The Referee is the wife of Piseev, the head of the Russian federation.
The Technical Controller is Katalin Alpern (ISR) who used to judge for HUN before the breakup of the USSR
Sylwia Nowak-Trebicka is a former ice dancer (in the 90's) from Poland
An all European tech panel where two members are eastern-European will tend to prefer the Russian style.

You assumed incorrectly. Ms. Alpern has had a reputation of being Canadian friendly ever since the Ice Dance controversies started with Bourne/Kraatz vs. Block Judging allegations in the late 1990s. She often sided with B/K against a predominantly Russian influenced panel, first as a Hungarian judge. In those days 1998-2002 period, not many European judges would want to be perceived as Canadian friendly without incurring the wrath of the Russians - she was one of the few exceptions. The other exception is now the Chairwoman of ISU Ice Dance Technical Committee and there is a reason why she is elected as opposed to the referee of this competition from Russia.

Don't really know Mr. Webster, can't comment on him.

Don't know Ms. Nowak either, haven't heard she is particularly political one way or the other. I will however say Poland, since the 1990s is much more Western aligned than being a Russian satellite. Despite being an Eastern European country, Poland has strongly resisted the Russians in recent years. I don't think they like the Russians any more than the Lithuanians. As for any perceived or real cultural influences based on her upbringing, I doubt it would be significant or material.

Unlike the TEB Technical Panel, at least the one here does not have any apparent, whether real or perceived, conflict of interests. None of the nations presented here are in the Top 5 at Worlds, in fact, these are fairly low ranking members in the Ice Dance world - I think they will be fairly objective.

Sorry Chuck, if you are looking for "somebody" to put W/P under an ultra-fine microscope a la a woman who shall remain nameless last week, it ain't happening this week.

First of all, the referee has nothing to do with the technical panel and no influence on them. What judges do is separate from what the technical panel does (other than adjusting GOE based on e, < and << calls).

Every single judge is involved with, nominated by and represents their national federation.

Secondly, just because somebody is from Eastern Europe doesn't mean that they 'prefer the Russian style' (whatever that even means). I don't understand the connection you are trying to make here.

Most of piseevs power was ended after the catastrophe of Vancouver. He's not the power he once was because he ran dance pairs and men into the ground. Destroyed 3 disciplines of Russian skating. Poland is it's own country now and very anti Russia! That's why the polish woman in considered always pro American and Canadian. Same thing when you see a lithuanian.

Countries like Poland, Czech Republic, Slovakia, Hungary etc. actually like to be considered Central European. They pretty much take naming them Eastern European as an afront.

Poland was never even a part of USSR, so I completely don't get people who still consider it connected to Russia in any way. Newsflash, Poland and Russia do not like each other. Never did, never will.
