Hahaha, that would be priceless. I hope he tries for the citizenship of whatever country to host the 2022 Olympics.

Does South Korea allow dual-citizenship?

In some situation, but not in this case. Ahn Hyun-soo is no longer a Korean citizen.

Worry not! We've made both curling finals, so guaranteed silvers, if not golds (especially by the women). We also won a gold in bobsled. Women's hockey should yield gold (or silver at worst). Men's hockey is a question mark, lol.

Charles Hamelin was an absolute disaster since winning his 1500m... neither of his falls were due to competitors either... that was all on him. I'm sure Francois feels terrible too. But 1 gold is still awesome!

The Canadian women curling team made Olympic history by becoming the first to get through the round-robin preliminary competitions undefeated. They are in the process of playing Sweden for the Gold/Silver now.

Canada's week of futility continues. No gold medal since Dara Howell won the women's ski slopestyle. I guess the (literal) silver lining is that we have more silver medals than any other country but, well, that's not much of a prize.
Just a temporary lull. Based on the IOC rankings, Canada just leap-frogged into second position from 7th. Still potential Gold in Mens Hockey and Curling. Perhaps speed skating also. At Vancouver, Canada didn't win any Gold until the last half of the Olympics, then accumulated 14.

Host country Russia came through in the end, despite the controversies: they will probably leave Sochi with the most gold medals AND the most total medals, as they will probably get another gold for bobsleigh tomorrow.

Norway could get another medal in cross-country tomorrow. Unless it is gold, they will remain number two on the medal scoreboard. Probably not where they wanted to be considering that they came into these Olympics with high expectations to be on top of the medal scoreboard.

Canada has the potential to get another gold tomorrow in men's hockey, leaving them at number 3 still with a total medal count of 25. A disappointing medal count to be sure after Vancouver 2010, but it's not like Canadians will care if we win gold in hockey tomorrow.:rolleye:

And I don't care what the US thinks, but no matter how much Americans try to fool themselves, they are not number two by the medal count, but number four. If a country has 30 bronzes and another country has 29 golds can you honestly say that the 30 bronzes are worth more than those 29 golds? I don't think so. Anyway, the USA can move up to number 3 if two things happen: they win gold in bobsleigh tomorrow (likely, considering the small gap between bobsleighers number 1-5 now) and Canada gets silver tomorrow in hockey tomorrow (50-50 chance).

Finally, I don't think the Netherlands will get any more medals since there are no more speed skating events. But wow! Did the Dutch really rule the ice these past two weeks!

According to Bobsleigh commentators, every track is different. Host countries tend to have the advantage, since they have more practice time on the course leading up to the Olympics. It is not surprising Russia would do well in this event.

All of the Netherland's Gold came from Speed skating, including some of the other medals. Speed skating has the opportunity for multiple medals. eg. men and women for the various different distances, plus team relay. If your plan is to maximize Gold and medal count, it would make sense to focus on this one event category. Which may have been what the Netherland did.

One short track medal, the rest in speed skating.
Actually, they came up with some complicated mathematical matrix to decide which Dutch skaters would go to the Games, based on not only their results at the special qualifying event, but also their chances at maximizing the medal count. (This resulted in the fact that some skaters who finished high in the rankings at a particular distance event had to stay home, while someone with a lower ranking at another distance would get sent... all because there is a limit to the number of skaters every country is allowed to send.)

The much-talked-about matrix seems to have paid off. *shrug* That said, it isn't so much that they focused on speed skating to maximize the medal count, but that they *already* focused on speed skating, and then focused on how to max the medal count. There is just no point in focusing on alpine sports when you're a country without mountains and little to no snow.

Speed skating must be the national sport of Netherlands. This success is not newly found; the have ruled the speedskating oval for a long, long time.

In Winter Olympics history, the Dutch have won 110 medals. All but 4 of them came in Speedskating. (Three in Ladies figure skaters, including the Gold Medalist in 1964, and a snowboarding gold at one of the Canadian-hosted Games.)
