I just noticed new "experimental" competition format organized by the Slovak New Years Cup organizers.
Although experimental, perhaps it may catch on and spark more interest in this beautiful sport. It was said to see half empty lower seating sections in Grand Prix events (both USA and Canada). If I understand it correctly, the final even will be elimination style competition and one would be able to see all the best skaters in all categories.
They must have got blessings from the ISU, so it may be a way we will see competition in the future.

Here is their web site:

vexlak, that's very interesting! Do you know whether there will be streaming video? I see that the event is limited to Senior competitors

Actually it's Senior Ice Dance, Ladies and Men and Junior, Advanced Novice and Pre-Novice Girls and Boys.

The format must make it difficult for federations and athletes to plan their logistics and travel, not to mention their training

Yes. Why bother travelling all the way to a competition just to skate your FS.

Many skaters who sometimes don't make the LP or FD at Euros and Worlds might be very, very glad of an opportunity to try out their LP or FD before judges. Certainly only getting a chance to compete their SP or SD hasn't kept skaters away from Euros or Worlds yet. ;)

The website seems to have been updated. They will not be using the experimental method after all.

"After the deadline for applications has passed and number of participants is more or less known, the New Year’s Cup 2014 organizing committee had to make few changes into the time schedule and competition format.

Senior Men and Senior Ladies categories will be organized in standard format (SP + FS), the experimental format as described in the announcement will not be applied.
Senior Dance category is cancelled"

Klepoch skated quite well in the Junior Men SP and missed the minimum Euros score by 1.10 points. :( Danielle Montalbano has made it. :)

Hungary's Marko Marton has made the Euros SP score (not sure whether he had it already but he was missing one of them at least). There are four senior men from three different countries competing so whoever wins will get 250 ranking points. :D

It's another competition that UAE's first skater, Zara Lahri, has competed at. :)

Czech Republic has some very promising young girls! Hanzlikova who won Novice Ladies, landed two 3loops, 3toe, 3salchow and 2axel!!! Duskova who came second landed two 3toes, two 3salchows and a 2axel. Very impressive. :)

Great comeback for Brezinova in the FS with four triples and a 2axel landed.

Any more information about Hanzlikova and/or Duskova? I tried googling them but found no info... :(
