It is certainly not unusual for a President to commiserate with his Olympian athletes. It does seem unusual for a President to actually be seated at a competition, and then also be seated next to the President of said competition's governing body. Particularly with figure skating, which is inherently an international sport.
Sasha: Are you going to stay around for the competition?
Bush: No young lady, I have a war to take care of.
lol dear lord. thank go Bush is gone.

I don't think it is out of place. President Putin was the host of the event. Mr. Cinquanta was a visiting dignitary. Why wouldn't Putin do Cinquanta the courtesy of inviting him to watch the competition with him?

Cinquanta is not a dignitary. He is not a diplomat or official in a government. He runs a sporting organisation in which multiple countries compete. Not the same thing at all.

Well Putin paid $50 billion to host. He just wanted to make sure he got his money's worth. ;)

Um...which sport at the Olympics is not "inherently international"? Idk what that even means.

The U.S. presidents chose to attend other sporting events/had more pressing issues to attend to.

It means that figure skatings popularity hinges on international competition. There is no New England Gracie golds or whatever. Gracie represents America whether she is competing at nationals or worlds. Ottavio's oversight extends across national lines. If Donald Sterling does something racist for instance, French basketball fans are not going to object.

So it would be OK for Putin to sit with the head of the international hockey group because some countries have leagues? Why does this matter? Oh wait, it means because Putin secretly paid off Cinquenta, because when you secretly pay someone off the thing to do is sit with them at an event with all the world to see :rolleye:

At cricket Test matches in Australia you will often find the Prime Minister (or a former Prime Minister) sitting next to the head of Cricket Australia. It doesn't mean the Test is rigged for Australia to win (alas, too many umpires now seem to be trying to find ways for Australia NOT to win...).

A former Prime Minister of Australia was up for the President of the International Cricket Committee. Do you think that this automatically means he was trying to rig games for Australia?

No it would not be "ok," because it is still a matter of national bias at an event about international solidarity. Yes it would not look as bad, because if Putin has interest in the Russian hockey federation or whatever which has completely different teams, there is no common interest.

In arguing the appearance of corruption. A former prime minister switching professions is a totally different scenario.

And the current Prime Minister sitting next to important figures in the cricket community?

If that prime minister has endorsed millions towards the cricket field where the event is taking place? Sure, absolutely.

So are you alleging this is evidence of cheating, or just finding something to complain about because you didn't like the outcome?

It makes the sport and Ottavio look bad when he's sitting next to the Russian President in the same competition where a Russian skater controversially wins OGM, yes.

Oh I'm sorry, I wasn't aware that Ottavio, as horrid as he is, was a mind-reader and supposed to realise that Adelina was going to win before the competition even ended!!!!! :rolleye:

It happens in every sport. GET OVER IT YUNAFANS.

He should hold the image of the sport with high enough regard that he wouldn't sit with the President of a hosting nation. Again, figure skating is a competition totally based on international competitors. It is a notorious for the way politics among nations shape its outcomes. Russia, and the US being the dominant players---he should certainly not associate with either world leaders. It injects him into the international politics we absolutely do not want tainting the sport. He has absolutely no reason to.

Look at Yuna's face after Sochi free skate. Very disappointed. Now look at Adelina's. See? We don't even need scores to tell us who won.
