I'm heartbroken for Dai, but I have to say that he didn't deserve that kind of monstrous PCS

The crowd goes mad every time he's on the ice. And he was the most expressive skater in the last group. That helps him w/ PCS, and the fact that his federation loves him.

Kozuka's performance not perfect, but should be enough to keep him on the podium.

Yeah, it's very reminiscent of how we all felt about Michelle at the end of her career.

I love Kozuko's skating. I hope he is on the podium.

I really love his skating also, I would pick him over Daisuke for Sotchi. Takahiko have not experience any olympic to date in his carreer and he really improve this season, he deserve that spot :)

So the question is. Who are they going to send to the Olympics? Takahiko or Daisuke?

Really heartbroken for Oda. He actually placed 3rd in the FS, but was too far behind in the SP. Basically Takahiko's 90+ in the SP is what gave him the edge.

Ok but... 94? 94 means that some judges gave him 9.50, 9.75 for a performance with 4 major mistakes! 94 would be a high score even for a clean program at Nationals for skaters like Takahashi/Chan/Plushenko, receiving it for a messy program while others skated almost clean and received PCS almost 10 points behind is :slink:

What? Vancouver 2010? He and Oda also had their chances before.

I still think that Daisuke is more likely to win any medal than Machida or Kozuka. But if the JSF doesn't send Dai, I understand.

You took the words right out of my mouth. I think they might do a compromise and send Takahashi to Sochi and Kozuka to Saitama for Worlds. That would make sense as Takahashi may still be a medal contender, assuming he's healthier and better trained by February. Kozuka probably won't medal in Sochi anyway- he hasn't been very consistent over the past two seasons and I think that's really hurt his standing with the international judges. Sadly, Oda probably won't get to go to either competition.

There really should be wild card/ at-large spots. The fact that Japan can only send 3 men is ridiculous.

Dai was in tears during the post-LP interview. He had to leave to compose himself before he could answer the reporter. It's so heartbreaking.

I'm fine that the spot goes to Hanyu, Machida and Kozuka.
Sorry to say but Daisuke has not master his quad, 70% times it's underotated or two foots or falls and 30% times it's clean. He is not deserve that spot, maybe he can send him at 4CC and see what he can do but I pretty sure that he will lose to Kozuka an other times.

Kozuka deserve the spot!

Yeah, it's really sad Oda will probably get nothing when he's done just as well as the other guys this season (except for Hanyu) Ideally it would be nice if Oda got to go to Worlds too. But yeah, that probably won't happen.

Still it's nice to see Kozuka comeback after a rough GP.

I think the difficulty is that Dai finished 5th.

They might just do the opposite of what you said & send Dai to the worlds instead.

It was impossible for this to end without sadness, amidst the triumphs.

And I am so sad for Takahashi. The anxiety on his face in the K&C after his SP, and the dejection when the score came up. And now finishing in 5th at his last nationals. His injury came at the worst possible time.

I think Machida fully earned a place alongside Hanyu on the Olympic team. He came out fighting, and looking like a winner right from the beginning of the season - like he disappeared into the mountains for a year, trained with The Master, and came back saying simply "I know kung fu". When he won Skate America, he did not look at all surprised - the look on his face said "I knew that would happen. I MADE it happen". And that is an attitude needed to perform at the Olympics, or indeed to win a place on the Olympic team.

But what of the third place at the Olympics? Do we now know for sure who it will go to? (Who else am I going to feel sad for?)
