And I found this report from the Sochi Olympics that I don't remember seeing before because there were many of them. It's a report on Dai and Tatsuki and how Tatsuki evolved as a skater looking up to Dai. There's even footage of 15 year old Tatsuki watching Dai compete at the Turin Olympics.

I can hardly wait myself to see his new programs and I certainly hope we won't have to wait till the GP season starts. Most of the skaters have unveiled their new SP / LP but there are no ice shows left for Tatsuki to attend so I'm not sure when the premiere is going to be.

Maybe Japan Open? There's no news on who is going, it's always been Dai and Taka for the last few years. Taka is probably still going this year but who will replace Dai? Hopefully Tatsuki.

I also hope for Tatsuki's sake that he has a chance to skate before his home crowd in a competition this year.

Tatsuki looking (very) good in those pictures, thanks ionap!

Precious video with footage of a chibi Daisuke skating (I think). Thanks again ionap for sharing this find!
As I couldn't understand what was being said in Japanese, I concentrated on the visuals. Tatsuki's expression watching Daisuke's SP at the Turin Olympics reminds me of Yuzuru's when Yuzuru was looking at Evgeni Plushenko practice on the Olympic ice in Sochi. Both had this awestruck expression on their faces, fanboying.

Also, a bonus in watching the video is is also seeing the evolution of the hairstyles of both Tatsuki and Daisuke through the years. As has been more than once noted, gallons of ink can be used writing about the TJ men's coiffure ;).

^ Yes, that is footage of chibi Daisuke, and that's his mother saying he first started skating on February 14, 1994 and his LP in Sochi will be on February 14, 2014. He has possibly skated his swan song, a Beatles medley that had the purpose of summing up his life, on the 20th anniversary of his skating journey.

As he was watching Daisuke in Turin with an awestruck expression, Tatsuki said he's wishing "Dai-chan" lots of good luck.

Posting this here as part of the "Tatsuki fanboying over Dai" topic

Dai performing the Cyberswan back at his old high school in Kurashiki, where Tatsuki was still studying at the time. You can spot Tatsuki cheering for Dai at the beginning of the video.

And since I've been posting videos of young Tatsuki, I'm adding his LP from the 2007 International Counter Match

You can also spot him here sitting behind Dai in the k&c.

Let's hope that it will not be Phantom. Or else I am sure the judges would just ding all the skaters for their music choices.

I think I'm now at the point of "Why not Phantom?" after seeing the number of skaters using it.

Naah, Michi is far more sophisticated than that, I'll trust he'll save us from all the POTO music.

I can see it now... throngs of POTO-dressed skating fans filling up each ISU-sanctioned event throughout the 14-15 season.... as the 'other' skaters take the ice, they began to shout the burning question in unison- "Why not Phantom? Join us."

Well as long as he said this
Q: Next season, you’ll be able to use music with vocals, right?
A: I want to create a program that has never been witnessed before in the world of figure skating by taking advantage of the rules to weave together a sequence that’s ethereally beautiful. For now, it’ll be a secret (Laughs).
... he probably means he won't skate to any of the overused pieces. Hopefully

^I'll be surprised if Tatsuki's music for this season is the same as any of the skaters.

As much as I look forward to seeing the artistic components of his programs, I also wonder at how Tatsuki will increase the base value (BV) of the technical elements in his programs. (There was a discussion earlier on this thread on how he can do it without having another kind of quad jump as it is unlikely he'll have that for this season.) I'm sure it was not lost on Tatsuki that it was the lower BV of the technical elements in his Long Program that ultimately made him lose by the minutest of margins to Yuzuru at 2014 Worlds.

The thing though is Yuzuru (crazy boy) is himself upping the ante as to the BV of his programs.

^Thanks so much ionap for the much awaited updates (at least for me) on Tatsuki's program music this season! Tatsuki's manner of disclosure of his programs brings to my mind the "Dance of the Seven Veils," what with the tantalizing hints and piecemeal revelations (not in the x-rated sense, I hasten to add). No matter; I am very happy with his musical choices. :)

I remember how moved I was watching Mao's and Akiko's programs set to Fantasy for Violin and Orchestra, and I think Tatsuki, who is every bit as musical as his female compatriots, will also be able to do justice to that lovely, lovely piece. Beethoven's Ninth Symphony is grand, sweeping music. Apparently the Bernstein performance was a historic one for the Christmas 1989 concert marking the fall of the Berlin Wall. For me, Tatsuki has developed the presence, the command over the ice to carry this music well. I hope this season he will keep in mind to share with and look at the audience more, as Daisuke does so well, and not seem so much like the solitary artist, which Kurt Browning has noted at last Worlds. Of course I also wish he retains that technical consistency with his jumps and then some (more jump combos in the second half of his programs).

On a more shallow note, I can't help notice his new hairstyle where he appears to be channelling Stephane Lambiel a bit. ;)

The performance you're talking about isn't the one ioanap linked but this one - a historic performance indeed. They sang the German word for "freedom" instead of "joy" in the finale.

I agree - the 9th is the greatest of the greats, the symphony of all symphonies. It's soaring and colossal and absolutely monumental. I'm very curious to see which portions of the symphony he'll use, if he'll use any of the vocals or if he'll stick to the beginning movements. If he'll be able to pull it off, because this symphony, at least for me, takes the entire heart and mind to even listen to, one of those pieces that exhausts you but leaves you fulfilled. I have high expectations for this but with the right choreography, I think this could work.

Tatsuki on his programs for the coming season:

I've worked on my new programs since May. Through working with new programs, both long and short, the idea of 'far north' came to my mind. I'll go with this theme all through this season. I think I don't have to explain about the theme here. Please watch my skating and imagine what I mean.

My new SP is Fantasy for Violin and Orchestra, and LP is Ninth Symphony by Beethoven. They are both very popular musics, so I wish I'll own them. If I apply my theme to those programs, it must be 'far north of tragic love' for SP and 'far north of symphonic skating' for LP.

My first competition is Skate America of GPS. So the announcement of my programs here in this press conference is based on my original plan. I have self-confidence with both of my programs. Wish I'll do well in each of the competitions in GPS.

Thank you for sharing the translation, Maria. I read the original article myself and interpreted the kanji for "far north" as "extremity" - I personally think that's what it means in this context but I could be wrong. The kanji for tragic love (hiren) can also be interpreted as sad love, as the word "tragic" may be a little too strong.

Thus, in the SP he is portraying the extremities of a sad love - an overwhelming feeling of suffering and disappointment, while the LP is an extremity of symphonic skating; Symphony no 9 is, as jimeonji said, the symphony of symphonies. Colossal. Monumental. Extreme.

It's good to know he feels self confident about his programs and I can't wait to see the moments he creates using the themes he has chosen.

^Thanks for this ionap. Much obliged to you and the other kind and generous fans who do English translations for us fans who do not know Japanese.

Thanks also to jimeonji for pointing me to the correct Bernstein conducted Ninth Symphony performance that Tatsuki will be interpreting. The performance for the Berlin Celebration Concert is my favorite due to context, but in any case as both you and ionap noted, the piece itself is epic. Tatsuki would have to skate "big" to do justice to that kind of music. I think he has it in him to do so, and I hope his decision not to "test run" his programs before the GPS will work well for him.
