The finnish commentator who apparently is a technical specialist / coach said that Julia should have gotten -2. She should have gotten 2 falls according to her.

she lost the tie breaker to Elena and Akiko

I know she did, I just wonder why these commentators don't look this stuff up. "Kostner will go to the GPF with the second place without question".

I thought Mirai should have won the competition. She needs to find a way to be more expressive to get higher Component scores. If she can't do it naturally she needs to choreograph areas to smile and sell every once of the program. She is leaving too many points on the table.

Kostner looked like she was wearing a diaper. I think the costume she had before this one was better. I did not like the program, but she kept trying to sell it. I guess it worked.

Julia, I was not expecting that. It's actually good that she skated bad here then at the Olympics. Now she knows what it's going to feel like skating in front of the home crowd.

Liza, my favorite Russian lady. I knew she was going to have problems after skating pretty well in her Sp. She and her team need to go back to the drawing board with everything. For her not making the GPF is a blessing. They have more time to train and figure out some issues. I wonder if she is using a sports psychologist. She needs to find one and quick. She needs to lose that I'll fitting black dress. She does not have a waistline. She needs to have someone design a costume that makes her look like she has a waistline. I think she would look taller. She has nice legs. But with the outfits she's wearing, she looks short and stocky. She has such as pretty face. Find a hairstyle that compliments her face. Please lose the gloves!

Agnes was her old self. But after watching her I think she has endurance problems. She could barely do a double.

because Julia is usually consistent this is one of her bad skates and did not anticipate this to happen at all

To be a champion you have to make the most of even your bad skates, which she didn't. She has time to learn how, and she's a very strong competitor. But between the two Elena has the superior mentality in terms of saving points and making the most of what she has.

here is julia's interview after her FS just translate to google: http://www.team-russia2014.ru/article/12807.html

she said she did not anticipate the 2 errors at the start of her FS was caught off guard and did not know what to do next
Elena was taught by her mentor to do 3-3 combos in half of program if she missed thats the only advantage of Elena

Julia's coach Tutberidze: http://www.team-russia2014.ru/article/12809.html
Julia felt pressure skating last and di not know what to do after her 2 mistakes at teh start of her FS
she said Julia will do better in GPF and Mao Asada will be ahead of her in the SP

I haven't watched the competition yet, so I don't know whether she should have won, but this is a problem that I have with Mirai. She is a lovely skater. I just wish she would smile more. But perhaps, she doesn't feel comfortable enough with her jumps yet to loosen up and have a good time with the program. I'm looking forward to watching her performance, and I'm so happy that she pulled through and got a medal!

The only advantage? Well that's a huge advantage that saves tons of points, what use is it being able to skate well if you can only do it when everything is perfect? And I'm not going to start an Elena vs Julia fight when Elena wasn't even at this event.

As much as i am disappointed that Carolina didnt make the GPF, i am still impressed and pleased with the progress she has made from her last GP. She looked much less nervous here in the FS. The program has already progressed a lot since COC. Obviously some silly mistakes on jumps that without would have put her in the final. But at least it wasn't another total disaster.

Thinking on the positive side, she now has plenty time to progress further and make those program perfect for Europeans.

Kostner looks like 4 years ago.

Those two programs lose to everything she has done for the last three years.

Bolero and the Vampire SP were full of passion so you would forget about the mistakes. With her new FS she is just skating around and doing mistakes. Same for the SP.

I HOPE SHE BRINGS BACK BOLERO- the judges and the audience loved it!

I think Tuktamysheva has shown worse GP performances comparing to Lipnitskaya, Sotnikova and Pogorilaya. The only way she is in the Russian team is performing perfect at the Russian Nationals. I think she may even lose Euros to Pogorilaya. Poor girl. So much talent but there is always inconsistancy and failure either in SP or LP. Hope she comes back with a great Nationals and Euros performances after this, like last season.

Mirai? No way. She is always stone-faced when she skates. I saw her in Finlandia Trophy this year and she didn't look at all like she would enjoy skating :( She is talented of course but something happened to her after 2010 and she isn't able to interpret music and her programmes so well. That's why I don't like her much.

I hate it when people complain about Liza's weight. She looks completely normal! Not all women have a waistline and when you say someone should design a dress for her so that she would look like having a waistline, aaaarghhhhh!! :scowl: I do agree that she needs help on the mental side. I also read that she injured her back recently and that had an impact on her skating in CoR.

I think Tuk's weight is a problem. If she doesnt do something about the weight then she will be the next rachael flatt. Im not saying she is fat, no, she is a normal sized girl. But she is not the size that is best suited for this sport and its not helping the jumps or the components.

Bingo !!!

How your insulting of her weight isn't considered overly derogatory towards her is a wonder. :rolleye: She could weigh 100 pounds and Sotnikova could skate perfectly, and you'd say she has weight issues and Sotnikova is a head-case. :bang::bang:

Why are so many ladies getting edge calls on the flip? Lutz is the easier of the two to mess up, but in the free skate there were tons of flip edge calls.

Is this the same commentator who thinks Mirai Nagasu is from Japan? LOL

And: Agree with poster that Caroline's dress looks like a diaper. Awful awful dress.

I find it's sad because I think if Mirai would have sell more her program by showing more passion, smile and sparkling personality that she would have deserve to win the Gold medal here :bang:

But, I'm happy for her because I was begin to think that she doesn't have any chance to make the team USA for Sochi, but she prove me that I'm wrong, if she skate like that at National, I think that she has good shot for 2nd or 3rd place at nationals :)

I miss her great personality in her program, but even if she have a stone face, I really like her, she is special and has a beautiful musicality in her skating.

At least I have see some smile in her program, it's great to see that she begin to have more confidence in her skating :)

Skating is so chaotic. Now will people say Mirai is in the mix for the Olys. We all know she has the potential and the potential to do well not only at Nats but internationally but will she do it is another thing. that is the thing about these posts one bad skate and you are done;one good skate you are the answer to world peace. It is usually a body of work that defines you (well I guess that isn't true you could do crappy all year long and if you make the Olys and fluke out or whatever you want to call it (because some would say you just skated to your full potential) you could get defined by essentialy two skates.
