That's where I'm at, too. Even if they do investigate, handout punishments, and re-order medals, I hope all of the same reputable people who spoke out publicly (all of the veteran skaters, commentators, sports journalists, etc) continue to speak about it, and put pressure on them to make changes to the judging system (at the very least, no more anonymity).

I found it ridiculous as well, with all the talk about USA-Russia collusion in Ice Dance and whatnot, that (as far as I know) USFSA is the only federation actively lobbying against anonymous judging... :rolleye:

That USFSA is opposed to anonymous judging does not mean that deal making is beneath them. America is a great country but we are just as crooked in abusing our influence as anyone else.

US Figureskating making deals?:laugh::laugh: Carlo Fassi used to talk about how USFS couldn't lobby worth sh!t and how he had to "do the work" for his students. I highly doubt that has changed.

Dick Button' s opinion this Olympics echoed Fassi' s.

USFSA is too stupid and too busy feuding between its own sections to politic effectively.

And if it could politic effectively, it would swap everything to get a U.S. lady on the Olympic podium.

I don't really care too much about giving Yuna a gold medal. However, I really wish the ISU admits that there was incompetent judging (not just a couple human mistakes) at the Olympics and these people were not able to see a proper level or catch wrong-edge takeoffs and UR. Those incompetent ones should be banned from important competitions in the future, esp. the Olympics.

A gold Medal from judging found to be illegimate would not stand. It doesn't matter if Sotnikova was involved. The gold would be taken back because if an investigation found the bad judging was designed to give sotnikova the gold how would she be able to keep it? It makes no sense to allege massive corruption and find it and have the beneficiary keep the spoil.

This is where you're wrong. Just go back to 2002 and the Elena Berezhnaya and Anton Sikharulidze/Jamie Salé and David Pelletier scandal. There was corruption and the Russians did not have to give back their gold medal. The Canadians were awarded another gold. In this case, i don't think they should do this (as I did not agree back in SLC with the decision to award a second gold). Let's just find out what happened here and let the chips fall where they may.

i doubt ISU will recognize anything related to judging in sochi.. people forget how speedy's reaction?? the guy didn't even care..

as for anonymous judging.. well.. the decision will be decided soon.. it will be interesting to see if ISU will get rid of it..

That's what I have maintained from the get go of this fraud. It isn't just Yuna who is the victim here (though she is certainly the most visible one). The whole judging stunk and I don't want to watch this sport unless something is done to protect every single athlete. Think about athletes with smaller name recognition than Yuna who will never succeed in this sport because these mobs fix the results for other purposes. I mean, imagine your sisters/daughters/nieces were competing.

While I am admittedly a Sot-uber, enough people were satisfied with the decision (all the Russian and US broadcasters at least) that nothing is going to happen. People disagree with outcomes all the time. Yuna hasn't competed often enough to give the competition much opportunity to put two clean skates together to win. In Sochi, two skaters outjumped her and one finished ahead.

A lot of people, including Phil Hersh who is somewhat objective, agreed with the Russians ahead. The Canadians should have been a bit ahead on tech but the Russians were better on presentation.

That wasn't the question, though. The question is what should be done if it is determined that one or more of the of the judges cheated.

2002 was a special case of one judges vote being thrown out creating a tie. This is where people alleging at least two judges involved with the technical controller and a assistant creating fake calls for one skater. No way can an skaters entire score be found to be corruptly inflated and then they keep the medal. This is about removing the title from sotnikova and taking the medal away and giving both to Yuna.

This is not proof. It's opinion based on interpretion of rules.

For the last time, there is no "interpretation" of the rules (except your own mistaken one). 5 different types of turns need to be shown with ALL of the types in both directions and 3 different types of steps need to be shown with ALL of the types in both directions. This is exactly what the ISU teaches to technical specialists and every high-level competitive skating coach and choreographer understands the rule. It has been a mandatory requirement for achieving Level 4 in the step sequence for SEVEN seasons now!!!

Your continual assertion that there is any other definition of the rule is ridiculously uninformed.

Since BoP is the only one of us (at least as far as I'm aware -though there may be others lurking) who has actually been trained by the ISU, I think it is fair to agree with his assertion.

You have to believe that two of the callers at the Olympics were totally corrupt to find sotnikovas steps a level 4. The rules state sotnikovas steps can be level 4. There is no proof or evidense that sotnikovas steps weren't level 4 but were called level 4 regardless.

Hasn't Vanessa Gusmeroli as well? She would disagree with his assertion.

Either corrupt or incompetent. And it only had to be one of them in the case of the step sequence, because each technical panel member looks for different criteria when evaluating that element. What is your point to begin with? You act as if this is impossible or even unlikely.

The rules state sotnikovas steps can be level 4.

No they don't. Why do you continue to talk about something you have absolutely no clue about? You can keep saying 3 + 3 = 5 for as long as you want, but everyone knows it doesn't. You are acting like an insane madman.

There is no proof or evidense that sotnikovas steps weren't level 4 but were called level 4 regardless.

Yes there is. It's right in front of your face. This is beyond sad.

Have you spoken with Vanessa? I'm quite sure you haven't. Furthermore, none of us at the moment knows exactly what each technical panel member did.
