Lisa certainly has some positive qualities as a skater, namely her fire during the in between jump segments of her programs. She definitely has that diva thing going on, and it definitely comes naturally to her...she isn't putting it on or pretending to be something she's not. However, she has an unflattering body shape, rather ugly positions and seems to headcase easily and often.

For everyone suggesting a coaching change for Liza, what possibilities do you have in mind? I can't really see Liza leaving Russia, so what Russian coaches are available? Tutberidze has a lot of skaters already so that's probably unlikely, Tarasova isn't really coaching anymore, Morozov would be an even worse idea, Vodorezova has Adelina.....

I think Brian Orser could do wonders for her and bring back her spark. But she would have to move to the U.S.

Personally, I also think Brian Orser would probably be a good choice too. He seems to do best with skaters who come to him with fairly strong jump technique but need some extra polishing in their skating (e.g. Yu-Na Kim, Yuzuru Hanyu)....in other words, someone like Liza. But I really can't see Liza going to Orser--for some reason, Russian skaters tend to stick to Russian coaches.

To Canada, you mean? I agree that Orser would probably be a good choice--I doubt she'll leave though.

Another possibility would be Averbukh.

I love this girl. She has so much talent. But the competition between Russian women is so difficult. It's also going to get more difficult.
I would love to see her try Pairs skating.

What about Inna Goncharenko?
Talk about a coach who has very expressive students (ie. Radionova, Proklova....)
Also Liza already has very good jumping technique so we wouldn't have to worry about Goncharenko teaching her a terrible axel :p

Menshov and Artemieva's coach

Evgeni Rukavitsyn. His group is crowded, yet I think a skater with fine jumps would be a God's gift straigt from heaven for him and he won't deny.
Academy of Figure Skating (their club) has great specialists in skating skills and choreographer.
But Rukavistyn's skaters are widely known for being unstable, for many years they headcase on the regular basis. And he has nearly no political power.

Hmmm... I wonder how Liza would feel though going to practice directly with her competitors. It's one thing for Radionova, Proklova, and Adelina all to practice together. They grew up doing so. But it's another thing for a competitor to join them. Surely, there's many instances of this happening in figure skating, but I don't know if Liza would want to do that. It does have its advantages though. Competitors make you work harder.

Hey, the two greatest North American ice dance couples worked with the same coaches for years. At one point, before Belbin/Agosto departed for another coach, the three greatest couples trained in the same facility. Why shouldn't it work for Tukt?

Mishin is known primarily for his jump technique, and he's given Liza T. a fine grounding. But for refinement and creative inspiration, she needs to get someone else's input. Surely in all of Russia, with its grand and beautiful skating and ballet heritage, there is a coach who could take on one of the country's best young skaters.

Pairs skating will be as competitive as ladies skating. There is 5 junior pairs who all got into JGPF and most of them (if not all of them) will move to seniors next year, so going to pairs is not very good option for her.

I think the philosophy toward this is a bit different in Russia than in the USA. since there are more or less a finite number of coaches, and since coaches try to get all the good students they can, skaters are very used to and expect to be training with their competitors. Liza has been in a somewhat unique situation within russia as Mishin does not take many women. However many Russians must train with their direct competition- for example Lipnitskaia and shelepin trained together when Shelepin was still very good and went 1-2 at the JGPF. While it might be an adjustment for Liza, it would be quite normal in russia for her to go train alongside Julia or Adelina, and all would just accept it.

As for Liza going to a non Russian coach, there is a very obvious reason not many skaters do so: money. the federation essentially pays for all training for skaters at Liza's level. She does not pay her coach and would not pay a different Russian coach. She would need to pay Orser or find a sponsor. easier by FAR to stay within Russia's coaching system, and far more practical too.

it should be an alarm for Tuk to leave Mishin with rumors of Gachinski have left him already
Tuk still has next season to get herself together, but she needs a make over fast even Leonova is getting back to form

I think she can still redeem herself next season but if there is no progress, she will be in trouble in 2016,
Medvedeva, Sakhanovich, Sotskova, Proklova etc will all be senior eligibles

she needs to run away from Mishin now
just dont go to Sokolovskaya or her career is done forever

She needs to go to Adelina's coach, and if Adelina has a sports psychologist she needs the psychologist too.

finding a new coach is a tricky one, all the good russian coaches are loaded

Buyanova has Sotnikova and Kovtun, doubt she'll take her
Tutberidze group is very full Julia, Adian, Medvedeva, Voronov etc.
Goncharenko has Radionova, Samarin and Proklova,
maybe go to Sakhanovich's coach Pisarenko ?

or she could phone her old coach Svetlana V., have her come back to Russia and coach her again

I hope she leaves! She can't do the same sp and lp forever like she's been doing and losing her jumps and sp disasters.

Next year is the make it or break it year for her; she cannot stay mediocre and worse going backwards. She needs to embrace her body and move on - where is that girl who could do a triple axel????
