What a racist and disgusting thing to say. Like an Asian man wouldn't be capable of showing affection towards the daughter he loves? Some of you people should be ashamed of yourself.

The letter was a blog post, in Korean, translated into English by a fan.

The full letter was posted on Premium Chosun, which is only available to online subscribers of the newspaper Chosun Ilbo, but an abridged version was picked up by the other newspapers. Her father made the trip to Vancouver in 2010 but stayed behind for Sochi and with so many requests for interviews, I suspect this was his way of sharing his feelings w/o having to grant every one of those requests. (He rarely if ever talks to the press.) The letter in Korean isn't as flourished (that's the translation) but the sentiment's there, and I don't know why some people feel the need to attack it but what do I know....

Good question! I haven't thought about this.

I have just felt a little odd when I read it the first time that the tone of the letter, even though very affectionate, sounded too sentimental to be an Asian man's writing. However, I don't know YuNa's father. So I could be wrong.

Wow, stereotyping much? What an incredibly stupid thing to say.

Being what I call a proud and unapologetic racist is what some posters are aiming for. Remember that famous Gold fan boy claiming 'blonde' is what American sweetheart is required.

You don't know what you are talking about. And you don't know Asian culture. So just stop these ignorant over-reacting! What racist?! That was a crazy thing to say!:rolleye:

I meant that Asian men usually much more reserved in the public and their expression of their love to their children and their family are different from western culture. So I said it did not look like a father's writing.

Excuse me? I am Asian. Are you? Who is being ignorant here?

I am Asian.

One who thinks it's OK to generalise Asian men and make blanket statements regarding their personality. In case you weren't aware, Asia is huge and is composed of many, many different cultures, and even then it's completely unreasonable to generalise about any one of them.

Please read my original post again. I have also said, "I do not know YuNa's father personally, so I could be wrong." I have just questioned the truthfulness of the writing and I was correct. It was not YuNa father's writing. Continue overreacting?:rolleye:

Continue feeling it's OK to generalise about Asian people.

But the way you're going about this, her father could talk to you in person and you'd say he wasn't her father.

this is dumb, asian's aren't a monolithic group of people. Maybe you don't have enough exposure to asian people, but they are all different. They don't all act and feel the same way about things. And you speak of "Asian culture" which is a statement in itself of complete ignorance. Why? Because there is no such thing as Asian Culture. There is korean culture, japanese culture, chinese culture.....within the chinese there are different cultures just based on area such as hong kong and mainland, etc. and Trust, they are all vastly different in culture. you can't lump them all together. Go Live in Tokyo for a month, then Live in Hong Kong for a month and you will experience the ultimate culture shock. just as drastic as going from asia to america.

I haven't watched figure skating since 2006 when Sasha Cohen broke my heart. I don't know why I decided to watch these Olympics but I've completely fallen in love with Yuna Kim's skating. Does anyone have video of the press conference held after the free skate?

Wow, so dramatic! Just for the highlighted part, I see there is no reason for me to continue.

Just a little FYI, I had lived in Asia for decades and been to many Countries in Asia and Europe. Now in North America.

I am out of here.

Yea, there is no reason to continue because you realize how stupid and ignorant your comments come off when you make such sweeping generalizations.

Secondly, based on your ignorance, I doubt you are well traveled....either that, or wherever you have been to, you were stuck in the box to not understand cultural differences.

Nice to hear from her father. (finally) I have been wondering about curious absence of Yuna's father since Vancouver.

A fantastic list. I'll throw in her World debut in 2007, the original version of El Tango de Roxanne: http://youtu.be/uTCAsSGgFWc

She was very young, and just started to become well known, and I think she also broke the world record for the first time here.
