I could not agree more. Have you read Dick Button's new book yet? He has great things to say about Yu Na but also he articulates some things many of us on this board have been saying: that Yu Na's artistry as far as passion, heart, and soulfulness go is just not up to the level of a Michelle and that she needs greater toe point, stretch etc and less of a rounded back. He is also somewhat critical of Mao so this isn't about him picking sides in the Yu Na/Mao debate. I was grateful to him for eloquently expressing what many of us feel.

Dick Button will defend Michelle Kwan to the death from anyone who might oppose her as the greatest in his mind. That being said, Michelle Kwan is pretty freaking phenomenal. :)

For more OT, I just want to say that was a phenomenal SP! Everyone brought their A-game. And the scoring differentials was also pretty fair, with Suzuki getting almost the same PCS as Mao (who I thought was a tad tentative, particularly in her jumps). Funny enough, Suzuki would probably legitimately get 70 points for that SP internationally... so on a Nationals level she was arguably "underscored".

Thanks for this! Google Translate tells me that this is Miki Ando's jump layout: 21: Miki Ando (Shin-Yokohama Prince FSC) SP64.87 points

3Lz +3 Lo/3Lo/FSSp/2A +3 T/CCoSp/3Lz/3S/3T/2A +2 Lo +2 Lo / FCCoSp / StSq / ChSq

Isn't she breaking a rule by repeating the 3Lz, 3T and 3Lo without doing a 3A or 3F?

Ooh, she certainly is Zayaking if she did that. I'm assuming she'll be doing 3Z-2L.

I believe she'll keep her jump layout from Golden Spin:

3Lz+2Lo
3Lo
2A+3T
3Lz
3S
3T
2A+2Lo+2Lo

Few years ago she was one of the best japanese Juniors and looked as bossible substitute (in future) of leaders.
What a horror - degradation.
She moved to Colorado to train, and her training didn't go well.
I feel bad about Yuki Nishino who was also one of the contenders, actually beat Miki in Sectionals this season.

The third group started.

12 Ayana Yasuhara 114.51 69.84 3Lo-2T 3S 1Lo 3T fall 1A-2T 3S 1A

I'm always doubtful about Matsuda's domestic scores. Basically all of her triples are cheated and she shouldn't be sent to junior worlds. But Matsuda's "consistency" is incredible. She "landed" ten triples in competitions 6 times in a row, no fall, no popping, no stepout, no overturn!

While the Russian Ladies seem to have no problems regarding their future, for me it looks bleak for Japanese ladies. Mao, Akiko, Kanako and Miki gone after this season. You can see how they are pushing Miyahara right now, but she's all alone. What a bore Nats next year will be.

Is it for certain that Murakami will not continue after this season? I thought she was just trying to garner more Federation support.

I think it will be exciting. The top 12 all went clean in the SP and landed 3-3's minus Mao and that doesn't include Mai Mihara who landed a 3f-3t in the FP. They may not be as impressive or consistent as the Russian juniors, but they all have talent and it will be especially exciting to see who becomes the favorite.

Yes, they at least have MANY ladies, maybe a new star will rise sooner than I think - I just love the current top ladies so much, it just won't ever be that way.

I think Kanako should retire, if she really doesn't want to compete anymore. But with Mao & Co. gone and her just being 19.... I don't know I think she could be World Champion and dominate the Japanese ladies for a while. I think it'll depend on how she fares at Sochi or if she even gets to go.
