain unfulfilled, at least through Sochi.

I just realized Jin-seo was on the list,
does anybody know what happened to him? According to results page, his name was not up there, but on this thread there is his name..

I agree with most of your points. Fair assessment.

"slow and boring"...
Sorry, but that just makes me have to dismiss your comment. Some people haven't thought things through and just type what exactly what comes to mind, which isn't WRONG, persay. Doesn't prevent their words from sounding a bit...ignorant?

If you're looking for a more logistical answer (besides the fact that maybe Yuna just wants a second gold), I believe that to be part of the Athletes' Commission on the IOC, you need to have competed in two Olympic games.
