    Google Rainbow Olympics Front Page

As of right now, the Google front page shows a rainbow winter sports image with the following quote below:

"The practice of sport is a human right. Every individual must have the possibility of practicing sport, without discrimination of any kind and in the Olympic spirit, which requires mutual understanding with a spirit of friendship, solidarity and fair play." –Olympic Charter

Well, just to give a heads-up, don't want to start up a thread for this,

65 world leaders to attend Sochi Olympics - The China Post

Chinese President Xi Jinping and U.N. Secretary-General Ban Ki-Moon are among those attending and meeting with President Vladimir Putin.
On Tuesday, IOC President Thomas Bach denounced politicians who used the Sochi Olympics for their own purposes “on the backs of the athletes,” including leaders who publicly snubbed the games without having been invited.

Abe backs Putin with visit; in contrast with Japan's China, Korea ties

For Putin, the appearance of G7 leader Abe at Friday's opening ceremony provides a high-profile seal of approval.
Abe's Sochi trip is "a manifestation that country-to-country relations are moving in a good direction," said former prime minister Yoshiro Mori, who has longstanding ties with Russia and has done much of the legwork for Abe's bilateral diplomacy. Mori told reporters the two sides are trying to arrange for Putin to visit Japan in the autumn.
Sochi Winter Olympics: who is going to the opening ceremony?

Thomas Bach, head of the International Olympic Committee, hit out at foreign leaders boycotting the Games, accusing them of making an "ostentatious gesture" that "costs nothing but makes international headlines".

Bach, speaking in front of Putin and IOC officials from around the world, said: "We are grateful to those who respect the fact that sport can only contribute to the development of peace if it's not used as a stage for political dissent, or for trying to score points in internal or external contexts."

He spoke caustically of those who decided not to attend the Olympics, saying their "contribution to the fight for a good cause consisted of publicly declining invitations they had not even received".

I see Bach is having his head firmly in the sand still. Oh well, it's his job to protect the Olympics' 'brand image' after all.

'Scoring [political] points in internal or external contexts' is all sport is ever used for.

Beijing, now Sochi in this climate (not just the climate of hate and fear but also the sub-tropical very un-wintery climate ). I guess Almaty is going to win the 2022 bid.

Nice quote from the Olympic Charter, though it has nothing to do with LGBT rights - I take that was what you have intended by opening this thread.

    Principle 6 campaign.

'Principle 6 of the Olympic Charter states that “Any form of discrimination with regard to a country or a person on grounds of race, religion, politics, gender or otherwise is incompatible with belonging to the Olympic Movement,” and the IOC has confirmed that this includes sexual orientation.'

But Ziggy, what does discrimination have I do with Russia or its laws? Please spell it out more, so people like BlueBonnet can understand.

Has there ever been a discrimination against LGBT people in sports? Particularly in this time Sochi Olympics? If there has, your campaign will be relevant. Otherwise, it is just a way to draw attention by twisting the meaning of The Olympic Charter, and mess up with a glorious moment of a sovereign state. Russia has met all the requirement of the Olympic Charter, just like what the IOC officials said. Anything more than that is out of the jurisdiction of IOC and The Olympic Charter. So what is all this "principle 6 campaign" about? To against a law that has nothing to do with the Olympic sports and Olympic Charter, and a law that protects children?

I would think specifically warning LGBT athletes not to talk to children without giving the same warning to their heterosexual counterparts would pretty much be defined as "discrimination" even by the brain dead.

Then you have misunderstood the law. Of course they can. Everybody can talk to children.

NO ONE can talk to children about non-traditional sexual stuff and straight pornography for the purpose of inducing and promoting them, neither LGBT people nor straight people. The law forbids straight people to do that too.

Unh huh. And we're all still waiting for you to explain how people like me and Ziggy and CanadianSkaterGuy, who grew up with an unceasing barrage of heterosexual propaganda thrust at us our entire lives, are gay. Or is propaganda simply a one-way street?

As I have said, every single case is different. I do not pretend to have all the answers you want, especially that the scientists in this field have not yet had the answer. From what we have been discussed all through these months, I believe the conclusion should be that the Russian law is a legitimate, reasonable, and ultimately the best approach to protect the future of a country. Just like Putin said in his interview,
do so in modern and humane ways, without offending anyone and without turning anyone into second rate humans.

The law forbids telling children that gay people are normal. Demonstrators have been arrested for a sign that says “Discrimination is incompatible with the Olympic Movement. Principle 6. Olympic Charter”. http://www.independent.co.uk/sport/o...n-9115916.html How is does that constitute talking to children about non-traditional sexual stuff?

To me, that was hooliganism. That was, as I have said, twisting the meaning of this Russian law and the meaning of the Olympic Movement. Please tell me why some people, who say they are normal, ignore all the laws and try to mess up their nation's biggest moment? They have place to protest, haven't they?

Oh you mean the little designated area MILES away from the main venues. Other than that particular cosmetic amenity, they don't. Which is the entire point of the law. It's the legal variation of thinking that ANY talk or any display of LGBT affection or sexuality is "shoving it in someone's face." As if it will all magically disappear if straight people don't see it or hear about it.

Every attempt in history to make LGBT people disappear has failed. Every single one. Read some actual history. It may temporarily drive LGBT culture underground, but all your silence and your attempts at erasure will not make LGBT people disappear. And it won't change the sexuality of any of them, no more than exposure to LGBT culture is going to make someone born straight "turn gay." You can spout all the religious verses and pseudoscientific mumbo jumbo you want, but history will tell you that ultimately it is not going to work. It never has and it never will.

This was peaceful protesting. And it wasn't propaganda aimed at children. Putin specifically said that there would be no prosecution of protestors during the Olympics -- so much for that... or was it because it was before the Opening Ceremonies technically?

They are not messing up their nation's biggest moment. They are trying to bring awareness to an issue while the world is watching such that it gets increased awareness.
