I certainly agree with all that Jimmy had to say in his post.

The problems mentioned also apply to males. There was a teacher in my school district who was accussed of sexual impropriaties by two junior high girls. He lost his teaching credential, custody of his son, and spent two years in prison. The girls later came forward and admitted that they had lied, but because their side was taken, their word against his, he lost everything. He was released from prison......but once your reputation is tainted, forget getting another teaching job.....he doesn't know where his son is, and he works now as a gardener..........42

    TV alert

Clay Aiken and Megan Mullaly sp? have done a takeoff on the justin /janet incident and will be hosting Saturday Night Live tomorrow. The promo is funny, with the roles reversed. Tonichelle, I see you are a Clay fan. he is quite funny!

I personally think they both planned exactly what happened and don't equate it with any other situation. Janet's recent records are sexual, and she has never been shy about flaunting her body onstage. They badly miscalculated the reaction this time.

I kinda agree with you. But the question is why ban her? and not him? It could be that he is about to win the Best Album Award at the Grammys, and I believe he has a new album which he is supposed to hype soon. Oh well.....

Janet had made a decision not to soon before the halftime show started that there would be a costume reveal so that tells you right there that it was planned but but hadn't been thought out too long beforehand. I say both Janet and Justin are equally as guilty. Janet is guilty because she shouldn't have been trying to show her nasty bra to the whole world in the first place and Justin is just as guilty for participating. What makes me laugh the most about this whole thing is the phrase "costume malfunction"
    Machines malfunction! Not fabric!

SusanBeth - I don't think what you put was OT. I think you're right.

As for the Justin & Janet thing, I haven't seen it as I don't live in the US, but it seems to me like it's being taken WAY out of proportion. Haven't they apologised for the "exhibition" and said it was unintentional? I've seen a quote from Justin at least that says that. I think banning Janet from the Grammys (especially if Justin's allowed to go) is ridiculous. An accident like that (or something planned but that went too far, whatever) is not the end of the world. It doesn't make Janet a murderer or an evil person. Isn't she meant to just be presenting an award? If she was performing and doing some raunchy number, then I could see them asking her to tone it down, but I don't understand why they banned her from even presenting an award. Seems to me to be completely OTT and unfair.

There is now a class-action lawsuit that has been filed "on behalf of all Americans" who had to suffer through the embarassment of the half-time show. The article goes on to say that millions of viewers had to "suffer outrage, anger, embarrassment and serious injury." Another frivilous lawsuit about to hit the courts.............42

Yes she WAS... but it was to be given to Luther Vandross(sp) an since he was unable to attend the Grammy's due to health concerns they gave her a "there's no reason for you to be here"

personally I think they both need to be banned... I don't think it should be forgiven without consequences...

    Wow, Joe,

You opened the can of worms. I am responding after hearing what happened to that 11 year old girl in Florida. So, she was asking for it because she was outside of her home? And apparently there are some nasty rumors about her family. I didn't hear what, but it was nasty enough to prompt the family to have some friends hold a news conference this afternoon to deny rumors. I feel sad for her family that more hurt is being piled on them. (It is winter folks, it gets dark before dinner time and stays dark until after breakfast. How is it that a child in her own neighborhood is to blame for the slimeball who abducted and murdered her?)

SusanBeth, NO WAY were you over the top. In fact, I think you were right on.

Jimmy and Ptichka show how bad things can get with the intolerant judging others and finding them guilty. Janet and Justin showed extremely bad taste. But what did CBS expect allowing MTV to be in charge of the half-time program??? Especially since Janet is known for provocative lyrics, costumes and "dancing" (sorry, that kind of "dancing" is what you pay to see in a strip joint).

I agree with Joe. If you're going to punish one of that pair, you have to punish both. It takes two to tango and that stunt definitely required both to participate. Maybe they did intend to leave the bra in place. So what? While the Viagra ads probably go over the heads of kids, the beer and alcohol commercials are certainly understood by them. And unfortunately in this age of Britney and Madonna, etc., etc., etc. ad nauseum, kids see all too much sexually suggestive and even explicit material. So sad that kids can't have innocent childhoods anymore.

Just the other day, I saw two little boys (about 5 or 6) trying to open a locked door with a piece of cardboard because it worked on tv. I told them the people doing that on tv are called criminals and doors are locked to keep people out. Just what business did they have trying to get in a door at a church? Maybe I was overreacting to their action, but I get so sick and tired of seeing children ape some of the stuff they see on tv and movies and video games. No one ever seems to point out that what they are doing is inappropriate.

An incoherent rant, but the whole thing just ticks me off. I think it is certainly about time that "live" programs featuring people and acts that are likely to get out of hand should have always been on time delay. But, would it have done any good? Heck no, the "news" reports will show it over and over and over, even if it doesn't get shown "live" because it is cut from a tape delay. The hypocracy of this is mind numbing! (anyone remember the news conference where some schmuck blew his brains out a few years ago? Or the falling bodies from the World Trade Center? Or the latest mass grave uncovered in Iraq, Bosnia, Honduras, etc.?)

I'll go take my medication now! Maybe with some alcohol to take the edge off! (yeah, sure, like alcohol goes sooo well with my blood pressure medications!)

    I feel better now.....

If a man decides to run to the 7-11 at 3 o'clock in the morning to get a pack of cigarettes and some beer and ends up being robbed and killed -- did he bring it on himself for going out late? Did he get his just desserts for drinking and smoking? No. The poor guy was just innocently going to the store.

I don't care if a woman walks down the street naked at 2 in the morning, drunk out of her a**, nobody has a right to lay a hand on her her except a cop who arrests her for indecent exposure, being drunk in public or whatever. PERIOD.

I don't care if a woman went drunk to the house of a guy she just met and then changed her mind about what she wanted to do with him. Since when does going into a hotel room or house with someone give them the right to rape you? It doesn't.

Sorry to hear about the stories from Ptichka and Jimmy Hoffa. But hey, women have only been voting since 1922 and apparently we haven't really come very far. Maybe in another 100 years...

As for Justin & Janet. I wasn't offended and think its being blown out of porportion. The only part I don't like is that they were sneaky about it and didn't do that part in rehearsal.

OF COURSE people have a right, men and women, to do the above things without being molested, hurt, killed, etc. But if you don't exercise some caution or common sense as you go about your daily lives, you can set yourself up for harm or injury by people whose morals and ethics put them outside the law. My husband gets irritated while driving when I caution him that a car is weaving too close to us....he always says, "We've got insurance". Why go through the cost and trouble of calling insurance companies, getting estimates, renting a car, etc. when caution could have avoided a possible fender bender......okay, that's not a great analogy, but I think you get the picture......42
