V/M had the better performance tonight, but D/W fd is still technically stronger. And even though D/W won tonight, I sense momentum is slowly changing in favour of V/M with them closing the gap on the scores (especially since I think V/M should have been a little ahead in the sd)... but it may be too little too late.

But with Marlie continuing to up their WR, you could say they're gaining momentum too. At a certain point, the scores get so high they don't really have much further up they can go.

This is EXACTLY the kind of season I was hoping for at the end of last year. It's like the perfect illustration of one of my favorite quotations from Willy Wonka and the Chocolate Factory: The suspense is killing me. I hope it will last.

The big question for me is where is I/K going to fit into all of this...

Actually I believe a perfect FD score with all level 4s and +3 everything is 119+ So there's still six more points to go. :)

Love the Willy Wonka quote....the book and movie are both my faves. :)

I do agree with you... hence my comment on being too little too late. It's just that V/M previous season's high was 107 something

Haha. Good Willy Wonka quote... although that movie scared the bejeezus out of me as a kid.

But then Charlie and the Great Glass Elevator was SUCH a weird disappointment as a follow up. Sort of like B/S's FD this year. And I had such high hopes for them at the end of last season. The first 2/3rds of their FD last year was such a breakthrough. At the very least I hope they change their costumes for the second half of the season. Right now they look like they're more likely to dance to Flashdance or the Miami Vice Soundtrack than Crazed Birds On Drugs.

On the other hand, Andrew Poje was born to dance the tango. So, Mrs P, you and Doris are my tech experts here. What happened? Level 2 on the step sequences? What the...???

Loved seeing the top 2 teams competing together. I prefer D/W so I am happy for their win
but how can you not adore what V/M do on the ice. Both teams were amazing and in my
mind the judging could have gone either way. I wish they had 2 gold medals.

Thrilled for Natalie and Fabian, loved their FD!

Congrats to the Medalists!

I think V/M freedance score was way inflated for what they did. I knew that would happen. It's like the judges inflated their score for drama and to put pressure on D/W to skate their best. Previously I predicted Weaver/Poje to finish last or fifth. They are just not that good technically. They have good programs and performance, but I noticed at least two stumbles by Poje, and this performance of their long program was the worst I have seen on the grand prix. it looked labored. Their is no conspiracy about it, if B/S skate better they win and I think were rightly placed ahead of Weaver/Poje.

The perfect ice dance scores.

SD 81.00 (41+40)
FD 119.50 (59.50+60)

Perfect score in ice dance 200.50. (i wish it were a little simpler mathematically. Why does kt ha e to be 200.50 and not something more rounded like 200?) Maybe when the ISU make more changes to the ice dance again (they seem to change rules every year) in the future, they will readjust is. It would be much easier if i can say the max score is 80 in the SD, 120 in the FD and 200 is the highest score.

I think it's safe to say that the Olympic medals are going to come down to D/W and V/M for gold and silver and P/B, B/S, or I/K for bronze. None of the other teams have shown improvement throughout the season and don't have the political backing to push for the Olympic podium.

It's like Meryl baked the most delicious cake, sat it on the table and told Tessa and Scott "You may have ONE slice of my most delicious, beautiful cake"......
WELL THEY TRIED TO TAKE THE WHOLE DAMN CAKE!!..... Then came the predictable beating for their misbehavior.

I'd appreciate some more analysis/explanation too!
I'm sad I don't understand enough about the intricacies of ice dance, because even now that I've watched their programme again with the technical marks next to it to see where they lost their points, I couldn't find any major mistakes.
Given Andrew's reaction at the end of the programme, it must have been obvious to him. Still, I can't see it :( (In my defense, the B Esp commentators, 1 of which was an ice dancer, didn't spot anything wrong with that programme until they noticed the low technical element score. They said "captivating, mindblowing, brilliant brilliant programme really well executed, fantastic job, W/P at their very very best, thank you, I loved it")
Anyone?

Just saw the dance results on ISU. Let out a little scream when I saw the French stormed back to take the bronze from the Russians! :jaw::clap::party: I am so thrilled for them (and hope they are too), especially after TEB!

Congratulations also to D/W and V/M on their medals.

Now off to see the videos!

W/P looked tight to me. They didn't bring the drama as in their previous skates. Weaver needs to match Poje a bit better, because the disparity between the two is getting more obvious, I think she's just nervous, but I think the coaches will address that in their own way.

B/S have lovely skating skills, albeit Katya's posture is not very good, but I do feel for them. Their team did not serve them well this year. This program, in my opinion doesn't serve them well. It doesn't fit them. This program needs long, deep, sweeping edges, balletic grace and posture and explosive power. Not to mention as well that their lifts in no way match the intensity of their music.

Well, since they lost levels on their step sequences, that can be hard to see since just an edge mistake in one place can drop you a level. But I think at 3:15-3:16 on the BESP upload in the diagonal step sequence, Andrew seems to have a bit of a bobble?

But I can't see the problem with the twizzles, tbh. Looks like he grabs his blade in time, I see four rotations...

I'll be curious to see what one of the techier posters has to say about it, too. I thought they looked good, better than at CoR.

I really loved Meryl and Charlie's performance, it looked like their best outing so far to me. I still don't quite love the final ending pose, but I know there's not much they can do since Charlie swings her down out of the lift and the program ends, and I do think it is much improved from the first one.

Well-deserved IMO. I love both of their programs.

The look of disdain on Weaver's face when their scores come up is hilarious. I think she has unrealistic expectations based on the home cooked Skate Canada scores.

agreed, SO glad for P/B after their disappointing TEB. And hope they can keep this momentum up for Olys!
