Not only is there the race for gold and three team spots to Sochi but this probably is the farewell skate of Flatt and Zhang and sadly even with good skates it won't be that happy of an ending. Maybe it could be the last skate for Agnes too. Will gold go for it or play it smart - it will be interesting. There will be quite a bit of pressure on Wagner as she won't know what the big guns have done as she skates early in the final flight. Also people remember these skaters aren't just skating for the Olympics they are skating for team spots on the national team.

Well yes Flatt and Zhang are gone, but you might be surprised who also retires after this.

I will say that the third spot belongs to either Nagasu or Edmunds. Will they destroy Nagasu on URs or will they destroy Edmunds on PCS? That is the question. I particularly enjoyed Nagasu in Japan, though I'm not even sure she got one jump ratified (B*LLSH*T). But come on Edmunds can not skate like Nagasu. Maybe in a couple of years. I want to see Nagasu do a fun and fast Bond routine. She deserves it. I'm Team Nagasu heading into tomorrow. Please get up in the air.....

Seeing Zawadzki in the first group is frankly shocking :eek:

But, it's 21 skaters, doesn anyone know how they will be divided in groups?

By checking the time, I suppose the first group will be from 1 to 4; then from 6-9; 10-15; 16-21. There will be 6 girls in the 3rd and last groups.

Hope Gracie will have more than 10 point lead in the overall standings after the FS, Go Gracie !!!
I think Wagner will have a meltdown in the FS, too much pressure on her will be spooked by Gracie and USFS backing of her

Gracie is the one with the pressure on her. She has yet she show she can seal the deal when she's leading and everything is on the line tonight. Not just a National championship but a spot on the Olympic team. I fear for her if the other skaters ahead of her blow the lid off the place because Gracie might be the one spooked.

I hope the technical caller does not totally overlook Nagasu's URs in the FS, It's not fair to the other skaters if she gets credit for cheated jumps. That 3F-3T she did in practice was so badly underrotated that it will be laughable if the caller gives her credit for it. The caller in Sochi certainly will not.

I actually think the opposite! I think they held Gracie up to boost Gracie's confidence so she will skate well. Ashley has historically done better coming from Behind. The way scores are flying out this competition, the usfsa seems to be very strategic this year in how they are scoring. I think we will safely see Ashley and Gracie on the top three spots. The third one is up for debate. Send a new charming face or give an age old favourite a last chance.

Underrotations in practice aren't penalized, are they? (Of course, they're not. An mistake in practice doesn't always translate into a mistake in competition).

I hope so regarding Gracie and Ashley. And I personally prefer to see Mirai on the Olympic ice than juniorish skating. Edmonds has time.

Skating last is probably not a good draw for Gracie. Ashley has a better draw, in my opinion, skating before the other top skaters. She just needs to lay it down, like she is more than capable of doing.

But tech callers do check how skaters are doing so in practice(planned elements, levels and all) if they see URs frequently, the likelihood is that they will be more scrutiny on those skaters' tech content in the competition.

I agree - Ashley really does better as the underdog. I think she's said in interviews that she likes that position more than being the leader with the target on her back. I wonder how Gracie will cope with the pressure...

I hope Mirai makes it but on the other hand I also wish she would fail and have Ashley-kind-of evolution after the games. That will be all the more magical with a skater like Mirai.

I have absolutely no idea who will be taking that third spot.

No matter how they skate Gold and Wagner will get really high scores in the free skate. With Gold's score form the short program she is now being mentioned for Olympic Gold! And by giving them both high scores in the free there will be talk of 2 ladies medals for the US and that will spark interest and boost the ratings for coverage in the US.

Gold will likely win Nationals, Olympics, and Worlds this year if she's clean. No one can challenge her except maybe Yuna.
