Thnaks. I wonder why they did that.
And the French win!!! Great start of the day
During the CoC SD TV broadcast on Universal Sports, I believe Tanith Belbin mentioned that S/B redid their programs after getting negative feedback about them earlier in the season.

Pechalat/Bourzat: level 3 on steps, level 4 on the rest (base: 40.20)
Bobrova/Soloviev: level 3 on steps, level 2 and 3 on two lifts, level 4 on rest (base: 38.20)
Chock/Bates: same as P/B

B/S definitely needs to work on the levels

It looked like both P&B and C&B had put much more effort into the FD than their SD.

I do think the 10.0 is P&B's first: good for them  I'll have to check...

A&E however, have a pretty good SD, but Bollywood is just not a good fit for them.

ETA I checked their personal best FD at Worlds 2012, and in fact, they got a 10 in Choreo and another in Performance from one judge.

I'm so happy P&B won! My computer started installing an update during their FD and I missed most of it. Then my stream froze during B/S but the part I did see didn't look that interesting TBH (granted I'm not a B/S fan at all).

I checked back and they did get a 10 in Choreo & one in Performance at Worlds in Nice, but it's their first 10 not on home ice I think. I'm just thrilled.

I don't know. I love Pechalat/Bourzat. But they are slow across the ice, don't have a dance holds at all, always hand to hand or no hold. They didn't create new lifts. Even program looking recycled from their other dances. At least they have levels thanks to Igor. :) Hoping for a bronze medal but If Weaver/Poje can master those tango I don't think they wiill.

I'm sorry, but I cracked up at B/S's facial expressions at the start of their dance, and I don't think that's the reaction they wanted. Is there supposed to be a story somewhere in there? Because I'm not getting it if there is.

Not a fan of C/B's FD.

I love P/B's FD, however. I think they're the best storytellers in Ice Dance today. They seemed a bit slow at times, but overall it was a great performance.

I thought I would like P/B more, its cute, but somehow it was lacking something, speed maybe, more dynamic music? Maybe I need to put in my contact lenses. For B/S I am just sad, you could see that Ekaterina was upset at the end just putting on a brave face. They both know that F/D is not the best, but as we know Zhulin is not a man who tolerates objections. They deserve better than this. Tarasova should have his hide!!

Both their original dances were more interesting, both of them.

What else did Tanith say? How about about P&B and C&B?

I'm a bit too sleep deprived to remember faithfully what was said. Tanith's reaction right away about the P/B lift was that it was a well covered error out of the lift. (I think she thought this was due to a mistiming issue). She seemed to think that Nathalie had both knees on the ice, and therefore it would be counted as a fall with -1 deduction. There was no mention of an appeal to the judges. She liked the playfulness of the program. She was very complimentary about how Fabian had struggled to compete at the World Championships earlier this year, despite his injury, because he wanted to help maximize the number of dance teams France would be able to send to the Sochi Olympic games.

I'm afraid all I recall of Tanith's C&B commentary was her notice of Madison's twizzle bauble(my word not her description), and Tanith saying something like once the technical specialists notice the skater riding up on the toe portion of the blade they stop counting the revolutions of the twizzle. Its done.

I hope NBC will show some of the ice dancing on its telecast tomorrow. It sounds like the strongest discipline of the competition so far.

I like P&B's FD, but Igor needs to drill them on speed as it is too slow in some sections. They needed the win here to be in the podium mix in Sochi. B&S have speed but little control as the FD looks frantic and sloppy. At this point the Italians have the edge but there are several months to go.

To be fair to B&S, their program has been in a state of constant flux. I expect it to look better by the time they get to CoR.

And I wouldn't rule out W&P, KKonas. They are also in fine shape at this point in the season.

I want to see all these teams at the GPF, where they will have the same tech panel.

CoC was much stricter on the Finnstep than SA or SC. Lots of times, who earns which position hangs on acing the SD, and that means getting levels in the pattern daNce.

I expect everyone to improve by February.

Well, this is the OWG we are talking about. W/P are strong but have not won a national title or a major international championship. I think politically they have a better chance for the podium at Worlds.

Of course.

I agree levels are key, but I think the teams at COC just didn't skate the Finnstep as well as other teams in SA or SC.

Very happy that P/B won. Good for them!

Their FD is really charming. They still need to work on it so that it has a better flow, but overall a very pretty, interesting dance. Miles better than B/S and I think they're back in the race for Olympic bronze.

Having said that, if anything can be said after CoC it's that D/W and V/M are completely safe as far as gold and silver go.
