The hotel bar/restaurant is usually open to non-guests. i'd say if you're not blatant or super distracting, the hotel staff wouldn't even know the difference. (And I remember Japanese fans camping out at the hotel entrance waiting for their favorite skaters and the staff didn't blink an eye).

(For the record, I was not staying at the host hotel for Skate America last year).

Good advice from Mrs P. indeed.

Although I never hung around the Novotel to take pictures with the skaters, I know several people who did, successfully.

Now, another subject: Some Italian folks who were sitting behind me wouldn't stop chatting (before, during and after each skater's performance). How rude is that?!!!

I love sitting at hotel bars (of course you have to be old enough) as it's great for people watching. I don't know the layout of the Novotel, but Skate America hotel last year was great because the hotel bar was open and right up front, so you could watch skaters coming in and out. Or you could watch skaters walking around. I don't really like just standing around waiting. I might opt to sit at the bar and see who sits next to me or I might walk around the hotel. I bumped into a couple skaters that way.

That is annoying! I was lucky I never encountered chatty people or the screamy lady from Skater America earlier this season. ;P

As usual, I agree with everything that the wise Mrs. P has said.

I think that her suggestion to keep an eye out for Jason in the stands when other disciplines are competing is a very good one.

And re hanging out at Jason's hotel (where you are not an overnight guest), I don't know about other countries such as France, but if you were in the U.S. instead:
As long as I had bought a cup of coffee in the hotel cafe, or a beverage (even just mineral water, for example) at the hotel bar, or a newspaper/postcard/candy bar/whatever at the hotel newsstand -- you get the idea -- I definitely would not feel like a trespasser.
Although a modest purchase along those lines might not be "necessary," it would not hurt, IMHO -- and might give yourself reassurance that your presence is absolutely legitimate .

Very. Why go to an event if you are going to talk the ENTIRE time? So rude.

    SaraM,
Hope that you have the opportunity to take a photo with Jason today.
If not, maybe you could show up at breakfast on Sunday and offer to help him master the egg maker ....

It was absolutly awesome! He is just so humble and down to earth and so is Kori! She took our picture, there were some others that came up to him as well and Jason stopped and talked to everyone and whenever someone was giving him a compliment he was just blushing and saying thank you, its like he dosent know what a big star he is! Super personality! Talked a little to Kori too, and she sayed that hes been doing quads in practises for awhile now, but its too unstable to put in comp yet this season. I also met Patrick and boy was that funny, first of all i have a newfound respect for Patrick now, he is not cocky whatsoever and you can see that he appreciates his fans, he was willingly posing for pictures then kathy came and started chase everyone away, babling about theyre on a tight schedule and he needs to rest, she was running in and out of the elevator like a headless chicken like shes so important and kept saying come patrick, Patrick just ignored her and kept interacting with the fans, very classy! Also i noticed after he got his record score today, all the media and everyone was around him and he just left them and instead started signing autograps for fans from the tribune for like 15 min! And the whole time the media wanted to talk to him but he just kept signing!! Jason also put his medal around Koris neck after the podiums that was too cute.
Also John Coughlin is my new buddy now, talked to him for like 20 mins! So yeah hanging around the hotell was a great idea, superhappy! Had a great experience here in paris :D

Sara, what a delightful experience you had!

I think Jason's a bit starstruck himself and probably sees himself as a newbie, so getting all this attention is probably a new thing for him, hence the blushing.

I would love to talk to Kori --- she seems so laid back and does such a great job coaching Jason.

And thank you on the report on Patrick as well. Glad to hear that he is so great to his fans!

Sara, thank you SO MUCH for sharing this lovely, funny, informative, and altogether wonderful report!

Is Kori as beautiful in person as she looks on TV? I seriously think she is one of the most gorgeous women I have ever seen. and I didn't know that about Jason putting the medal around her neck- adorable!
