If you don't know it, then you shouldn't make assumptions.

I agree! Chuck and others are always like Estonia means Russia judge 2 but based on what? Why is it so common to say Estonia means Russia judge 2?

As I have said before, if there is pressure on Kovtun going into this event, it is his own fault. If he'd just done his job LAST year, he might have clawed back two spots, he'd have gone to the Olympics, and there wouldn't be a problem.

Volk, do you really like to choose the most negative things you find about Plushenko.

Why is of interest what his wife, cousins, ex-wife, mother , friends , etc says, if they are not FS specialists?

Well, it's been published. It's not like the OP recorded her chatting at home.
Maybe the question should be put on Plushenko's wife, or the journalist of this article for that matter. Why do they think the world it's interested to know her opinion if she's not an FS specialist?

You'd have to ask the journalist who asked her.

I'm not interested in their opinion tbh. but I was replying to aschiutza. As I said: "Maybe the question should be put on Plushenko's wife, or the journalist of this article for that matter".

Well I'm in the camp that says - it's only her opinion and how should that carry any weight over anybody else with an opinion!!! Being married to Plush doesn't mean she's a figure skating expert!!!

If i am not mistaken, that was a twitter from Yana, not an interview. A twitter like hundert and millions twitters of persons who twitters about millions of thng about they are not specialists. So, how it does make relevant and important?

That is what I feel. She is trying to justify Russia's choice of Plushy for Sochi.

Exactly. If Kovtun doesn't medal, supposedly that would almost justify Plushenko pulling out of Sochi, and justify Plushenko selected over Kovtun in Sochi.

What a silly thing to say, although I doubt Kovtun actually cares about anything she has to say.

Although I'm guessing the ubers will say she was taken out of context or it's lost in translation. :sarcasm:

Plus Yana is right.

How is she right? Does she even know the field? Yuzuru and Fernandez are in the field, so that's likely 2 medals locked up. And then there's Machida who should have been ahead of Plushenko in Sochi, in the team event and will likely skate well. Kozuka could also skate well. Ten would have been a question mark of consistency, Joubert/Amodio likely wouldn't have been medal threats, and Takahashi isn't technically sound, so Chan is really the only definitive medal favourite who pulled out.

Saying he essentially has to be the best skater other than Hanyu and Fernandez is undue pressure. This is only his 2nd season as a senior after all and not many men under CoP have been able to make that climb in just 2 appearances at Worlds (skaters like Hanyu being a rare first-time medalist).

About the Estonian judge, it has nothing to do with the foreign policy of national governments but rather with the history of figure skating in countries that were once part of the Soviet Union. Many of the coaches, officials, judges, etc., throughout the Union were in fact Russians. After the breakup in 1988 this continued to be the case. Countries like Estonia might not even have had a qualified ISU judge who was Estonian and not Russian. Same with Israel -- almost all of the Israelis who were involved in figure skating were Russian immigrants.

Over the years more homegrown folks were able to come up through the ranks. It is hard to guess how much influence Russia and Russians maintain in the national federations of these countries any more.

DEAR CSG! I waited for you. :) I knew you will say something like this.... Do you remember? also volk  started this thread http://www.goldenskate.com/forum/sh...d-ve-finished-any-higher-than-6th-at-Olympics Evgeni Plushenko: I don't think Kovtun would' ve finished any higher than 6th at Olympics.
your post (33rd ):
People are ridiculous and wrong, including Plushenko. Kovtun performing at his best could easily claim bronze.

Denis Ten scored 255.10 for bronze. Kovtun's personal bests are 92.53 and 164.32 (both achieved this season) which totals 256.85.

(Not to mention that personal best FS was at the GPF where he still had errors, including no 3-jump combo and many level 3's). On top of that, with the obvious pro-Russian judging in Sochi, Kovtun's PCS for strong skates would have been monstrously higher, meaning he could have easily cracked 260 if he skated an SP like at CoR and a FS like at the GPF."

So what is your problem with Yana's tweet? You also thought that some days ago...And Plushenko also was right..Don't you think? Five great skaters won't be in WCH . Plushy said Kovtun would have been 6th in Sochi....

I really feel sorry for you ... your favorite is probably never going to be Olympic champion. Plushenko is double Olympic gold medalist .. Poor CSG! I understand your anger .. Plus the people love and admire Plushenko .. Take the time and read a few pages https://www.facebook.com/Plushenko?fref=ts scroll down! sea of messages from USA... https://twitter.com/search?src=typd&q=plushenko and also on Twitter

Oh plushy.... there's a difference between me defending Kovtun saying he *could* have earned bronze (when Plushenko said something as foul as Kovtun couldn't have done better than 6th).... and Yana saying that Kovtun HAS to be in the top 3 which is a blind expectation considering Kovtun is only in his 2nd Worlds and considering the top 2 medals are essentially locked up by Hanyu and Fernandez if they're even remotely on. I picture Kovtun as a sort of Kostner... if all the stars align, and Kovtun skates lights out or close to it, a medal is certainly possible, but an expectation? No way.

It's hilarious... Plushenko disses Kovtun saying he couldn't have done well (maybe to make himself feel better about quitting the individual event, once he realised the backlash that came with it, hence crazy things like publicizing his surgery)... and then Yana says Kovtun has to be in the top 3... it's lowered expectations of Kovtun and excessively high expectations of Kovtun, back-to-back. I have no idea where this couple's head's at, but yes I agree with the person who said they were totally made for each other. :rolleye: I predict this won't be the last of the incendiary/disparaging comments directed towards Kovtun from Plushenko/Yana -- just wait for it ... if Kovtun medals then he was simply meeting expectations... if Kovtun doesn't medal then he'll get flamed by Plu/Yana for not managing to do so even with the withdrawals.

Yana could have phrased herself much differently. She could have said with the Worlds withdrawals, it is a good opportunity for Kovtun to place well and get his first World medal and she's rooting for him. But that's probably not what the Mishin camp/Plushenko told her to tweet. :sarcasm: Maybe they wanted Plushenko to lay low and use her make all the jabs.

Also, many of my favourites have been Olympic champion, including Kulik, Yagudin (poor Plushy!), and Hanyu.
