If the diagnosis that has been rumored on the various figure skating boards are true, the most courageous skater was Irina. This wasn't a "forgotten" case of shingles or a bout with the flu. She has dealt with a serious medical condition with dignity and class, not to mention a top 10 finish after essentially not competing at this level for over a year. I wish her good health and a return to the level of challenging all of the top flight skaters for the medals. She deserves nothing less.
Her rivals in the sport deserve nothing less. The sport of figure skating deserves nothing less.
Stay well Irina, and may you and Michelle push each other to new and greater heights in the sport you both love.
