Tarasova must have had a huge laugh, now she got a ladies World Champion, and only after a month´s work, LOL.

It's amazing how different skaters find that special connection with different coaches. :) I always thought Shizuka had it in her to be World Champion. Good for her! :)

It looks like Sasha's free skate was put just slightly ahead of Michelle's. But she had a major error - 2 footed landing on a jump, right? plus some other less-than-spectacular spins/skating. Michelle - was she dinged down for the 2l? less triples overall, despite what sounds like from Rosaleen a superior skate in the overall sense? Can anyone comment?

And thanks Rosaleen for the excellent reporting, I don't know how you get it all down on paper (well, computer) & manage to see it too.

German security has often been proved unreliable at sports events. Munich... Monica Seles... It's unacceptable... and worse...
The US let the exact same guy into the Super Bowl

There were four judges putting her ahead of Arakawa, three ahead of Sasha, and two behind Sasha.

Rosaleen, you are great...thank you so much for the reports, you are faster than Ice Calc and better too. Go home and rest now, your fingers must be really tired. :)

Interesting that even with no 3/3, Kwan got four first place ordinals, and SIX 6.0s for presentation. There's a message there: if you want to stay on top, MK, add a 3/3.

Maybe there's a message for Sasha, too: don't let your new coach mess with the work of the choreographer who made Arakawa World Champion in just one month.

Michelle came in 2nd in the free and nearly got 1st. Kwan is still the Kween but I like Arakawa. Kwan will be back.

ITA RealtorGal, on German security issues at sporting events; I've been a HUGE fan of Monica Seles:love: since I was 11 and she was whoopin' everyone like nobody's business, so you can imagine my wrath at that guy not only having stabbed her but not having spent so much as a NIGHT in jail for it:mad::mad::mad:--it majorly stinks that Michelle had to deal with any weirdo-related crap, but bravo to her for handling it like the class act she is, and putting in what sounds like a laudable skate!! However, the technical ante is officially "upped", and these Japanese ladies have been keeping up their part of the bargain, working like crazy on consistently improved artistry, now it's up to Sasha--who fought to the end, I'm so proud of her, and I think this is only the beginning of her new, improved career under Robin Wagner--and Michelle to deliver, as 3/3s, for better or worse, ARE the quads of the ladies' sport...hell, if Miki Ando has anything to say about it, QUADS will soon be the quads of the ladies' sport, but that's another story:laugh:

Artekgwent, Michelle's FS was marked ahead of Sasha's, getting her a bunch of 6.0s above Sasha's 5.9s, despite the 2L.

More on the great people who spoiled us all week, in a new thread just for them...

Sarah:)

Yes, that was the part I never understood--he never paid for his crime. No wonder she never really recovered.:p :(

Thanks, I get it now. I looked at the post wrong. But I see that it does clearly say "2" for the long program in Rosaleen's report. She (Michelle) came close to beating Arakawa - only one judge short, yes? (that old 4/5 split...) Wonder if the random computer had picked other judge's scores if the outcome would have been different...
But, although one can speculate, Michelle's performances in the qualifying & short ultimately had the greatest effect on her outcome.

The online casino? That's weird.

Who knows whether the freak is really representing them or a just a freak who did this out of his own freakishness/malice?

By the way: Tonya Harding had a temporary Golden Palace tattoo when she did that Fox TV celebrity boxing match.

Wow!

Shizuka
Though I don't like her as much as Sasha, she certainly has a refinement about her skating. My favorite of the Japanese skaters. I wonder how much TT contributed to the success.

Sasha
Sure, she was going for the gold but this IS her first World medal. I wonder why they took some of the choreography out but did NOT put the jumps earlier in the program. I mean, originally the jumps were so late because under CoP this gives extra 10% per jump, but why go through with this under ordinals judging if you are changing the program anyway?

Michelle
Showed what makes her great. However, I hope this also showed her what she has to improve for Turin.

Elena S.
:(

Irina
I can certainly see why she was happy. Even though she barely made it into the top 10, she did prove that the Federation did not make a mistake in sending her instead of Basova & Oblasova -- they could not make it into the top 10 at Europeans!

I'm still trying to sort everything out, but I'm happy for all. I'm confused though. From what I understand, Michelle would have been in 2nd after the short without the time deductions. If she hadn't of gone 2 seconds over and got the time deduction, where would she have placed by being 3rd in QR, 2nd in SP and 2nd in LP. Would she have been in 2nd overall?

Big thanks to Rosaleen for the woderful report during the worlds.

I really enjoyed listening to EuroSport.

Huge congrat to Arakawa for her first winning of Worlds. A well deserved winner at a well deserved marks. Happy judgers finally pay respect to her. Also wondering how much TT's connections worked. Don't get me wrong, I always thought she was undermarked since last season, especially at presentation department. See how quickly Judger realize this too after she went to TT, conincident? maybe. lol

Congrats to Sasha's first world medal winning! A huge step forward for her.

Finally, I'm so prod of Michelle. And I can't resist here, seems her 6.0s at Nats were well deserved not over marked at all, with her doubled the last lutz she still got 6 6.0 for presentation from International judges. Wee! She is still the Kween on 'Ice Art Run'. She just fought back like a real champion. Seeing how many things going wrong in her fav at the worlds and knowing how much she went through the whole season, she is still able to concentrate on ice. I'm just so happy she is still out there competing. She has more courage/determination than I could ever imagine. Or maybe I'm getting too old. LOL.

Long live the Kween!!!!!

She would still have been 3rd overall. It would have been something like this

Arakawa
0.4+1.2+1.0 = 3.6
Cohen
0.4+0.6+3.0 = 4.0
Kwan
1.2+1.2+2.0 = 4.6

Kwan still would have been 3rd regardless, because of her poor qualifying performance.

Well, let's see. It would have been:
Michelle: 3*0.4 + 2 *0.6 + 2 = 4.4
Sasha: 1*0.4 + 1*0.6 + 3 = 4
Shizuka: 1*0.4 + 3 *0.6 + 1 = 3.2
So actually, Michelle would have been 3d overall no matter what. (Please correct me of this is wrong)

TVU, I just saw your post after posting mines. Your arithmetic dis wrong on Michelle, and you did not take into account that if Michelle were 2nd, then Shizuka would have been 3d in SP.
