Congratulations to my dad for being selected by the ISU to be a Technical Specialist for the 2014 Winter Olympics!

Peter Cain and his sister Elizabeth represented Australia in the 1980 Olympics in pairs, placing 11th.

Educated guess that he's going to do the pairs event. He can't do ladies or dance since U.S. placed top 5 in both of those disciplines.

That's fun. :) And yeah, he'll probably do pairs, especially with his background in it.

Peter Cain is a tech specialist in Singles & Pairs for Australia, not the U.S. He is not a tech specialist for ice dance.

Oh, that makes sense! I forgot that Peter Cain is still an Australian citizen.

Still it must be pretty cool for Ashley to see her dad be involved in the Olympics in some way. I wonder if she'll get to go to Sochi as a result?

If you meant that Ashley will go to Sochi and just be a spectator at the games, most probably but if you mean as a part of Team USA, I'm not quite sure.

At the moment, I she will have to push herself to the MAX if she wants to make the team. She is still quite young and has alot of potential. If not 2014, she will have a better shot in 2018.
And if it still doesn't work out for her fully, she can pull the citizenship card, since her father is Australian. It's just a thought because Chantelle and Brooklee (who is also using the citizenship cards) are fantastic skaters and I want them to be the frontrunners for Australian Ladies' skating but you might never know- if going to the Olympics is your goal, wouldn't you do almost anything in your means (which is still respectful and with integrity) to make that dream a reality....just a thought.

Nonetheless, well done Peter! I love the fact that even though Australia is not a top skating nation, we have judges, Technical specialists and referees who judge top level competition. Alot of respect for them!

Yeah, I definitely meant as a spectator, i.e. as a family trip while Dad's doing his thing. I think Ashley is a super dark horse at best for the Olympic Team. She has great basics (probably thanks to her dad!), but she still needs to work on being more consistent with her lutz and 3F-3T.

I actually miss Ashley as a pairs skater. She had a lot of promise when she was with Josh Reagan. But alas, she is probably too tall for any potential partners at this point.
