If I can only take one performance with me on my desert island dvd disc of hers would be her Field of Gold at the Olympics.

To me, it defined her as a human being, it transcend skating, transcend competitions. I cried buckets as a little girl, learned a lot towards life lessons over night.
It was simply unforgettable.

Anything I would have mentioned has already been mentioned, so I'll just leave this here:

I'm pretty sure it hasn't been posted. ;)

I had forgotten this tribute- and it brought tears to my eyes. Of course, I have just been rewatching all my own favorites as I read through this thread (FOG, East of Eden, Pocahontas,1996, 1998, Dante's prayer), most of which have been posted. Another one that is a favorite for me, mostly because my daughter and I were there to see it, was in 2003 when she won her fifth World title. It was not just the skating but her joy upon finishing her free skate which was palpable and radiated throughout that arena.

No one like her since. No one with that same power to move you as she had. I love many of the current skaters, but she still remains the skater of my heart.

UMM, Romanza?!?!?! She finally skated like a young woman and completely delivered it. I always wished she'd bring it back more than East of Eden or Rach because there was so much attention to detail and musicality. EOE and Rach was more about the smiral and its effect. With Romanza she just delivered the total package. This SP would have to hold up even now. Not one arm or leg or foot was out of place. Brilliant. Amazing to see.

Most of my favorite Michelle Kwan performances have already been listed (2004 Nationals FS, 1998 Nationals FS, 1998 Olympics SP, 1996 Worlds SP & FS), but I wanted to share this one lesser-known performance from Michelle at the 1998 Goodwill Games. It was the last time that she performed Lyra Angelica. Yes, there are a few mistakes--fall on the 3Loop and a doubled salchow--but who cares? She skates with lots of speed and confidence and a freedom that you didn't see at the Olympics (and maybe not even at Nationals). The unusual camera angles make it a really interesting performance to watch.

Here is also a terrific Michelle Kwan playlist: http://www.youtube.com/playlist?list=PL68176171BC26C5B8

Speaking of the Goodwill Games, her Exhibition there gave me chills. Lea Salonga's voice + Michelle Kwan's skating + a gorgeous dress = PERFECTION!!! Inspired by this thread, I just re-watched it for the first time in a long time. SO BEAUTIFUL!!!

This one is for Wordsworthgirl who wanted some pre-1995 Michelle for comparison. Here she is at something called the "Outdoor Challenge" at age 14. It's worth a look because at the beginning Michelle and Frank discuss the incident where Frank told her not to test up to Seniors but she snuck behind his back and did it anyway. :)

To show the qualities of her skating: 1996 Worlds FS, 1998 Nationals SP, 2004 Nationals FS
To show that she had difficult times, too: 2002 SLC FS
To show her ability to share her emotions with an audience: 2002 SLC Fields of Gold EX
A pre-1996 video could also help to make them understand how she improved...

yes, I agree, a pre-1996 video to show the improvement and transformation is key!
