All these threads about music we never want to hear again but what do you actually want people to skate to then???

Someone should skate to music from "The King's Speech" - lovely soundtrack!

I wouldn't mind someone skating to some of the instrumental music from "Brave." One of the juvenile (or intermediate pairs) @ US Nationals did. I'm a sucker for Celtic music!

I LOVED that movie! And yes, a great soundtrack!

Rush is also magnificent (Hans Zimmer wins again!). I've been dying to see a guy do "Top Gun". (Max?) Apollo 13 is also a mega soundtrack and could actually cut very well into a "story" style program. And in spite of the fact that "Let It Go" is probably going to be the most overused song of the next season, Frozen is actually chock-full of gorgeous music.

Several people, including me, put a bunch of "should skate to this" programs on the "music I'm sick of" thread. When I get a chance, I'll mention some of them here. Always a fun topic to contemplate. The choreographers should consult us! We get some pretty good ideas.

Offenbach's "Tales of Hoffman" (& not "Barcarolle"); Gounad's "Faust": old operettas: "The Student Prince", "the Vagabond King", " The Desert Song" etc.

ooh, I like the idea of operettas. Some of them are very lilting. The Student Prince is a favorite of mine.

I wonder whether something from Richard Strauss's opera Der Rosenkavalier would be doable. Lots of waltz rhythms, and of course those lush melodies. One wouldn't have to use any of the vocal sections, because most of them are in orchestral form in the overture and in other spots in the opera.

Also, Humperdinck's Hansel and Gretel has some wonderful music, ranging from jaunty folk-based rhythms to the stirring Dream Pantomime. The overture contains many of the themes.

I loved it when Tanya S. of Germany used Speed for her 97/98 lp. Listening to quite a bit of Vanessa-Mae Today. There is a whole slew of music on her "Violin Player album" Some that has been used, others that have not.
Love Mars Lasar's Mount Olympus that has not been utilized since 97/98 S&Z

I'm sure there shall be more

Jane Olivor's singing. Some of you may say "who's that?" but if you've seen Peggy Fleming or Dorothy Hamill skate to "Some Enchanted Evening" you've heard Jane Olivor sing. She's also Johnny Mathis's duet partner in the song "The Last Time I Felt Like This" from the movie Same Time, Next Year. She has a contralto voice that is beyond. this. world.

Check her out on utube if you get a chance, and look for her versions of Isn't It Romantic?, The Water Is Wide, Ave Maria, La Goualante Pauvre Jean, Colors of the Wind, Annie's Song, Vincent, there's a lot there. She's even covered Race To The End, which is the theme from Chariots of Fire, ironically enough a movie about the Olympics.

I'd also love to see someone skate to selections from Patrick Doyle's Sense and Sensibility soundtrack.

Movies directed by Barbra Streisand have great soundtracks--Prince of Tides, The Mirror Has Two Faces.

I would love to see more Romantic Era works other than the usual being chosen. Brahms would be lovely or Schumann or Mussorgsky, maybe one of Mahler's other symphonies or Dvorak would be fantastic.

The "Lord of the Rings" soundtrack

I have long maintained this needs to be Jason and his costume must be inspired by one of the regal robes Elrond wears and he can do his hair in elvish braids. I think it would make the world a happier place.
