Once again, I’m going to warn you and apologize for my poor dance notes. It’s just so hard to describe stuff without it taking a whole paragraph. My notes on the first 2 groups, what there is of them, are really sketchy – they’ll be better for the last 3.

Group # 1 - I sort of watched them while I was getting some dinner, but didn’t take any notes
The Chinese though, had a number to Chicago that was lots of fun.
Fang Yang / Chongbo Gao CHN Start # 1

Fun number to Nutcracker – that was mostly ‘Nutrocker’ – they were having a blast & so was the audience

Kristin Fraser / Igor Lukanin AZE Start # 7
Ordinals 1 1 1 1 2 2 3 3 3 Currently FD 2 Overall 1
Music: Love Under the Rain black with silver trim - his pants are very wide at the bottom – bell bottoms
I saw some nice moments in the dance, but the music was very monotonous to my ears and I got bored with it.

Natalie Pechalat / Fabien Bourzat FRA Start # 8
Ordinals 2 2 3 3 4 4 4 46 Currently FD 4 Overall 4
Music: Babalu, Dance of the Soldiers I have to try and describe these costumes – the bodice of her dress is red and the skirt is this weird multi-coloured semie sheer fabric cut with a ragged kerchief hem – sleeves are the same -- the reaction from the people around me was “What is that?????” he’s in a black tshirt with red front and cargo pants with ‘high boots’
He had problems on the very first set of twizzles in the program /

Nora Hoffmann / Attila Elek HUN Start # 9

Music Dance with Me soundtrack Her in purple with one sleeve asymetric illusion around waist skirt is shredded with pink as well as the purple. He’s in black with some pink & purple sequin design on front & pink strings haning off should and one leg. They’re actually better than they sound. I like this team, so will admit my bias right off the top <G>.
great rotational lift with her upside down and one leg wrapped around his neck – something went wrong on the exit and she ended up up with both hand on the ice while he was holding her legs. The music slowed with a female singing and they were in front of the judges and the next thing I know they’re both down sliding across the ice – didn’t see what happened – the groan from the crowd made me look up. Lots of encouraging applause from the crowd once they got going. Music picked up and they’re skating great again . I don’t think she can believe what happened. Poor kids – it really is a great fun dance.

The Matrix both in dark blue/black lame
Music starts out eerie then into drivin beat neat cantilever from both facing each other / O ftwrk is good but seems to be done mainly by her / great rotational lift with her in spits then stag / twizzles matched really nicely / change of edge lift is imaginative (and hard to describe) / lift where she starts out facing down with her legs on either side of his head then somehow into a swan position (it was somewhat pornoraphic looking) / It was a neat dance and they did it well – held your attention all the way through and even though the music could be called somewhat monotonous it didn’t feel that way – I could watch that one again!

Melissa Gregory / Denis Petukhov USA Start # 11
Ordinals 1 1 1 1 1 1 1 2 2 Currently FD 1 Overall 1
Toccata and Fugue; Air her in white with grey him in grey with white both have lots of flowey bits
Twizzles seq match perfectly / music is really fast and they’re flying O ftwrk turns basically all the same way but flows well / rot lift with her holding on around his neck / music changes to air – a very heavy version / balance lift with him in shoot duck / lift with her upside down vertically and him in arabesque / another very similar lift except it has a change of edge / dance spin that has lots of revs – well done but nothing special as far as pos are concerned / strt ftwrk is ok / music is starting to grate on me – very screachy /

Natalia Gudina / Alexei Beletski ISR Start # 12
Ordinals 1 1 2 3 3 3 3 3 3 Currently FD 3 Overall 3
Barber of Sevilla – Rossini her in black bra effect with one sleeve red down the other arm white asymetircal fring skirt – him in white with red sash & black pants
One minute in and they’re having fun with it / the O ftwrk was good / nice rot live that turns very fast Dance spin has them doing arm movement in time with music / twizzles match but turns aren’t very fast / they’re really acting to the music – were now into figaro -- & strt ftwrk and he’s doing most of the work / set up for diag lots of very quick steps for 1st half / That went by really fast – it was fun to watch – no idea how difficult it was, wasn’t really paying attention looking for tech merit / By the way, the arena is fuller right now than it’s been at any point this week

Svetlana Kulikova / Vitali Novikov RUS Start # 13
Ordinals 1 2 2 2 2 2 3 3 3 Currently FD 2 Overall 2
Carmina Burana her in dayglo orange with black him in black with red on front the colours just don’t match !
I don’t know if it’s just me but some of this choreography is really reminding me of Annissina & Peizerat’s / he did a couple leaps sort of over her head / he just fell out of a twizzle (2:50 mark) / lift with her upside down in splits & he goes into a camel pos over her /

Megan Wing / Aaron Lowe CAN Start # 14
Ordinals 1 1 1 1 1 2 2 2 2 Currently FD 1 Overall 1
N Rota soundtracks medley her in dress with red across bust shading to purple to very light grey at hem. Him in light grey shirt, grey pants & ascot
Lift with her sraddling his shoulder and he goes into spread eagle / music has a ‘running’ feel to it and they do their O ftwrk that looks pretty darn good to me / music softens and bets melodic and their twizzles match perfectly / nice change of edge lift and music changes again and gets bouncey and so do they / more twizzles that match / they’re really ‘acting’ the parts of this music – it’s well choreographed the very dancey / they’[re also moving very fast across the ice / That was fun and I thoroughly enjoyed it

Delobel and Schoenfelder are currently in 1st place. Faella and Scali are currently in 4th. I like the latter, I hope they stay in the top ten......
The ISU needs to hurry up with the results, as they're not as detailed as that of Rosaleen's and therefore should take less time to appear!

Tango Selection black leather with red for her and black with red for him
Some indivdual dancing sets the mood / Change of edge lift with him in crouch at 1st then standing up / rot lift with many revs / twizzles were out of sync – think he might have lost it a bit / another rot lift that turns very fast / it really does have a tanog feel / O ftwrk is good but 2nd half has turns all the same way/ lift with her standing on his thigh and one leg straddling his shoulder and he goes to one foot / music softens and they do a dance spin / another low lift that shows off how good a lifting team they are / music changes and another rot lift with her horizontal and him holding her by one arm / Aside from the one error I saw they skated that very well

Clowns (Felini soundtracks) Both in black with silver trim
Start out running towards judges into rot lift with multiple pos and revs right into O ftwrk that turned both ways / twizzles seq matched / lift with her upside down with legs spread (porno looking) / matched dancing in place / another lift with her in upside down 180 split with change of edge by him / music gets lyrical now lift with her over his shoulder and him in low crouch / and a similar lift except he goes into back shoot duck / music speeds up and becomes ‘circusy’ and they strt steps match / another rot lift with her upside down in splits /

Oksana Domnina / Maxim Shabalin RUS Start # 17

Four Seasons Tango her in shade of pink & red with one black sleeve him in black with white
Something looked a bit out in the second set of twizzles / neat rot lift with her horizontal to ice draped around his waist / diag steps are very easy – almost no steps / sorry there aren’t more notes but I didn’t really know what to write – they moved very well with the music and seemed to hit the high points of it /

Isabelle Delobel / Olivier Schoenfelder FRA Start # 18
Ordinals 1 1 1 1 1 2 3 3 3 Currently FD 1 Overall 1
Merlin – Rodriguez Purple on shoulders shading down to white – he has white pants
Unique opening pos – can’t describe it / rot lift with him going into shoot duck / O ftwrk seemed to get a bit slow and she seemed to be doing the work / upside down lift with her verticle / twizzles match well / music is very monotonous to me / sorry, I lost interest part way through /

Federica Faiella / Massimo Scali ITA Start # 19
Ordinals 2 2 4 4 4 4 4 4 4 Currently FD Overall
Argentine Tango / her in black with one sleeve him in black vest & pants white shirt
Rot lift with her over his back switching to front – really looked difficult / lift with him in spread eagle her horizontal to ice / music slows and there’s another change of edge lift similar to last one with him in spread eagle/ really neat lift with her lifting him – crowd loved it / dance spin facing each other / music hardens & become stacatto and they’re into O ftwrk working in close dance hold / and into ending pose and he’s just thrilled so is she but he looks like he’s in tears or very close to it / The crowd is not happy with the marks or the placement!! Loads of whistles

The Bulgarians take top spot!!! Their marks range from 5.7 to 5.9 for technical merit and 5.7 to 6.0 for presentation. Could this be the first ever ice dance gold for Bulgaria??!! We will soon find out.

Can someone explain to me what is so good about the German's dance (seriously!) cause personally I'd have had them in ninth place behind the canadians!

I just didn't see the difficulty there, and the music didn't really work for me....but I'm no ice-dance judge.

I wonder if the judges are scared of being mobbed in their hotel unless the home-teams win, really - I was unhappy about Lindemann too!

*sigh*

Yahoo!!!!!!!

Go Tanya and Roma!!!!

Can't believe the German team's placement. I did not see the actual performance and I am just seeing the scores (not that they mean much this competition). I hope they really outskated G&G and B&A.

It kind of makes you wonder that Germans medaled in 2 events with the WC location being in Germany. These medalists have not been anywhere close to the podium all year. Obviously I know Kati and Rene were injured this year, but even when they were healthy they were just barely pushing the top 5. And yes there is always a dark horse, but c'mon - 2 from the host country???

Also in another thread somebody mentioned that Lambiel put an outstanding LS, but ended up 4th. I don't want to get into yet another conspiracy theory, but yet I wonder...

Yana

Edited: I started writing this before I saw Kateri's post.. I agree 100%.
